Post-Apocalypse or Prince Rupert?

- Hey everyone, I've been sick. Rather than perfect this video, I thought I'd just get it out there, as I am trying to catch up on my backlog of footage. Anyways, this is the road to Haida Gwaii. From Prince George to Prince Rupert and then onto the ferry!
As a disclaimer, Prince Rupert is a charming place. It is the wettest city in Canada, and as a result, there is moss growing EVERYWHERE! The amount of moss growing on everything reminded me of a popular post-apocalyptic video game that I will not mention. Do you know which game I'm talking about?
Be sure to watch the ending for a sneak peak of my adventures on Haida Gwaii.
Thank you, Kira and The Survival Pod Patrons! I'll put your names on the credits of the next one, I promise!

Given your recent life trauma's it's great to see a healthy smile back on your face. Merry Christmas from Melbourne Australia.
It has been so healing traveling around BC. Thank you so much. I appreciate that! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ❤️
Wow, well done. Very much enjoyed. It's been 12 years since I visited Haida Gwaii, and it's had a hold on me all that time. I look forward to your coming videos, all in good time. Peace and healing to you.
Haida Gwaii has certainly stuck with me. I eventually had to leave to go back home to see how Dad's recovery was progressing. But I feel a huge push to go back there someday and see the rest of the archipelago. Especially Gwaii Haanas and the backcountry (accessible by the back roads) on Graham and Moresby islands. I need a 4x4 and some kayak skills 😅
Wow! Prince Rupert is my home, it's so exciting to see someone passing through and documenting it! I know we look, very rough around the edges. But our city counsel has been working hard to rebuild and revitalize our small community. I also feel we hide in the beauty of Mother nature why we don't see a lot of our derilect buildings haha
It was such a good experience exploring a place I knew nothing about. The downside of that
is walking into a place completely ignorant. I hope I didn't offend! I love that the locals are watching this - I keep hearing that you guys have a really good community. And I can easily understand that the main attractions of Prince Rupert actually lay in Nature. There's a lot of great little historical tidbits to learn about as well. I hope I can come back sometime and share some coffee and chats with you locals, because you all seem really cool!
@KiraandtheSurvivalPod non taken at all! Glad you enjoyed your visit

Happy New Year! Hope 2023 treats you well!! ❤️
Another fantastic journey, thank you for taking us along!
I used to live in the Lower Mainland, so I do recognize the moss, moldy concrete, rotting wood look of the West Coast.
I hope you feel better soon, and wherever you are I hope you are keeping warm. It's been around -32C in Calgary the last few. nights
I wish you a Merry Christmas and look forward to your next instalment!
Thanks for watching again lemon herb. Merry Christmas and HAPPY 2023!!!

You look so relaxed, I can see such a difference since your dads close call. You needed this, it’s obvious!
It’s to bad videos will never capture the size and true beauty of BC, it’s really a magical place!
Love this and love to see you thriving on this trip, a good life lesson moving forward, says the old man from Ontario :)

Thanks again, Rick! Yes, I definitely needed this trip. It was such a healing journey! Have a great start to your 2023. Happy New Year!!! Take care 😊
So nice to see the steady vids coming out again. Have fun here in Beautiful B.C. :)
Indeed, it is beautiful. Thanks for watching ❤️

One of your best vids. Thanks.

Merry Christmas from Saskatchewan. Keep the videos coming.
Merry Christmas! I just posted another one ;)
Each episode is a treat and a gift... thank you for sharing your vanlife and making these fantastic videos. To be quite honest, I'd rather watch one of your episodes every 3 months than a Foresty Forest video every week that's exactly the same as the one before it. Love FF (and first saw your channel when you were in one of his videos a couple years ago) but it does get stale. I also think your vanlife is infinitely more interesting because you do have real life work that you juggle with the vanlife. Great job!
Foresty Forest definitely has some major van-living skills. He's definitely unique in that sense.
I appreciate your words about my videos. I'm just so glad there are people out there who actually want to watch them. It blows my mind! Thanks for sticking around and being one of the OG's (original gangsters). Much love and Have a Happy New Year!!! ❤️🙏
excellent video! Merry Christmas Kira!!!!!
Merry Christmas!!!
Your video gets really better through the end, please keep making videos Kira, you have the talent. I'm going to be watching more since Foresty decided to go for a break for now.
I'm definitely going to try and make more videos and trying to improve as I make more. Thanks for your encouragement. Making these brings me a lot of joy. Thank you 🙏
Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Thank YOU 4 BEING YOU💯& for sharing yourself so eloquently 💯🙏❤You are a TRUE INSPIRATION !

So Beautiful and wet up there, Merry Christmas from CA.
Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and I wish you the best in the new year!
2:20 Truth! Best sound 😴
Wait, I know you!!! 😂😂
Welcome back!!
Travel is good for the soul IMHO....then again as a pilot my life is travel (smaller stuff, usually smaller communities, hauling cargo, supporting some of the same company types you seem to work for). Looks like you are having fun, and by avoiding the typical tourist trap stuff!! Hopefully you will find relaxation and knowledge as opposed to the masses that need a vacation after travel!!
Sometimes just getting to absorb the vibes of a new area can be healing in an odd kinda way... enjoy!
Your job sounds amazing. I bet you've seen a lot of really interesting stuff. Now THAT would make a great UA-cam channel!!! Yes, going to new places always puts my mind at ease as well as puts everything into perspective. And even thinking back to the memories of traveling is soothing. Anyways, have a wonderful start to your year 2023!!! Take care :)
The thing about Rupert is people get stuck out here lmao. A lot move here for work in different industries. If it doesn't work out, it can be an expensive move back out of here. Enjoyed your video!
Very interesting and fun to watch. Thanks!
I'm so happy you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I'm heading (back) up to this area next summer, but will be going the other direction (on my way back from Tuktoyaktuk). Haven't been past Jasper yet. Looking forward to exploring farther north.
Omg Tuktoyuktuk is going to be amazing!!!! Can't wait to hear an update about that trip when you do it!!! ❤️

Happy HOLIDAYS & Best of Luck Kira🍀✊🏽💞🙏
Happy Holidays. Hope you're having an amazing start to 2023!!! Take care 😊
very nice video, the drive between Terrace and Prince Rupert is one i'll always love. Our City has put a lot of money into the water front areas, due to the increasing amount of Cruise Ships coming in each year, sadly they haven't done much with the core down town area, many of our buildings remain boarded up and run down. The people that own them don't want to fix them up, and the ones worth renting out to business' often don't get used. A lot of places do look post apocalyptic like you said lmao, either way, glad you made the trip, got to see our little city tucked away on the coast and even got to see the islands, I haven't been to Haida Gwaii in years.
Agreed. Once you pass Terrace, everything starts to look like it's out of the movie Avatar. It's so beautiful. I couldn't believe it.
Even though the town of Prince Rupert is a bit outdated, it doesn't matter because the surrounding nature is what really makes it count. I heard the community is very good as well. I loved it :)
Coolest adventure yet
Haha it has definitely been a fun one! 😉
That's so nice. I want to live there again! Hello from Ontario
Great Video! KInda makes me want to get on the road again.
I support this! Haha. Hope you're able to get out there sometime soon!
It is so nice to see you smile and be hapoy again! I guess the apocalypse can do that… lol 😂 great video, love from texas! 👍🏼🤓😍
Haha yes, I mean moss-covered everything seems to induce a bit of magic and happiness ☺️ Thanks for watching ❤️
Stay and drive safe out there under the current Arctic Outflow! Hope all works well with you, Kira~ ❤
Man, that was an intense storm that swept through everywhere, wasn't it?!?! Glad we made it through ❤️ Happy New Year!
Prince Rupert: Gateway to Haida Gwaii, and The North Coast, and Alaska!
Mushroom people you say. I hear they are fungis! Oh so bad, I know. I hope you are in warm B.C. -40s here in Sask. and I imagine not a lot better in Calgay. I loved the video and can't wait for the next one.
Birrrrr stay warm out there!!!
THAT WAS TOO CLOSE TO MY HOUSE OMG THAT SCARED ME
It scared you? 😅
Thanks for sharing your video
July 6 2024 we will drive from Calgary Alberta to Prince Rupert BC let see what we can find on the way 😊
I'm so happy for you! I already miss it so much out there. Would love to go again. Hope you have a wonderful time. Will you be sharing your travels on UA-cam?
wonderful video.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.
You organized as you go at first it's a mess but then you find little spots for everything
This is true. Cool that you noticed!
Belle adventure!
❤️🙏
Rain helps me sleep in bed. It is exponentially more effective while inside a car or van. I'll sleep 10hrs like it was nothing.
Agreed! No better place (except maybe for a tent) when it's raining :)
Hope you’re staying warm.
The old school pacific western used to fly over that range
Very very cool!
Fab edit Kira. I am officially the saver of allll the starfish here along many a
shoreline by the Salish Sea, haha. I was saying "save the starfish Kira" ...
uhhhm through the monitor, haha.
Haha. It was the first starfish I'd ever seen in real life and I didn't know what to do with it. I tried throwing it back into the ocean but it only washed up onto shore again. I wish I knew where it wanted to be... I don't know anything about starfish in an incoming tide LOL
You should record the sound of rain on your van the whole time you sleep. I could sleep to a video like that.
Great idea. I'd like to do more relaxation-type videos :)
Hi ya nice drive,Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🤩🤩🎄🎄🥳🥳
Thank you Barry. I hope you have an amazing start to your New Year. I wish you the best in 2023!!
omg i literally got boost bumps at the end
Eeee! That makes me so happy. Thank you!!!
Very nice video
Thank you so much 🙏
Ah home sweet home yes its falling apart only getting worse to but around its nice ...if ya dont mind rain and sketchy people
I would say Prince Rupert has character. I didn't see any sketchy people but I didn't stick around long enough to really know.
Your video tittle got my attention 😂…. Wish you had shown more about the town
Some spooky places on your own...take care...but be free !! Enjoy....
Turned out to be not spooky at all. Being surrounded by such beautiful nature. What more could a woman ask for? ❤️
Another wonderful video, you should consider being a cinematographer beyond your UA-cam content. Merry Christmas from Saskatchewan.
Your comment makes me so happy I could kiss you 🤣 Being a cinematographer would be a dream!
If you want to try it, just go for it, Time flies by faster the older you get, trust me. I’ve always regretted not going after my dream career options, to this day. You must have some references and insider knowledge based on your current work industry. Murray
2:55 one of my dearest friends lives in Vanderhoof, and my ex-SIL lives in Prince George.
*WHEN* you come back to the coast... You have to come to my Island.. Some of the best surfing is along the west coast of Vancouver Island. Some of the most beautiful scenery is on the east side of Vancouver Island.. I am on the East side. You will be welcomed in my home any time.
I loved stopping in Vanderhoof. It was so cute! Oh yes, I have surfed on the island before and had so much fun. The waves were perfect for learning. I can't wait to come back. Thank you ❤️
Absolutely amazing! I've been to Rupert a few times and it grows on me every time I visit. Hadn't seen it from the ferry yet but looks amazing. Where did you ferry too? Bella Bella?
I took the ferry to Skidegate. Have you been?? I love hearing that so many people have actually been to Prince Rupert. So far from my hometown of Calgary - it was truly an adventure!
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod I've been to every corner of mainland BC but never to Haida Gwaii. I tried to make it on the ferry from Bella Bella (just outside Bella Coola) to Haida Gwaii but my schedule just didn't fit the ferry schedule. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing part of our world. Makes me want to visit there even more now!
Prince Rupert looked to be very photogenic--some lovely views (nary a mushroom person in sight).
It was indeed a beautiful place. The buildings might have been a bit outdated but what mattered was the incredible scenery in every corner of Prince Rupert ❤️👌
did you take the ferry to vancouver island? i love the island
I thought about taking a ferry down to Vancouver Island from Haida Gwaii. It would have been epic. However, I have taken a ferry from the #1 trans Canada highway to the island and drove to Tofino for some surfing. I love it so much there. I really need to go back :)
Was the shipwreck shot the one from the queen Charlotte islands?
Yes, it's called the Pesuta!
ummm what was the quick shot of a white van inspecting trees close up?
The van that was also sleeping at the same rest stop?
Do they load and unload on the same end or are there drop ramps on both ends?
Canada is a dream.
Where are you from?
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod Born and raised in southern Germany, roots in Croatia.
You have a way reaching out to nature.
It definitely has an affect on me ☺️
You got lucky having some sun haha
I was thinking that when I was editing the video. Isn't it the rainiest place in Canada? 👌
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod pretty close, I think Prince Rupert has the most rain-days. There’s a place by Port Alberni that sees the most rainfall per year for North America.
I’ve been in Prince Rupert for about 38 years now. Rupert did look a lot better years ago. It’s the people that keep you here! Come back again!
I'm shy when it comes to making new friends. Next time I'm there, maybe we could so some kind of gathering! I'd love to meet and chat with some locals 😁
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod that sounds great! You may never want to leave! Lol
❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️ Back to you! 😉
Hey, Kira. Are you going to be doing any van upgrades now that you're off work and your father is recovering?
There are no plans for upgrades now. I'd really really like to install my solar panels in the summertime, though!
Trust me, if you spent time in Rupert there is a good chance you would not leave. It's a unique community.
I'd really love to meet some of the locals. Next time I'm there maybe we can arrange to go for coffee or something!
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod I would love to show you around Rupert but unfortunately I live in Ontario:( . I grew up in Rupert and still consider it my hometown. I go back occasionally as I still have friends and family there...just came across your channel and will follow your travels...Merry Christmas!

Haha. That's a cruise ship. I don't think I got a shot of the ferry as it was pulling up so I made a compromise 😂

Mucho love! ❤️
Do you ski, Kira?
Mostly cross-country!
Hey. If your front glass is cracked you should get it replaced asap. It’s under immense amount of pressure and can shatter at any moment ie. when your driving on a highway.
Usually our windshields get cracked so much that we end up leaving it if it doesn't obstruct our view. Interestingly, it's still legal to keep our windshields in this condition 😉🙏❤️

The most unnecessary slander on Rupert for no reason
I didn't mean to offend. I was reminded of The Last of Us when I was there with the moss growing on everything. Which is absolutely beautiful. It does feel like stepping into something historical. And I've heard what really makes Prince Rupert great is the community. The people are where it counts. I didn't mean any disrespect. For coming across as obtuse, I apologize.
Damn that title tho. I lived in PR for 5 years and yeah pretty much.
"It's a gem of a place," I've come to realize ;)
