Thanks for this. My husband knows a mechanic who found out we were going to do our own spark plugs on our 2016 Caravan. He asked if we bought gaskets (plenum gaskets) and we didn't. So I've been trying to figure out if it's necessary and all the videos I've seen never talk about replacing the gaskets. Yours is the first one.
The one thing I really hate about working on cars are the ridiculous electrical connectors, you make it seem effortless disconnecting them, I’m on 45 minutes trying to figure out how to get the one off the throttle body, it won’t budge, and I slid the red connector lock forward, I hate connectors.
Great video, just did this with my 2014 Grand Caravan. The bracket in the back was a bit different for me than in the video to get the manifold off but did manage to get it in the end.
Thank you for sharing this video, I have a friend with a 2019 caravan, 3.6, I was a Chrysler Plymouth and Dodge dealer mechanic for years, and I'm not familiar with this engine, now I know what to order, plugs and coil packs, it has a cylinder #2 misfire, probably would be better to just do them all, great job thank you great video!
You make it look easy to remove the intake. Been nervous to try it but after seeing your video going to try it this weekend. Got a miss fire at the second cylinder.
@@jimbocash7324 yes it did. I replaced the coils and plugs. Runs great. Just take your time and understand that you will be spending the day on it. It was a great learning experience and lot of fun.
Do you suggest replacing the plenum gaskets even if the car doesn't have alot of miles? 33,000 miles, I suspect the plugs went bad but I'm not sure if I should replace the gaskets while I have it off? I also don't want to add parts right away. I want to pin down the issue then replace parts incase if the new parts create any problems.
Good tips. I got plenum gaskets approx $30, 6 spark plugs, and luckily just 1 coil pack cylinder 2. About under $180 for sure. I think technically dealership pricings you'd be looking at close to 1k altogether. Runs great now.
Awesome video! Great idea to replace the plenums, might as well! I checked amazon and the plenums come in 2 sets, upper (square type like the ones you replaced) and lower gasket. Is there a lower gasket plenum to replace on the caravan, or is that for another vehicle type? Great video, i cant wait to give this a go on the weekend!
Great video , was wondering what are main causes of misfire cylinder 3.6.pentastar,hit huge pothole and van started shuttering violently while trying to regain speed, jave replaced throttle body positioning sensor, not the problem. Any ideas?
Do you not need to change the spark plug coil, the black housing that covers the spark plug? Or the wire that is connected to that black device? Like in the older 2005 modles that you replace the cable wires along with the spark plugs.
Have 100k miles 2018 caravan. Shouldn’t I also replace coils along with plugs while i have the chance and that said, is there anything else that can be done?
Hi!! I need your help! I just ran codes and it said Plethum Gaskets, ignition coils and spark plugs affecting ..I think 1 and 3....I would do myself but not tall or strong enough....so how much should this cost me if I take it to dealership or other mechanic?? Thx!
Just a quick note on the use of antiseize compounds. Several manufacturers have issued guidance that explicitly states you should not use antiseize on their plugs. Plugs can easily be over-torqued and some compounds can interfere with proper heat transfer from the plug body to the head. Modern zinc-rich coatings have also made antiseize mostly unnecessary. Personally, I "Frank it up" with antiseize. I put that *#!? on everything. But there are definitely situations where it should be avoided.
Did this last night for the wifey's van. Didn't do the spark plugs, kinda forgot how been like a decade. Good VoD on refresh of memory. What's the chemical you put on them again? di-electric grease or something?
I have a misfire on cylinder 5. I swapped cylinders 3 and 5's coils but the problem remains with cylinder 5. The spark plug looks good on a 72k 2014 Caravan. I'm ready to replace the injector, any advice?
@@mechdjango3490 Valve train is very quiet, the idle is a bit rough, when the code pops up its undriveable. The code comes up on a cold engine, hot engine, goes away for days at a time.
I’ve changed all spark plugs and cylinder 1 and 2 keeps misfiring been off and on. Find out the pcv valve not seal so making oil leaking in intake manifold having oil buildup on spark plugs. Now ordering pcv valve see that helps.
Thanks for the advice on the plenum seals. Probably something a lot of people (including mechanics) would miss. Great work.
Not a Good Mechanic

Thank you so much for this video. I was able to fix the van and save a lot of money doing it myself. Keep up the great work.
That's great news!
Excellent tutorial, I was really hesitant to attempt this myself having no clue where to begin. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Thank you for the calm well explained tutorial. Much appreciated. Attempting to do tomorrow in -5 degrees.
Guy you're fresh for days I can't get enough of watching you teach us dummies out here
I so glad you said to replace the plenam gaskets 😊😊😊
Best video ever wish I could’ve seen this one sooner right tools, right angles, right everything
you’re actually showing 🙏👍💡thanks

Replaced the spark plugs, coils and intake manifold gaskets last Saturday. Just as easy as you showed. Thank you for the video.
@@joesevi7513 I hope it goes that easy for me too, I also have a cylinder 2 misfire. Hoping it goes well, I’m changing mine tomorrow.

Good! Rockauto.com has pretty good prices as well.
Did this a couple days ago on my 2015 van. Wasn’t too difficult. I did replace the upper plenum gaskets.
Great work.. Many thanks.

Please do a video on replacing the dreaded oil cooler assembly that fails frequently on this vehicle..
Well done Thank You!!
Are the plugs PRE- GAPPED ?
And about how long did this take?
Thank you, it will help me a lot

you forgot to put the foam back under the intake!
Everyone does LOL.
Aarrrgh Dodge! Why do you hate your costumers? Thanks for the video, i need to do the plugs on my.... 2014.
A mechanic also told my husband that we shouldn't put in NGK laser iridium (what I bought), but only Champion or we'll get misfires. Is that true?
Yes. Champion is the OEM in regards to spark plugs for dodge/ jeep

Why bro so zesty😭
I hate those plastic manifold parts, totally trash for budget cutting purpose only
