Thank you so much for watching!
That was brilliant, thank you very much. I learnt so much.
Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’ve been fish keeping for about 4 years now and finally feel ready for my first Cichlids tank. Following your information I’ve decided upon shell dwellers because I have hard water an ph up in the 8.2 -8.4 range. I’ve decided on a 20 long and am cycling my tank with 2 sponge filters I’ve had in my healthy Guppy and Betta (one male) tank. I’m going to allow it to cycle for a month and am hoping to find a half dozen Multi’s. I’m fortunate to live in the same town as Imperial Tropical Fish but they rarely have multis. Thank you SO MUCH for helping me to understand the biological aspects of fishkeeping and as a result I have 3 very healthy tanks. Merry Christmas!!! 🎄🎁
Awesome - good luck!
Good Morning, Hopefully you and your family had a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving. Thank you for the videos on fish food. I never considered the useful life of flake foods and the need to replace them in a timely manner. Dan
i plan on buying Neolamprologus similis for my 40-gal tank so that I can breed and sell them online, at local shops, and at an aquarium auction that's held a couple times a year downstate from me. our water is perfect parameters right out of the tap for African cichlids. my setup is a 40-gal with 1 hob filter, 2 6-in sponge filters, day-night led light, black diamond blasting sand substrate, and xl escargot shells. my dream is to make enough money from them to collect more tanks/equipment/fish to build a small business off of and the end goal is a full-on breeding company of rare exotic fish that will be sold at a fair price.
if there is a cichlid that is easy/fast to breed, sells quickly, produces more babies, doesn't eat their fry, and pulls more profit please let me know.

i loved the steam guys, thank you so much for the great info! Happy Holidays to you guys and your family
I know the live stream is over, but I have one more questions about multis. I was thinking as my multis continue to bred at some point I'd want to get some multis from another source to provide variety in the blood line and not have a bunch of inbred fish, but you made a comment about not introducing other fish that made me think that maybe that isn't a good idea. Thoughts?
You might be able to do that. I would QT them first.
Great live stream........ Thanks from UK......... its 4am haha........ Happy Holidays
Wow! Appreciate you being here with us. :-)
What about water flow with multis? Do they like high or low water flow? BTW.... great video. Keep up the good work. I love that you stay on topic and give a lot of information.
I keep the water flow average - nothing special.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics one more question. What temp do you keep your multies at? I thought that I heard 84 from a reputable youtube page (don't remember who). But I was reading on various pages that 80 was the max.
I have one male multi that was banished to the corner behind a big rock by the Alfa multi. He has shells in the corner for himself. Should I leave them as is or should I remove the rock ? They are in a 75gal so there’s plenty room for now.
He's probably ok. It's a big tank :-)
You dialed it in!
good information! I would love to try multis with sumbu shell, but I don't have space
it would help if you had pictures when talking about different fish
Gonna get there. Still trying to figure out live streams basics. 😀
I saw this stream when you made it and fell in love with the Bricardi (Princess Cichlid) so went out and bought a few. They are so cool and everyone that comes over falls in love with them. They breed like crazy. My tank is 180 litre and ph is 7 (no joking) temp is 26-28C and I have a ton of different plants in with them. Thanks for recommending them
Glad you are liking them!
Have a great Thanksgiving.
You too!
Hi Jason,
I've been watching your youtube videos on shell dwellers for some time. Really love these little fish. I live in South Africa and have been struggling for the best part of 10 years to get some shellies. I finally got some Multi's a couple of months ago, but it seems like if it rains it pours, because I can get some Ocellatus Gold as well. I was wondering if I could keep them together with my Multi's in a 3ft lowboy tank?
Would be nice to hear from you. Pieter
@Jason, you're a legend for the good advise! Thanks
I want some passive aggressive shell dwellers!!
So I have a 75 gallon tank and have multies, mollies, pet store asorted cichlids, a frog and pleco. They have all done surprisingly well together, one of the bigger cichlids protects the mutlies. And the mollies and multies just started breeding surprisingly. And suggestions for helping the unexpected fry survive?
You might have to remove the fry to a grow out tank for them to survive?
@PrimeTimeAquatics I have removed them and have them in a hang on breeder tank for now until I get a new tank set up for them.
Also have another question, do multies have a color changing trait? Because mine are on dark sand and appear very dark toned but after afew days now in the breeder tank the momma that had babies is a much lighter color. (The color changed took around 2-3 days to happen)
Great stream! Very interactive and amazing community!! Happy Thanksgiving all!! 🦃
Thanks for being there!
how many multis can i add in a 40 breeder or should i keep it around 10. it will be a new setup
I would add 6-10 and let them fill the tank as they breed. It will be fun. :-)
Do you sell the multis? And how much are they? Thanks
RIght now we only sell at local swaps and auctions.
I want to set up a 40 breeder Tanganyikan tank with multis. I like the option of Cyprichromis as a tabk mate. Could I also introduce a pair of Julidochromis in the tank with the multis and Cyprichromis? I am thinking the Julidochromis ornatus. I am not doing a breeding for profit, but would be happy with some babies making it through occasionally. Thanks!
They might fit in ok, but possibly reduce the likelihood of fry survival.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you! Is this a case of needing more room, so a 75 or another larger tank would increase fry survival? Or is it more that the mix of fish will just end up predating on the fry regardless of size?
24:50 LOLL
👍
I have a 20 long for my Multis, they are so stinkin cute. I have Mystery Snails with them, so far no problems. I consider it my low maintenance tank, because I have no plants in it.. I have the rocks from Aquarium CoOp in my 40 tall because my YoYos can’t leave my plants alone, great product. Video quality(audio video) was far better . Steal the fish.....LOL......I was contemplating this in a place I used to frequent, I just couldn’t figure if they had cameras or not. I don’t look good in orange. Lol You guys are just cute beyond words. Happy Thanksgiving! Love from Wisconsin.
Ya know youre at same time as Dans fish?
Ya, at this point there are streams pretty much every evening. We couldn’t do it on the weekends and we’re really busy on Tue/Thur. That left Mondays and Wednesdays as options. I know Bob and Cory are on Monday - thus Wednesday was the only day left. Can’t do it any earlier and don’t want to do it any later.
Great stream! What are your thought on 1x electric blue accara, pearl gourami, apistogramma, bn pleco and a school of odessa barbs in a 55g?
Sounds like something I would try. 😀
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for your reply! Looking forward to more streams. Happy Thanksgiving to you both
Could you use a black type sand substrate instead of the white?
You can, but they tend to lose some of their color and darken up a bit.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for the reply. Love you guys!
What’s your favorite african cichlid?
I'm growing out some furcifer "Ruziba" right now that might move to the top. :-)
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I have to be honest it’s rusty cichlid for me
Just watched your fantastic live stream! I’m really looking forward to my first Shelly tank! And I wish you a very happy thanksgiving🦃-jeff.
Thank you - you too!
I'm bummed I missed the live stream, but it was past my bedtime. During quarantine these livestreams are a great way to interact! Thanks for making the decision to present these streams, and I'll try to take a nap next week so I can stay up with y'all. 😆
Hope to see you there!
Happy Thanksgiving 😃👌🏼
Really enjoy your live stream .
You hooked me on shell dwellers! Glad you did 😊
They remind me of Smurfs
Awesome! Glad you like them!
happy thanksgiving
Like the video an awful lot! I love my multies, though 6 months in and no breeding, it's been very frustrating. I'm going to try the live baby brine...thanks for the tip! Any LFS in Chicago area or online you can recommend for purchasing more Multies? Also...Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I haven’t seen multis around our area. The LBB will help!
I bought 5 from The Wet Spot and after my heater malfunctioned 5 more from Vegas Valley Cichlids. Both seem to be sold out at the moment. You have to grit your teeth and ignore the shipping cost. Happy Thanksgiving!
Great stream! Learned a lot.
I've recently found out that my water is naturally PERFECT for African cichlids. I live in Central Indiana. It's very hard water and after it settles a day or two in the tank, pH is high right around 8.2. I've had this tank going for 3 years now and as much as I love my current fish, I feel awful that I'm keeping them in substandard water for their breeds. I have bronze corys, otocinclus, and serpae tetras that I'm most worried about. Is it worth donating them all to my LFS and getting cichlids? I also have 1 opaline gourami and 1 sunset honey gourami that I HOPE will get along with African cichlids. I also have a ~4 year old African dwarf frog but I am unsure if he will be ok with African cichlids. The sad part is when I first started this tank, my gut feeling told me to start with cichlids...I'm now kicking myself. Thanks for the amazing video!
I wouldn't stress too much about your fish. I have kept all of those fish (and frogs) in those water parameters without issues. They may not breed successfully in that water but I find they tolerate the water well enough. Most likely if you bring them to the store they will sell them to someone with the same parameters as your anyway. I probably wouldn't mix the dwarf frog with cichlids.
I failed to mention its a 50 gallon, 48" long. Sand and live planted. Thanks for the quick response! I feel much better about them now! Happy Thanksgiving!
Can you talk more about the compressicep shell dweller
Great fish - grow really slow and will eat whatever will fit into their mouth. Really like the golds!
Good🐠🐠🐠
Always entertaining! Keep it up Prime Time!!
Thank you!
I'm glad you guys started streaming.
Thank you!
Awesome stream!!! The time is night time for India... But I loved it !!!
I heard that really tough plants, like Anubias, is not attractive to fish that might otherwise eat plants. Is that true for Severums? Also, that's a great way to use up your duckweed!!
Our severums have eaten everything. :-)
