Sam Bush is, quite simply, magical. He brings a special something to every band, every tune and every song that he has ever been involved in. Just brilliant. 👍👍👍🪕🎶 Gerry Farry
Listen, this will be a long story, or not. But I’m from Holland , you know, The Netherlands. Just today, I’m in France, with my son, daughter, girlfriend, her brother and some other people. Just listen some music on UA-cam, you know? And then your band, I don’t know, if you are a band, or just performing, comes by.....really,really great music. And , I know, how difficult it it’s to play on a guitar, banjo, or violin. You, and I don’t know, your family or you band, really great job, playing this kind of music. I love it!
Great, great music! Big shout out to Tom T Hall for including this on his bluegrass album years ago or I might have never hear the song. These are incredible musicians and the two young ladies are a thrill to listen to as well as watch .Bobby Hicks and Sam Bush are legends.Love this!
Oh, and incidentally I am very jealous of Sierra Hull's musicianship. She is simply incredible and getting better all the time. She's also very nice to her fans.
@jolysable Thanx. Guess I missed her very brief and only solo, on the first pass. The vast majority of the time the only part of her that was in the frame waas her lovely left hand. Seems that maybe seniority has its privileges. I just recently "discovered" her and everything about her just blows me away. (And I'm 75!) Would so love to meet her.
Terrific ... I can't help but notice that most people who listen to bluegrass obviously don't realize how much skill is needed to play the banjo as Alison does here. The applause always goes to guitarists, mandolinists and fiddlers pretty much ... and it is the same whoever is playing ... unless you have a "name" like Fleck perhaps ... this is how it is on 95% of performances by bands ... taking nothing away from the others playing here of course. They are ALL great.
The microphones that can be seen below and right of the camera belong to the Harvard University sound man. The videographer was seated front row dead center and used Sennheiser 441s(not pictured). Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.
Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Prodcuctions. Special thanks to Panamaredd, Harvard University, Sam, Allison, Sierra Hull, Bobby Hicks, the O"Connor Family, and Banjo.
Happy Holidays. This single camera shoot put the lense on the action. I'm as big a Sierra Hull fan as anyone, but decisions had to be made. As with Garcia, chances were that Phil Lesh was an afterthought when full attention was paid to the lead. And that is how it will always be. Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.
A lot of musical genius happening here. And fast... about ten notes per second times sixty times 4:48 is over 2800 notes, just counting one instrument.
Super pickers right there! Sierra Hull is a monster....when she get's through with a ride, there ain't much left. I wished they had a guitar and bass with them for that session.
@HRMuffinStuff Sam is some kind of a morphing hybrid, playing electric guitar (I believe) sometimes....He is awesome on Mandolin, and I remember what "everyone" said at the music workshops of the Gray Fox fest about Sam Bush.....the musicians said Sam bush was the best musical "timepiece" of a mandolin player. They claimed he was a perfect "clock" of mandolin playing. The best timepiece I guess.
What's Up with Sierra's mike,Her volume needed to be turned up,What Nobody noticed ?But She Hung in there and played her lead in spit-of-it,KUDOS to you Sierra
Yeah, there's a real richness and depth to the sound you get with some good guitar and bass (Some Jerry Douglas in there on a dobro would be great too). Having said that, I'm a mando player so I like being able to hear the mandolin players clearly. Sierra Hull isn't my favourite mando player (I like things to sound a little rougher) but you have to take your hat off to her. Incredibly gifted.
sambu is who got me playn the mando cause him and emmy at the ryman but the current news is that he aint not my hero any more, now that precious sierra is.......Isn't she sumthin' god bless u girl
Anyone who ever said white guys don't have rhythm need to listen to a group like this. The man singing (Sam?) and playing mandolin has a great sense of rhythm and a wonderful back-home, traditional-sounding voice. And yes Sierra can really play AND she's absolutely beautiful; certainly a rare combination! In my neck of the woods, very few girls play music seriously. The girls that do play are usually just playing for attention and have no passion for music..it's sad. Regards & Cheers from Boston
Has anybody seen the troll that goes by the Prince of tubesteak? He likes to hide behind his computer, criticize musicians and play a badass behind a computer screen. He'd piss himself if I had to opportunity to get in his face. Guaranteed.
Saw Sam Bush last weekend. Too bad he doesn't play bluegrass anymore. He's still searching for something completely different but he ain't found it yet. I wish they would have potted his chops down and turned up Sierra's solo in this recording -- she's an amazing musician -- Bobby and Allison are amazing too. At least Sam still remembers bluegrass lyrics and his voice isn't all that bad.
Wow, that was an old post. I wish I had video of his performance at Suicide Six in NH two years ago. His bluegrass numbers were pretty tight. When he and his band tried playing about a 1/2 hour cheesy power chord jam with one incessant pentatonic scale on overdriven instruments it just sounded amateurish. Who knows, maybe they were hammered, maybe they were bored and decided the audience wasn't worthy of their good stuff. Sierra's band was top notch as was Ricky Skaggs' band.
Excellent, dahoss65!! It was a F O U R mile race!! This distance was not than uncommon in those days unlike the American penchant recently for 6 furlong races. Ten Broeck was the first horse in Kentucky to have a gravestone erected in his memory. It is located just outside Midway, Kentucky, just off Old Frankfort Road. As Ten Broeck is in the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame his name can never be used again in it's original spelling. Our thoroughbred mare foaled a fine colt in March.....Tenbrook!

Timeless and amazing music, cool Sam´s singing and great Alison´s and Sierra´s skills.

My flabber is well and truly ghasted by gosh! Superb!
words r not enough! princess Sierra , king Sam , and Queen Alison !!!
Four great musicians on a tune from the middle 1800’s.

My God, Sierra Hull absolute 🔥
Oh, and incidentally I am very jealous of Sierra Hull's musicianship. She is simply incredible and getting better all the time. She's also very nice to her fans.
Love it! I remember many years ago having a Tom T Hall LP record with Molly and Tembrook on it!
I saw Sam Bush play with Lyle Lovett's Band back in probably 2004. Lyle always has great players with him.
Two super guitarists smokin those strings! Incredible to say the least! So cool.
gooooooodddd what a lineup!!!!!!!!!!! i would do anything to have been at this show
Love it! Great pickin' n singin' guys!

No doubt about it: Sam Bush OWNS this song!

Bluegrass, the natural cure for depression
+john sosman If you Only knew the Half -of-it,That;s what got me hooked on "BlueGrass"
For real. However the Louvin Brothers songs of tragedy such as Knoxville Girl were rather dark.
u guys r the best : Bobby. Sam Sierra and .....Alison , which I fell in love with!

she also plays the mandolin

Lets haul this front porch to the city boys and girls for a big show!!
R.I.P. Bobby Hicks
Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Prodcuctions. Special thanks to Panamaredd, Harvard University, Sam, Allison, Sierra Hull, Bobby Hicks, the

Another killer one !
in order to sit down and play you normally had to be "an elder statesman" of BG. these guys sure are that. wonderful version
Super Fine!
Sierra makes it look so easy!
Yep
can anyone tell what banjo Alison is playing? It sounds amazing!
Happy Holidays. This single camera shoot put the lense on the action. I'm as big a Sierra Hull fan as anyone, but decisions had to be made. As with Garcia, chances were that Phil Lesh was an afterthought when full attention was paid to the lead. And that is how it will always be.

@lordchauncey It would have been Perfect if the camera only showed Sierra the whole time!! LOL! And i agree the mixing was sub par to say the least!
ALISON!!!!!!!
fucking lovvve it. sam bush killing it, and sierra ripping that shit up haha so good
.....miss the bass in this, but DANG!!! T:)
and the gitare, and the dobro
Hay Mick I was wonderin what instrument you play!
AWESOME banjo pickin!!! T:)
A lot of musical genius happening here. And fast... about ten notes per second times sixty times 4:48 is over 2800 notes, just counting one instrument.
ive never thought of it like that ! goat point
1:45 - that look at the audience. "that was just a little something, ya know?" kind of look.
I like this before I eve realised Sierra was in it.
@prescomp It's an intense freaking song and he's singing it with emotion. It's not a live studio cut. Spewing? Do you even know who Sam Bush is?
who is this @prescomp anyway??
Super pickers right there! Sierra Hull is a monster....when she get's through with a ride, there ain't much left. I wished they had a guitar and bass with them for that session.
Bobby Hicks how good fiddle player is this dude? Many years with Skaggs and other b/g bands.
That is some mature playing that only comes from the years and years of experience
I saw Bobby Hicks play in Dahlonega, GA about 12 years. He was great then and still is.
Nice to see and hear a Child Prodigy in Bluegrass.
@prescomp What the hell is wrong with Sam Bush's voice? Not American Idol enough for you?
What's Up with Sierra's mike,Her volume needed to be turned up,What Nobody noticed ?But She Hung in there and played her lead in spit-of-it,KUDOS to you Sierra
Don't get me wrong, this is brilliant but there is definitely something missing without a guitar or bass.

All I know is, if you don't get it, I don't get you. Go, go, go..
sam is smokin' :-D
Allison brown
sambu is who got me playn the mando cause him and emmy at the ryman but the current news is that he aint not my hero any more, now that precious sierra is.......Isn't she sumthin' god bless u girl

Sierra? WHAT SIERRA?????
Dang she got them little bitty fingers...!
This is pretty cool to listen to if you're into Bluegrass.

Mr prince of tubesteak, your jealousy is showing again.

Another jealous wannabe musician, I'd wager.

And the race was from point to point. The rider could decide his exact route. No rules other than whomever got to point B was the winner.
Sounds great, but I miss a thumping bass.
