According to my viewers, the new update includes energy compensation.

Good day! The difference in readings is mainly due to the presence of beta radiation, from americium's daughter, neptunium. I would also like to note that the 101 shows a lower value than the Geiger tube instrumentation, because: 1) not all dosimeters compensate for the detector's own background, 2) background readings are often below the measurement range. It is also probable that at low backgrounds the dynamics of devices on geiger counters is different. Scintillators do not have this effect. And lastly, check the calibration of your device, by the presence of potassium-40, and energy correspondence on the spectrum. Now the readings depend on the spectrum calibration)

Could you please lead me somewhere where the calibration process of 101 is explained? Mine is off little bit across the entire spectrum. Thank you!!!
Are the calibrations off on the radiacodes when you get them ? Or how often should you have to re calibrate them ? I didn't want to mess with the calibration and throw off the device .
@@Desertprophit83 you don;t have to recalibrate if you Radiacode detects precise KeV figures. My isitopes detected ten to be shifter in the spectrometer scale.

I bought on of these things a month ago. I am learning a lot. Well worth the money. You have a new subscriber. I’m a retired Airline Captain. Wish I had one of these when I was still flying. I know radiation increases with altitude.

the difference in readings here is due to the fact that the sensor at the radex is larger than the source, because of this the sensor does not measure the field, there is a rule - if the source is measured, then the distance to the source must be no less than the size of the sensor. At a distance of 5-7 cm, the readings of the instruments will be the same.

So happens I’m an Australian Geiger counter and survey meter collector. I’d been thinking about buying the radiacode for a while and the recent dose compensation firmware update seriously sold me!
Yeah I paid for mine right before the Ukraine thing. Still took 6 months to get it. I'd buy from stock outside RU.
I have a few counters, some I made myself.
soon another update will add 1024 channels instead of 256, an open beta test is already underway
@@TheAussieRepairGuy I have a few friends willing to sell or trade as I wouldn’t purchase a radiacode firsthand due to the conflict. Have considered a Raysid also.
Still can’t beat a trusty SBM-20 rig though!

Also so the update makes the radiacode less sensitive? Cuz of energy comp ? Its less sensitive
@@Desertprophit83 the update doesn't make it any less sensetive, it just changes the math to give a more accurate reading. Lower energy radiation like beta radiation is less dangerous and therefore influences the reading less. It will still flash/tic to inficate a detection at the same rate.
I've never tried to update firmware with the mobile app, I'll look into it.

@@Desertprophit83 I didn't know it had such a feature. Normally if your food reads significantly above background levels, it's probably not a great idea to consume it.
I had a look into the updates, and it needs to switch to firmware update mode while on usb-c, this can't be done over bluetooth.
In 4.0 version they quadrupled number of spectre channels, update released on 28.04.

Nice, I just updated to 4.01 on my original Radiacode 101 (bought Jan 2022). It sure does seem to have increased the spectral resolution. I took a quick spectrum in the app and shared as xml. There are several single non-zero points surrounded by zero. Also a pair of non-zero points with zero around. So it's not merely interpolating the original 256 resolution to 1024. It's nice they upgraded the old version rather than just push you to buy the 102 to get the new resolution.
