- Coming up, we’re showcasing a song that boasts the most recognizable date ever used in a lyric. September 21st! For decades people have wondered why the band who wrote this 70s classic chose this particular day. Earth Wind and Fire and their classic hit September made that date famous but the truth may not be what you think it is. Earth Wind and Fire or EWF, is known for the pure positivity that they infuse into all of their music. Any time you drop the needle on one of their records it's a guaranteed good time. And September is the epitome of all of that...Written by the band’s leader Maurice White and a songwriter he called up out of the blue who was on food stamps at the time and struggling mightily. Maurice Alle Willis her shot at the title and together they authored the 1978 smash September.. one of the most joyful jams of the era. So get ready, we’ve got the story… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

So, it’s time for another edition of #1 in Our Hearts. This show honors songs that were so unbelievably great, they absolutely should've been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. But for whatever reason, be it radio play, lack of marketing, label support, or just sheer stupidity, the song came up short. On previous episodes, we have covered You Make My Dreams by Daryl Hall and John Oates and I Can Dream About You by Dan Hartman.
This one should’ve been #1 for 10 weeks. It’s one of the most joyful get-up-and-dance ditties ever recorded. Today we are taking a deep dive into Earth, Wind, and Fire’s 1978 hit September. Seriously How this wasn’t a #1 song right out of the gate is beyond me. It is just so good. I really can’t say enough about Earth Wind, and Fire. They are one of my favorite groups… they’re just so electric. So today I want to celebrate this incredible group, their incomparable leader Maurice White, and their signature song September… which is a guaranteed hair-standing-on-end, smile-enhancing extravaganza!
Maurice White was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and began his musical career as part of a jazz trio called the Mad Lads that he co-formed with his childhood buddy, the illustrious Booker T. Jones. Reflecting back on those early days, Booker remembered Maurice as a shy kid who spoke in a whisper. But that shyness would be short-lived, as Maurice would later break out of his shell to showcase an energetic personality that would captivate the world. After the White family moved from Memphis to Chicago, Maurice played drums for a few local bands, including the Pharaohs and the Jazz Band, before getting hired as a session drummer for Chess Records. - Розваги

“Brick House” by the Commodores got everyone on the dance floor in my neck of the woods back in the day.
Love that song.
Fancy Dancer by the original Commodore's set off an Alabama Funk Alert so loud that they had to Shutdown I 65 for three weeks!
Hell yeah!
...as a teenager, I was stuck at a Marriott during the East Coast Great Blizzard of 1978, on a school field trip that supposed to last a couple hours and ended up being seven full days until we were able to get home.
the band that was set to play the Marriott that night it's stuck there too.
men they worked that band, the seems like they were playing 24/7, and I must have heard brickhouse 500 times that we can, but still love it, damn what an awesome song
FUNKY MUSIC 1976 SUPER PACKED 70s dance floors
That song crosses every generation! Play it for senior citizens, play it for Gen Z, or any generation in between, and everyone lights up! I love EWF.
I saw a nursing home video where the residents danced to this song the other day.
My gen z son loves this song!
Some of us senior citizens were young when that song came out!!
I don’t understand why they are not a staple of the classic rock stations - clearly one of the greatest groups of the 70s
Earth Wind and Fire was my childhood. They truly and literally made everything better. Even my grades went up! Always and forever.❤
Phillip Bailey is one of the greatest r&b singers of all time and Maurice White's vision and talent were also unmatched. Earth, Wind And Fire dominated the pop/r&b scene for decades. September is arguably their greatest triumph.....
One of the greatest examples of two varied singers in one band.
September seems to be one of those songs that is more popular now than at the time of its release.
Exactly right!
And for good reason.
The great Maurice White is still sadly missed. A visionary and driving force behind EWF, one of the best bands ever, he also produced other notable artists over the years. Had the pleasure of seeing EWF in concert and it was truly an unforgettable experience! Thanks, Adam!
Thanks Robster!
He was so legendary.
His funeral is on UA-cam somewhere, it's a moving tribute to a legend. The band performs with a massive choir and you can see Verdine and Philip crying at points throughout it.
rob was just looking at april.uncut yesterday fred white after leaving donny.hathaway rejoined his brothers to drums on some of their big hits in the 80sof course mariece was also.a drummer marvin gsye also.when they were young men working in motownlucky i saw the band live once 80s then 2004 or 5 cant recall.
Same here! I saw them in concert in 1981!
Dang! How you can always pull out a song from my past and turn a poor mood into a great one with your stories and selections is beyond me. Keep doin' what you do, and THANK YOU!
I try!
😃
I couldn’t have said it better! The Professor’s videos always seems to lift my spirits! He’s a living legend!
Yes! They literally brought us into sustainable adulthood. Even now. Any song.
My birthday is on September so this song is special to me ever since 1978 when I was in 1st grade- my wife’s birthday too - we’re a September couple !
Very cool. I'll have to remember that!
My birthday is in January, and the song I found for that month was by Pilot. I’m jealous of you guys!
SWEET
My husband and I got to see them twice before he passed away. The first concert was a "double header" show with Chicago. Wow, talk about a great concert! The 2nd time, Chic opened for them. Another banger of a show! Ah, memories.
Maurice is the king!
I got to see them in Universal Orlando's Mardi Gras. They've played that event several times.
Amazing concerts!
I cried the day that Maurice passed away. What a talent! I loved all of EWFs material. My wife and i were expecting our first baby when this song came out. What a joyful time in our lives. That’s how I remember September.
Loved this band for over 40 years...like Chicago...they came on the scene with such a unique sound and disco beat you had to listen. So glad 'they' are returning to Summerfest this June...never sick of great music. RIP Maurice
You instantly knew it was them.
Yes they are great. We saw Chicago in concert in the 70s. Both bands are really great.
I dare anybody to listen to Earth Wind and Fire and not start dancing with a smile on your mug. 1978 was such a great year..... I made all stars in Little League, met my first "real" girlfriend, was heading into high school the next year. Funny enough the memory I associate with this song is the batting cages.... I don't know why, it's just where I always heard it and my friends and I would just start singing.... at the top of our lungs , of course, especially the Bad e Ya...... I think it's great you picked up the Greatest Hits of EWF out of the bargain cassettes......I have found some GEMS in those displays! It is also MANDITORY to play this song on the 21st day of September.
Guaranteed to get anyone on the dance floor!
You're right about 78. It's one of music's best years ever.
It is a ritual in our household. We celebrate 9/21 like a holiday.
I answer a lot of your videos with professional responses, but this one's more personal. I had a keyboard in my apartment in Las Vegas in the late 2000s, and my daughter was in second grade. She was noodling around with the actual notes but not coming up with anything, but it had a program where you could follow along and try to play the songs that were pre-programmed in it. There were about two hundred, and number two was Earth Wind & Fire's September. Once my daughter heard that song she never failed to play it when she was over at my house, usually six or seven times each time she sat down. I equate this song to her, and she equates it to me. She's now 21 and has already released one full album and another single.
I’ve tried to play this song on piano!
You will never attend a wedding, and not hear that song!!! I think the fact that the lyrics are very simple is directly connected to why the song is so infectious. The words don't even remotely get in the way, and the melody just takes over.
One of my all-time favorite bands. NOTHING else sounds like them. Maurice White has one of THE best and most distinctive singing voices, along with J.T. Taylor of Kool &The Gang.
I always marveled that EW&F was hardly ever lauded or talked about, despite the greatness and uniqueness of their songs and sound. I feel the exact same about ELO and Jeff Lynne.
My father took me to hear Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire when their summer 2015 tour took them to Bethel Woods. The date was September 1, and it was the last concert he and I attended before Steve Gordon passed away 4 years and 2 months later. The date of the concert made their performance of "September" that much more enjoyable, coupled with how Philip Bailey sounded even better than he had 40 years earlier when he joined EWF. Philip is easily one of my singing influences.
Wow. Thank you for sharing that...
I saw that tour as well. Phenomenal !
I also saw those 2 Legendary bands together, the best part was Both Legendary horn sections jamming onstage together, was Amazing ❤️
Philip can still kill it!
Now THAT would have been a fantastic show!
Agreed, " September" is an all-time great and joyous song!!
"It was the 3rd of September, that day I'll always remember" - Papa Was A Rolling Stone - The Temptations. Less joyous, but a great jam!
Good call!
Should we make September 3 a holiday too?
Always loved this song...I lost my Dad when I was just 18 in 1981 on this date. So when this song comes on my thoughts go to him....thank you for sharing this song❤
You're welcome! I lost my dad a few year back too. Miss him everyday. Thanks for sharing.
So sorry. 😢
I swear it was before 1981 though they used to play it at discos in 1977 and 78.
EW&F was a staple band for me through high school & earlier in my life- how could it not? The band fired me up and brought me through some tough emotional times.
It’s like they were cheering you on the whole time.
Who doesn’t love THIS song? It transcends everything!
IT does exactly that!
💯
I love Earth Wind, & Fire. I don't like the song September, despite being born in September. It's overplayed. I like After the Love Has Gone, Let's Groove, Fantasy, Sing a Song, Shining Star, Boogie Wonderland, and That's the Way of the World, but September drives me insane. Just like Kool and the Gang's Celebration. A band that has a bunch of really good songs that are overshadowed by that one song that is played to death at every party, and on every station that doesn't know they have other equally good songs.
September is when my mom was born.
This song never ever ceases to remind me of my mom every single time I hear it. 😍😍😍😍😍😍
And the happiness makes my wiggle each time
IT's a happy song for sure.
For me, my grandma.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980
really!?? 😍
that's awesome! 💓
@@Elhastezy888 Yup. My grandparents adore EWF.
THATS GREAT
September is one of those songs that once you hear it, it will stay in your head the rest of the day.
We had a family reunion in the 80's and I brought this CD to the party. Everybody had a great time dancing to ewf especially this song. Happy times!
I just heard this song on the radio this morning on my way to work. What a classic!!!
It's perfect.
No wonder it’s all over the place!
On September 21st of every year, I will crank this song as soon as I get to work and dance with my colleagues before we start the day. A great way to start autumn!
I do the same!
RIH Allee Willis. One of the most underrated songwriters of my generation. Thanks for telling this story Adam
One of the best songs ever! I've had the honor to see EW&F 3 times over the years. Thank you for the history!
What a classic. Definitely true about the sheer positivity and feel-good vibes that radiated from EWF. Always lifts up the spirits, and that combined with the infectious groove of Funk is a instant success. Cheers
Infectious as the day is long! Thanks RC32
@@ProfessorofRock Always a great pleasure!
I've loved this song since the first day I heard it as a teen. Pure joy!
My son was born in 1992, and as a baby/toddler certain songs just made him very happy, and this was one of his favorites.
Another favorite song of his was "Bamboléo" by the Gipsy Kings, which just proves that great music can be any language. Gipsy Kings are from France but grew up in Spanish culture so they sing in Spanish. Anyone who can sit still during that song has to be near death!
They made everybody wear a smile.
LOVE her songs, and this is my favorite song of ALL TIMES.
Just like you, it helped a different looking kid cope with being bullied as a 2nd grader. It also takes me back to those days at Skateland in Savoy, Illinois back in 1978-1979.
Thank you for highlighting this gem…it has made me a very happy woman. ❤️
Very cool!
Skating to the disco beat!
When Sara Evans covered Chicago's "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Get Away" she segued into the chorus from "September".
Allee was fun! She lived in a house one of the movie studios (MGM?) built as a party house. Her collection was intense.
Thank you, Professor, for highlighting this song. I listened to EW&F ALL the time and my wife couldn't stand them, but she acquiesced to taking our newborn daughter to their concert at SPAC in 2006. While at the event, my wife changed her mind and bought a little onesie with the band's logo on it.
I was the same way with Karen Carpenter.
All of the people who took the time to list their favorite dance songs made me smile. You can see the generations represented. This is a terrific community of music lovers!
If not for this community life would be a lot more boring for me. 😊
Amazing. I have not heard this tune for years and started dancing to it right off the bat. Love POR
I LOVE your memories of your childhood.
Your DAD ROCKED!
I was lucky enough to see them live at the Forum in Los Angeles. What a show!! The costumes, the dancing, the pyrotechnics, and of course the amazing music!! September was one of the songs that they played, of course, and everyone in our section was on their feet, dancing and singing along, even if it was just the ba dee ya’s. My dad had bought the tickets and they were fantastic seats. He was so happy during the entire concert -I still remember seeing his smile as he danced with my mom.
Philip Bailey’s voice made my heart soar. Star was another joyful song of theirs that I loved. I still remember how I heard that Earth Wind And Fire donated all the proceeds from that song to a charity benefiting children in need. It was such a generous act that it brought tears to my eyes. And even though it’s sad, Reasons is so soulful and beautiful.
Thank you for covering this song and the band. It brought back memories of my dad in happier times. ✌🏼💖🤘🏼
My mom had a blast at the EWF concert she attended.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 Your mom has great taste in music! You’re here, so it looks like she passed it on to you. ✌🏼💖
@@YvetteArby Exactly what happened.
I can't believe this song wasn't number 1. You could cover almost anything by EWF. September, Fantasy, Getaway, Boogie Wonderland, Let's Groove tonight, After the love has gone, Serpentine Fire. All are filled with great songs and even better musicianship. I can't read, write, or play a note. But boy, can I hear it when they are top-notch musicians. I always loved EWF, even when I wasn't a big fan of disco. I went to them because that's where the girls were! Great video, Adam
It’s an easy #1 in our hearts.
EWF also got a raw deal when "September" placed at #78 on the 1979 Year-End Hot 100 Singles chart.
RE "I can't read, write, or play a note. But boy, can I hear it when they are top-notch musicians." If you can hear the music, that's the thing. Many people can't. If you ever do want to play, reading and writing notes is the least of it. It will come in time almost as a byproduct of the process. Music theory isn't really theory, it's an academic analysis of music after the fact. The music came first.
I graduated from HS in 77 some September and just about every song from EWF were huge hits at dances and just hanging out. I love their music.
Play that Funky music white boy
My guitar teacher LOVED EW&F... Made me listen to ALOT of them, makes smile when I hear something from EWF, RIP John Jaski
The perfect party song! And THAT voice...
No joke!
Nobody like Maurice.
LOVE this song and this band! Thank you so much for this video. Saw Earth, Wind & Fire in concert some time back and they were truly amazing. Great sounds and people from various demographics were in the audience. EWF touches a lot of people. I told one young guy there I grew up with this music and he said he wished he had grown up with music like this. It was exciting when it first came out. This is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thanks again. Great job!
This was, and still is, one of my favorite songs!! Good days, good times, good music!!! Thanks for the memories!! 😊
Born in the 70's and in September this is one of my favorite songs by Earth Wind and Fire.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Earth Wind and Fire. Absolute great group. Provided great listening experience in the 70s. Blended many types of music together for a sound that was both different and Joyous.
The White brothers were also genius for inviting Phillip Bailey to join the group.
Between this song and Boogie Wonderland, they make you jump up and want to scream shout and dance! Love love love their catalog of music.
If the Hippos climbed a ladder, would they still be Hungry Hungry? 😅😅😅
Thanks for this, Professor. Great way to end the week with positive music!
Thanks Roger!
DANCE! Boogie wonderlaaaaaaaand 💃
I LOVE YOUR BILLY IDOL TEE! ✌❤ That's a GREAT song. EW&F had fantastic costumes and chpeographed dancing. They put on SOME shows! ❤. Maurice knew his stuff. September usually is a beautiful month and the "Bad du's" is just a happy feeling in September. A happy day, a happy feeling. ❤ Happy for Ms. Allie.
Got it the night we did our show together last week!
They sure could boogie on down! Yes, pun intended.
One of THE ALL-TIME greatest songs and bands EVER! P.E.R.I.O.D
Maurice White was a musical genius, I am very glad you made this. They're a great group.
I love that song. Listening to Earth Wind and Fire genuinely makes me happy, maybe more than any other band. I love the entire funk genre. EWF were so glamorous on stage, unlike today’s band who present themselves like slobs. Serious competition for “September” unfortunately. I had my glasses broken a lot back in the 70’s. Rolling Stone “when it was cool” *BOOM* you nailed it. Great memories of that song for you. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada 🍁
They lit the stage on fire. They did not need no pyrotechnics. Cheers Gio 🍻
21st night of September is my husbands birthday! This song is in our permanent list not just because it’s his birthday but because as you say it’s such a joyous groove.
Thanks again for the great stories about our favorite music!
Lucky man!
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 yeah he’s always claimed it was written for him 🤣
@@Fiona2254 Don’t most songs sound like personal letters?
I’m so glad I got to see Maurice & the band. This was definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen & I’m still thinking of learning how to play a kalimba. Shalom Maurice. Thank you for great musical memories. 🥀
Kalimba Story is a recommended listen for those who want to learn to play.
What I remember: released just around the end of a teacher's strike in Delaware, so we had to return to school. 7th grade, awful year, straight As. Apple II computers in school, pinball by Gottlieb in bowling alleys, Atari 2600 at home. A friend and I both had paper routes, so we made good money, went to the local 7-11 for comics a lot. Fantastic Four #200-up. Asterix, Tin Tin. Fantastic FM radio days, lots of channels with lots of genre in the Philly area. Loved Easy Listening/Beautiful Music, pop, progressive rock, hard rock. NPR played old radio dramas (the Shadow) on Sunday nights. TV sucked, everything else rocked. SEPTEMBER was one of the most memorable tunes from the charts in late 79-early 79, but it didn't get its due. There were so many fantastic artists around in those days, those long gone days which will never return.
I have always loved EWF. One of the few bands that when you hear them, you know who it is. September is one of my favorites. Great story about it.
They are so distinct.
Great band. I loved hearing after the love is gone was played on wkrp in Cincinnati.
That song has had some of the best placements.
So the radio is on at my work always, this is one of the songs that brings me to attention and makes me sing along, it is so much a joyful song I can't help myself!
Played this song with a band in Lake Havasu, everyone was dancing didnt matter what age, i love playing this one.
This song and Fantasy are my top two favorite EWF songs. But they have a lot of great tunes. You're so right about this song being so upbeat.
Fantasy is a gem as well.
I am a big fan of 70s R&B hits.
Shining Star is another favorite.
Great song!
Their sole #1 hit and an absolute classic.
How is it possible it wasn't a #1 ? I requested it 100 times and played that album and 45 until I wore them out! Epic song and band!❤❤❤
I got to see them in 2006, I was amazed at how the lead singer still had his voice, he could still hit the high notes. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
Love Earth Wind & Fire. They are one of my favorite R&B groups. They recorded so many great songs during the 1970's and early 1980's. "September"is one of their very best. It is one of the great feel-good, party song, dance hits. Philip Bailey is an incredible singer. He can really hit those high notes. The group's founder Maurice White is very sadly missed.
yeh was telling other viewer was reading uncut few days ago had fred white rip page was drummer for donny hathaway then joined the bros. for mega hits of course maurice was a talented motown drummer when a young man as a studio drummer
I loved Philip Bailey’s singing on the song, “I’ll write a song for you.” Gosh, that was a beautiful song!
EWF is one of the greatest bands of all time, no doubt. Not a bad song by them.
Rod Stewart kept it out of #1. But they are the ones whose music still holds up the most. Yes, I liked Rod when I was young. But EWF still ministers to my soul even 40 years later. Where his might be something I cringe about having liked so much. LOL! Rod Stewart is like looking at old photos and trying to hide a few.
I took my son (around 14 y.o. at the time) to see E, W, & F at a concert with the Roanoke Orchestra about 20 years ago. What a change in his musical appreciation. He listens to everything now. This was a great piece. Thanks!
I had a panic attack while eating in a restaurant years ago. I couldn’t breathe, my chest felt like it was going to cave-in. I was about to ask for emergency services when an EWF song start playing on the restaurant’s satellite radio. It was Fantasy, I think. I just laidback and let White and Bailey’s lyrics and vocals wash over me. My panic symptoms disappeared and I never felt so in touch with music… it’s positive healing power. Thanks soooo much EWF :)
CASEY WOULD BE PROUD OF YA ALWAYS GOOD STUFF
THanks!
Agree!
@@ProfessorofRock For real. You should be syndicated coast to coast. Thanks for carrying the torch on UA-cam - hopefully one day it will be more. You have enough material for killer documentaries - yes, more than one.
RIGHT! I miss Casey Kasem and loved his show. It was a happy day for me, indeed when I found the Professor!
It's like a Kaseem Dejavu.
I once saw EWF and Chicago together. The horn sections were incomperable! I just wanted Tower of Power in there!! Amazing horn sections!
Such a happy song. Even my mom born in 1937 loved this song! ❤️
The truly sad part of the story is we'll never hear music like this ever again.
Makes me wish we could go back!
A nice tie in from the Jackson Browne video from a couple of days ago. Forest Whitaker ( Charles Jefferson) in Fast Times was waiting for Damone to get his EWF tickets. Also from The Ringer, The Kids at Widney High did a nice cover of this. Nice program, prof. Loved this song, and yes, should have been number 1.
It wasn't planned! Cool how it works out sometimes!
@@ProfessorofRock ahhh, we'll give you credit for it anyway.
Cool connection!
Back in 1980 my older brother (4 years) played the best of and I am album. I was 12 at that time and immediately loved September Reasons and Fantasy. He let me play these albums and up until this day I still have them. Listen to EW&F every day. They are my medicine. When I’m feeling good their music and lyrics make me feel happier. When I’m having a bad day or going through hard times they lift me up and make me feel better - on your face - turn into something good. When I need some quit time away from all the loudness there is be ever wonderful- I’ll write a song for you - loves holiday - burnin bush. There’s no pick which song is my favorite or which one I like best. Not possible !!!! All their songs are great. There’s one song that really hits me straight in the heart and sometimes a tear or two rolls over my cheeks - That’s the way of the world. But In the stone - sparkle - devotion - keep your head to the sky - wanne be with you - miracles - you - something special - masquerade to name a few are all masterpieces. I’m so thankful for their uplifting lyrics, uplifting music and positivity. Their music is timeless. September is a big example of that. Young and old everyone has ever heard a song of this great great band with so many talented musicians. The blend between Maurice White and Philip Bailey is beyond !!!!!! And the Phenix Horns man ……. It all comes together to the greatness of their music. Thank you for paying this video to EW&F.
The story of the bad day you were having only to be turned around into one of your greatest memories is inspiring. There are so many people that become victims of their own "bad days" and let that event control how they feel for the rest of that day and possibly several days. Sure there are tragedies and horrific events, but those are different than a simple "bad day". Those simple bad days are just a small insignificant moment in time and we should remember that we can start our day over at any time. There are no rules. Don't let a simple negative event, or person impact your entire day. Brush it off and start over.
Peace ✌️🕊️
They had some tough competition at the time for that no. 1 slot. A lot of great songs at that time.
1979 was a great year!
Shows how varied that year was.
I'm literally wearing the same shirt right now.
Ha ha. Did you go to that show? Meow!
Really?
This channel IS pure nostalgia. Even as I’m watching it today, I can’t help but remember watching this show over these past years. In 3 years I’ve lived in 3 different places & I was struggling a lot. Watching this channel takes me back to those times, from the intro to his voice. Im in a better place now & im still watching this channel.
EWF is fantastic and September is my favorite of their songs. Absolute happiness!
If this song doesn’t make your body move…. 🕺🏼💃🏻
Right?
... somebody better check your pulse! If a person sits still to this, they're dead. ☠
Then you have no soul.
I know this sounds weird, but my dad died in September. So for reasons I can't even understand, it's now his song. Music is weird, I'm weird. Edit, had to add. I remember now. It's the line the 21st Night of September. I was listening to this song about a week after he died. The line hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a bizarre coincidence. It cut me. It left a mark.
I get it!
I think that's a beautiful way to remember your dad! My parents have both been gone for over 20 years, but I love remembering good times with them.
Did anyone else get a lump in their throat and watery eyes when the Professor told his memory of his dad and this music? That was so sweet.
I recently discovered that my funny dad pulled the greatest "dad" joke on me, and it took me more than 50 years to realize it!
When I was a kid in the 1960s, I got my first cat. She was kind of homely, but she acted snooty and regal. She was an alley cat with the soul of a princess. My dad suggested calling her "Princess Pupule", after a song that was popular in Hawaii when he served in the Army there during WWII. I thought it was great, so that was her name.
Last year, I ran across that song on UA-cam, and was so happy that I'd finally get to hear it.
Oh Dad! I was laughing so hard!
"Princess Pupule" was a lady of ill-repute, and this song was too suggestive for mainland radio:
"Princess Pupule has plenty papayas
She loves to give them away
And all of the neighbors they say
Oh me-ya oh my-ya you really should try-ya
A little piece of the Princess Pupule's papayas
Zazza zazza zazza zazza zay
Princess Pupule's not truly unruly
To pass out papayas each day
But all of the neighbors they say
She may give you the fruit but she hang on to the root
And so she has the fruit and the root to boot..."
SO sorry. Hugs 🫂
The fact that you share private moments of your life that relate to the music makes this channel a can't miss. The songs are a part of you. Thank you for being so open and honest with us!
September is one of my favorite songs to sing in karaoke. Thanks for another great story.
Ian Dury and the Blockheads - “Sex and drugs and rock and roll!” (Actually also has interesting meaningfully lyrics)
Yes, great one!
What a great story! Got to see them in the 80's. Almost didn't go, had a crush that went down like the hindenburg. So glad I did.
My absolutely favorite band ever! Grew up listening to The Elements and Johnny Mathis. My kids know and love their songs as well. Gotta raise ‘em right.
My daughter's birthday is Sept 21st. This has been her theme song her whole life. ❤
That song reminds of my first day of H.S. we lived in New York and started school in September. Love this song.
I was five when "September" was a Top Ten hit, and it's my favorite Earth, Wind & Fire song!
Incredible song on all fronts. A lifelong musician, I write, produce and record my own music and a few years ago I tried my best to recreate the groove to "September" on one of my tunes. I made sure the tempo was exactly the same as well as the drum track, etc. The song turned out okay but I also realized that the irresistible feel of "September" just can't be duplicated. It'll never be matched for the uplifting, impossible-to-not-dance-to JOY it conveys. EW&F were and still are untouchable. Thanks for highlighting this number's greatness.
Love EWF and ‘September’ my favourite EWF song takes me back to high school. I’m so looking forward to seeing them in concert this summer.
When this song came on we all ran to the dance floor; their music was so good to dance to. EW&F’s one of my all time favorites. Their music was so special to me. Music in the 80’s was so great with so many great artists. That top 5 billboard count down you shared was very good and they could have been at the top 4-sure. Thanks for all of the inside information you shared concerning the band the lady co-writer on this album. Your research is 2nd-2-none. Peace Out.✌️
EWF HAS ALWAYS BEEN 1 OF MY FAVORITE GROUPS!!! Got to see them in concert B4 Maurice passed away, also touring with them was Chicago. I didn't sit down through the entire concert!! It was GLORIOUS, something I'll never forget!! You can ask any one of my son's "what music reminds you of your mom" & EWF is going to be said by ALL 3!!!
I love this song…even the Pomplamoose version.
When I was going to be a father for the first time, when I heard my daughters due date... it stuck in my brain.... it still stuck in my brain. It was a day of anticipation for me for months... A lot of anxiety and nervousness, a date that signified I am no longer carefree and I have to care for another human. So I could see how that day is so important and private to him..
I hold September 21st as a holiday. I make sure that it is the BEST date night of the year for me and my wife.
Just asked my 23 yo where he knows this song from and his response was..uhh...everywhere? My kids have loved this song since they were young. It's one of those songs they found without me. Both of them love it. The other song they found was Country Roads by John Denver. It's just so happy, it feels like the embodiment of joy. It's the glitter, disco ball, and rainbows of music. Always makes me happy. 🎉
I agree, this should have been a #1 song. It's such a playful song. I love it
Their songs always made me smile and dance or tap my feet.
One of my favorite songs of all time and you're right, when it comes on you can't help but to get happy!!!!!!!
Fantastic song! Fantastic segment! What Great memories this brings back.
Remembering vacationing with buddies in the late 70’s, early 80’s to Fort Lauderdale. There was a club that we would visit there, “SEPTEMBER’S”. Always a GREAT TIME!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Reasons (Live) one of the greatest songs ever! Love EWF! Thanks for focusing on them for this episode. “He plays so beautiful don’t you agree”
I saw EW&F in 1977 at the Oakland Colosseum Arena. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. They were amazing.
