But even Votann and Tau wouldn't be able to check Tyranids (they both care to much about their people in the short term to burn out systems for a fire wall and are to small to effectively counter Tyranid incursion (same with Eldar, Drukarhi may have issues with less appropriate victims). So I guess the question is what happens first. Tyranids eat everything and are populous enough (or decide to attack sleeping tomb worlds). Necrons wake-up in enough numbers to take the galaxy. You have to remember that the Alpha legion’s original goals and motives got lost in time because unlike the other traitor marines - they didn’t flee to the warp where time gets weird - they actually stayed in realspace for 10.000 years. Now all they know is they’re enemies of the Imperium.
This story becomes really weird when you consider the scene in one story where The Emperor and Malcador play what is essentially Chess with certain pieces representing Primarchs/Legions in their early stages, before sides were fully established. They took turns representing both the Loyalists and Traitor factions. In almost every case, whichever side that had and lost The Alpha Legion/Alpharius Omegon would lose outright. It's part of the reason we don't fully know if the Alpha Legion is traitor or not.

Legion, the 7th book in the Horus Heresy book series, is one of my favorites of the whole series it easily has some of the best characters in the whole HH series like Hurtado Bronzi, John Grammaticus, and Dinas Chayne. It's an incredible read.

While you’re partially correct, humanities know for their ability to overcome great adversity by evolving and becoming better than we we were before when the odds are stacked against us and we’re backed into the corner. So essentially the Horus route wouldn’t allow us to evolve. Whatever semblance of humanity remained if Horus had won. Even if he truly did somehow banish the chaos corrupting him on a fundamental levels. It would eventually result in the same thing happening over and over again. Why? “Those who do not heed history are inevitably doomed to repeat it.” So the emperor by and large is the best possible chance still.
Basically yes, Horus would go insane with guilt and become so disgusted with everyone that sided with him that he would kill them all, either way humanity falls, its just a question of do you want long slow death that makes chaos stronger or a quick death that deprives chaos of their victory.

Ironically enough, John Grammaticus would agree with you. Half way through the Heresy he regretted his roll with the cabal and spent the entire rest second half of the Heresy trying to fix it. Turns out to be fairly crucial/impactful by the end of Siege of Terra series.
When they were going against the white scars they were very confusing with their approach, the white scars did not know what to think of the fleet, they didn't know about who were traitors who were loyal, but the way Alpha approached them, with no vox communication, except one thing they said but I forgot what it was, it was all confusing, they got avoided by the white scars who started their run for terra.
I think the point was that they would choose both. One Primarch would remain loyal while the other falls to chaos, thereby potentially finding a middle ground between both possibilities.
Aren't the chaos gods like ... Manifestations of emotions, thoughts, and experience? Like humans didn't blood make them. They began to form way back with the war on heaven. Humans going extinct wouldn't kill them. Just make them weaker till another species took over.
Yeah but then the Eldar saw the fall of Slanesh as being tied to their own extinction too, only to see latter it was possible to return the species from the dead trough their old forgotten gods. Farseers have a lot more experience with visions of the future, and all of them are just utter extinction unless you allow chaos to almost win. Im 100% sure those warp visions are controlled by tzeench to mentally fuck over the species of the galaxy, as the novels show farseers need to sift trough these futures, but in pratice all that they are doing is exchanging more obvious manipulations with less obvious ones.

They joined both sides. Alpharius changed name to Omegon and joined the loyalists, Omegon changed name to Alpharius and went full chaos, but was killed by Dorn, so his group of Alpha Legion is actual chaos worshippers
In other words, Tzeentch had fooled the Cabal and the Alpha Legion into facilitating the current stalemate protecting the chaos gods from external and internal destruction.
Like anything to do with Chaos, this is spectacularly stupid. Is it probably why over a third at least of the heretical legions don’t really want to be there anymore.
But they didn't completely side with Horus. Alpha Legion was split entirely down the middle. With one twin on Horus side, the other on the emperor's side. We don't know which twin sided were cause fucking Alpha Legion bull shittery, so much so that even their own sons, the Alpha Legion themselves did know one way from the other.. The authors of the time did such a good job of really getting them to turn the entire situation in so many directions its confusing. The Alpha Legion Primarch that is still surviving to this is the only one to not have died, put to sleep, or go into the warp(possibly on that last one, we don't have any current lore on them other than he may or may not have been watching over a major person in Imperium Nihilus. My source was the Amber King, specifically his video on the Alpha Legion themselves.

Ya know... for some reason when its laid out like this, the Cabal was very clearly just lying through their collective teeth... it feels like they *knew* the emperor was constructing a way for humanity to access the webway, thus ensuring near instantaneous communication and traversal of the galaxy, meaning humanity would have to be beyond the level of incompetent even GW cant fathom. I love the alpha legion but from the start of their existence they wrote themselves into a corner with them
When they were going against the white scars they were very confusing with their approach, the white scars did not know what to think of the fleet, they didn't know about who were traitors who were loyal, but the way Alpha approached them, with no vox communication, except one thing they said but I forgot what it was, it was all confusing, they got avoided by the white scars who started their run for terra.
I think the point was that they would choose both. One Primarch would remain loyal while the other falls to chaos, thereby potentially finding a middle ground between both possibilities.

Aren't the chaos gods like ... Manifestations of emotions, thoughts, and experience? Like humans didn't blood make them. They began to form way back with the war on heaven. Humans going extinct wouldn't kill them. Just make them weaker till another species took over.
Yeah but then the Eldar saw the fall of Slanesh as being tied to their own extinction too, only to see latter it was possible to return the species from the dead trough their old forgotten gods.
Farseers have a lot more experience with visions of the future, and all of them are just utter extinction unless you allow chaos to almost win.
Im 100% sure those warp visions are controlled by tzeench to mentally fuck over the species of the galaxy, as the novels show farseers need to sift trough these futures, but in pratice all that they are doing is exchanging more obvious manipulations with less obvious ones.
But did they? Seriously, the only reason the Alpha legion can have ANY POINT in the 40K universe is if they are secretly loyal, the Severus Snape of 40K. If they are just another traitor legion, their whole story arc has no point what so ever.

They joined both sides. Alpharius changed name to Omegon and joined the loyalists, Omegon changed name to Alpharius and went full chaos, but was killed by Dorn, so his group of Alpha Legion is actual chaos worshippers
In other words, Tzeentch had fooled the Cabal and the Alpha Legion into facilitating the current stalemate protecting the chaos gods from external and internal destruction.

The biggest mystery in the lore that could have been a whole hell of a lot better than what they got.
But they didn't completely side with Horus. Alpha Legion was split entirely down the middle. With one twin on Horus side, the other on the emperor's side. We don't know which twin sided were cause fucking Alpha Legion bull shittery, so much so that even their own sons, the Alpha Legion themselves did know one way from the other.. The authors of the time did such a good job of really getting them to turn the entire situation in so many directions its confusing. The Alpha Legion Primarch that is still surviving to this is the only one to not have died, put to sleep, or go into the warp(possibly on that last one, we don't have any current lore on them other than he may or may not have been watching over a major person in Imperium Nihilus. My source was the Amber King, specifically his video on the Alpha Legion themselves.
So horus can defeat chaos, but the emperor can't... Makes perfect sense...

Yeah it doesn't really check out since by that point Horus had drank so deep of the Chaos Kool-Aid that probably wouldn't have even been capable of feeling guilt. It's also assuming that the war would end with the Emperor's death and that the Chaos gods wouldn't just keep the mess going for their own entertainment. Honestly this is one of a lot of things that make me think Grammaticus is an agent of Tzeentch.
