My friend Ron texted to say that he was going stir-crazy and needed to take a little ride.
He called by for a few minutes on his really cool Norton Commando 750.
It was great to chat, even if from 12 feet away
Please take care of yourselves!
Buy me a coffee? ☕ 😉

That's such a beautiful bike. The
Black and gold is my favorite, Mine is yellow
Love British motorcycles
Few things sound as sweet as a well-tuned 750 Commando. Love it. Thanks!
Glad you like it Corey! It's such a great, mostly original bike. Hope all is well. Cheers, Mike
So nice
Fantastic !!! Looks just like my husband's 71 bought new in London in 1971. Sadly sold in a fit of poverty.
Thanks for brightening our day.
Thank you very much Melinda. Best wishes, Mike
Isn't it strange how we are all going through the exact same concerns at the very same time around the globe?
Take care Mike.
Thanks Wooley! It's a surreal time isn't it! I hope you are doing okay. Best wishes, Mike
Glad to have you back in the States!!
Thanks very much Kevin. It's such a relief to be home. Hope you are doing okay. Best wishes, Mike
Love the upswept pipe look on the commando. That's UK in lockdown now so no bike riding here for a while just as spring springing. You just made it back Mike. Be safe and best wishes to everyone out there.
I had exactly the same year Norton, Mine was Yellow fastback model with dunstall fairing. . I bought in 1972 in Berkeley Ca I quit riding after serious crash.
Jes, that wonderfull bike
Nice bike with real voice
The sound of that bike is awesome
Thanks Frank. It's such a great original bike. Cheers, Mike
I’m a long way from my bikes in Aus...I know I would go for a ride if I were there
magic
Yeah, I did a ride on my bike today as well. We can’t stop riding.👍👏
Hehe, a certain Mr. Geoff is also trying to fumigate the local area by riding his 2-stroke Suzuki around the countryside! ;)
Mi Ty Ahhh, the water buffalo lives😊
I think it’s good to get out on a bike in the fresh air even with the spring pollen. Sunday I changed the break-in oil in the new bike and had to take it for a “test” ride and get some gas ⛽️. It was a very pleasant 41 mile loop wandering around Washington Co. backroads. There were lots of motorcycles out and even more bicycles but very few cars. Got home just before sunset feeling refreshed. Glad you made it back home, Mike.
Thanks a lot Scott. Glad to hear that you are doing okay. Yes, we are all fine and staying home. I haven't ridden myself. I got all ready to go for a quick ride on Friday afternoon on the Thruxton as I thought it would be easier to go on my "push button bike". I pushed the button and the battery was dead ;) So I took that as a sign from the universe and stayed home instead ;)
Stay Safe Mike 👍🙏
Damn, why is ron so cool?!
Nice commando, great to see you keeping your spirits up 😀
Thanks a lot David. Hope all is well with you and yours! Best wishes, Mike
Riding my rebuilt BSA B2 around tomorrow to run it in with a new piston. I live in the country, west of Brisbane, so the roads should be quiet and the temperature is about perfect now for riding down under 😄
That does sound perfect! Hope you had a great ride! Cheers, Mike
Awesome bike, I know how he's feeling. It sounds great.
Hehe, thanks Alan. Ron loves that bike! It's the real deal ;).
Nice bike our Ron has there.
Many thanks! It's one of my favorites with it being so cool and original! Cheers, Mike
Stay safe Mike ,& keep that distance !.
All the best from your friends in Australia.🙂
Thank you Greg! All the very best wishes to you. Take care, Mike
I love the sound of the Snortin - Nortin ! I would love to ride mine again, but almost got put down more than twice by dumb asss fools on smart asss phones ! Got a new battery in the box too. Wish I could just jump on her, and ride till I run on reserve ! Miss those days !
I just picked up the twin to this bike today. It's been taken apart and everything but the frame, seat and tank were in a big wooden box. The handle bars and clamps and front brake rotor are missing. I forget the exact number but, the odometer reads less than 2000 miles! The motor has the head and cylinders removed. The trans is together and turns smooth. I'm trying to figure out which style of commando it is. The tail light looks the same and the side covers are, too. The tank is a "custom" painted fiberglass one but, the guy I bought the bike from said it was purchased because a steel tank cost more. It's got the upswept pipes and the front fender braces are missing. This one appears to have a drum brake in front. Any way, that's a beautiful bike.
Fantastic Lyle. Good luck with your project. Just love these earlier models. They are so sleek and cool looking. I don't know if you know about the AccessNorton forum, but it is a great resource for Norton Commando questions. www.accessnorton.com. The guys should also be able to help in identifying which model it is. Yes, the bike in the video also has a fiberglass tank. It has a lovely warm creamy black color to it after years or patina 😉 Good luck!
It occurred to me that motorcyclists, Sturgess attendees excepted, seem to be very respectful and considerate in this age of covid, my classic bike club here in Australia are the same, sadly many events cancelled but always aware of our health and well-being.
Mike, I do hope you can continue the series, I wonder if perhaps they can come in twos and do a little comparison chat about why they like their bikes and compare features etc. in any case I could watch these all day so thankyou so much for this wonderful entertainment. I like the Vincent runs as well, alas no Vincent to play with. Regards, Paul
Hi Paul, thanks a lot for your great note. I really appreciate it. I'm hoping to have some more visitors this year and have sent a few invitations out already. The weather is not so great at the moment, but hopefully soon we will have some nice dry and warmer days to go riding or have visits to the cul-de-sac. Best wishes, Mike
Great stuff...I loved that. We too are beginning our covid-19 lockdown in NZ tomorrow. Your mates bike is almost identical to my 1972 model apart from disc brake and combat motor....same colour though. Guess I'm gonna need a blast soon too! Take care man.
Thanks a lot Pat! Hope you're doing okay and keeping safe. I have NZ on my bucket list.. one of these days I would LOVE to travel there and ride around some of your beautiful country! My nephew is at college in Dunedin, so I might need to pay him a visit!! Best wishes, Mike
I had a four week head start on shelter in place due to spine surgery. I had to get outside as well today. I have months to go before I can ride.
Take care!
Hi Larry. Ouch! I hope all is well and you are recovering okay. It sounds like you were just in the nick of time before everything changed. I hope you have a strong recovery and stay healthy. Best wishes, Mike
@@TheMightyGarage Thanks, I sure do want to go for a ride! It's all going well.
I'm just a bit ahead of you Larry. I had a great surgeon and physical therapist. I'm somewhat able to kick start the grandson's CR125R and ride a little bit of dirt. Best of luck.
Sounds nice Ron, it's something we will need to get used to Mike. Keeping in touch is definitely a high priority imo.
Keep well, keep your distance .. atvb t ..
Thanks Terry. I hope all is well with you. Best wishes and stay safe!
Commandos keep your head right
Exactly like my 71 Commando Combat....except mine had a disc brake....
Bonjour

ps: Norton is King
@@hervetoutcourt996 Bonjour Hervé
Merci beaucoup d'avoir partagé votre histoire! Je suis heureux que vous appréciez ma chaîne. J'ai étudié le français au collège il y a longtemps. Mais ça fait longtemps que je ne parle pas français. Surtout ici aux États-Unis! Il y a une différence de fuseau horaire de 8 heures. Meilleurs voeux, Mike
I wonder how tall your friend is? The 750 looks to fit him perfectly, although he does make paddling it backwards look a bit awkward. I ask because I'm 6' 3" and wanting to buy a classic Norton as addition to the modern 961 Commando I currently own.
Hi, I'm not entirely sure how tall Ron is. I'd say he's around 5'9"-5'10". We do have some taller guys in the club with Commandos. You could also consider a MK3, which is quite bigger/wider bike that might be a better fit. I'm a shorty at 5'7" and my feet only just touch the ground on a MK3 😉
😜👍
What is the fair market value for a ''69 750 Norton, 16480 miles, in excellent shape, if I were to buy one? Do you think the value of these motorcycles will go up in value in the next decade?
That's a tough question to answer at the moment. Prices also depend upon the condition and where you are located. Generally speaking, Commandos are much less expensive to buy in the USA than in the UK. And they cost a fortune in Australia. Even state by state, the costs vary. Here in Oregon, we are very fortunate in having relatively low prices. I would estimate a broad price range of anywhere from $5k up to $10k for a 69 Commando. Sorry I can't be more specific but I would need to see some pictures. Will they go up in value in the next decade? it's hard to predict but I don't think I would buy one for an investment.
@@TheMightyGarage Thanks for your reply... I had a '07 Suzuki GSXR 600 (fast bike). I sold her after sitting in the garage for 3 years and not being used. It's been probably 5 years now since I rode a motorcycle. I've been looking at cafe racers lately. I'm in NY... there's a one up for sale not too far from me hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/mcy/d/carmel-1971-norton-commando/7096902059.html. It's a beautiful looking bike IMO. What do you think about the build and price?
@@TheMightyGarage Here's another example of a Norton Commando, it's a '69. What do you think about this one and price?newlondon.craigslist.org/snw/d/marlborough-1969-norton-750/7106936542.html
m marmrcz hello, I got your email. I’ll send you a note tomorrow 👍👍
