My husband also died recently (2022). We had time to prepare for it. Our Pastor taught for weeks on dying grace. This song has always had meaning for the two of us- especially knowing the story behind it. I’m sitting next to my 80yr old mom in a hospital bed in hospice care. I’m playing songs such as this for her. She’ll soon be with our sweet Savior, Jesus. It is well with both our souls. My father was killed suddenly 9 yrs ago so this time with Mom is precious. What an encouraging word from the Lord Winsley gives at 1:20. Thank You, gracious Father for loving us so very deeply. You care about us & every detail of our lives & provide for us in every situation whether we understand it or not. In this world you will have trouble but take heart, Jesus has conquered this world & in Him we really can have peace. I am so moved by this song. Wintley's statement from God is so powerful. I lost my daughter November 10, 2020, and the pain of that loss is so great. With all that being said I can say, "It is well with my soul" Praise His name!!! We will meet again.

I woke up. Decided to pray but while praying the problems that I see and the unfairness at my workplace just overwhelmed me. This song came to me and I typed it in and choosed this man of God. One of the most beautiful moments of my life was 150 people singing this song together at my grandfathers funeral. A painful time, but this song reassured that there is joy and peace through Jesus Christ. In the happy times, it is well, and in the dark times, it is still well.
My father passed yesterday after spending three years practically having to be in bed for most days. The discipline and prayer through many ups and downs was phenomenal. Most of us were around him when he died. We sang this beautiful uplifting song, around his bed after his passing many times over. Prayers to all. I love the story and the song. The Lord had me play this song in Watsonvilee, CA after the 7.1 earthquake that hit that area in 1989. I played it on trumpet at a small church with a lovely sister playing piano accompaniment. Her name was Debbie Beleu. We were teaching at Monte Vista Christian School. I lost my husband of 43 yrs almost 8 yrs ago but I praised God for His gift and suddenly at the foot of the bed on my husband's side I saw what appeared to be a smoke like figure of a giant angel. Lost my husband during the night. God sent His angel to take him home to be in his new home in heaven.

Been a cancer survivor for the last 20 years, and, my wife died recently battling breast cancer... The struggle of losing the person whom I've been with for 26 years and 7 months as my "Best Gift from my Heavenly Father" was a crushing blow I would not have survived without His manifold graces. In the din of the night when all it seems were lost, God will uphold me assuring me of His presence through His gentle tough. I would cry a river each time both for my grief of losing her and the joy of being with her again in that beautiful Heavenly place; UNTIL THEN, my HOPE is anchored firmly on the resurrection of my Lord Jesus Christ.

At my 7yr old daughters bed siide as she lay there dead I looked at the chaplain in the hospital and responded to her w tears in my eyes these three words "it is well" it may hurt and it may be painful but no matter what it is well w my soul. I sit here today after a few years of physical difficulties. Through Cancer, COPD and heartattacks, God has been there. Now I am diagnosted with a hiatal hernia! No big deal. He will handle it as well. As long as He has a job for me to do. Till He calls me home. It is well with my soul.

Every couple of years I journey back to this video. This was the first song I ever heard Wintley Phipps sing. I was quickly drawn in by his commanding voice. I'm so glad I found him. He has one of the richest singing voices I've ever heard and 4:44 gets me every time. I hear the deep sorrow and deeper joy he carries within.

I really hoped this would be my transformative year, I had such high hopes only to lose the most the most important person in my life. Makes me think, if God really loves me because every single time I become intentional with something, it turns out the complete opposite.
My heart is really broken and I don’t know how I’m supposed to continue without my mum. She was everything to me and she was in all my plans and dreams.
Is God really true and faithful? My mum was a servant of the faith and I don’t know why God would take her at 45, barely at the pinnacle of her life.

My house burned down 2 days ago and I heard this song. It calmed my heart and encouraged me. God is still in control and is taking care of me. I lost everything in the house but my pets are OK. God is good and I am trusting Him for my future.

Thank you for your kindness. The house contents can be replaced but my families pictures can not be replaced. I lost all my children’s baby pictures, school pictures, wedding photos, every picture. PLEASE divide your treasured pictures in half and put them somewhere else so if your house burns you can at least have irreplaceable treasured pictures.

God recently put on my heart prophecies for a revival in Royston ( Herts UK) where I am working but I had to endure one of the most difficult times in my life whilst here. Most of my dream came when I was at my lowest and I could never understand why God let it happen to me at the same time as he was sending me visions. I was drawn in prayer to this song and thought it was the lyrics in it that the Lord wanted for me. If you really listen to Whintley's version of this hymn, you can feel what the father who wrote this felt as he crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the exact same spot where his four daughters had perished on an ocean liner. Very talented singer but, This is one of those hymns that cannot be skipped from the first to the last verse. Those middle verses are truly the most inspired by the Spirit of God.
There is nothing more moving than listening to God's words being sung as a witness to His everlasting love.

Wow what a powerful voice. I can really feel the goodness and the joy of the Lord. I am going through another crisis in my relationship and was feeling very weary the last 2 days. So many times already have I suffered sadness and despair because of the evil tongue which is my partner, so full of hatred and negativity, it weighs heavy on my soul. Then this clip shows up out of nowhere and I must say , nonetheless nothing is solved yet, I am singing along" everything is well with my soul". Please can I ask somebody to pray also for me that all turns out well with my boyfriend. His name is Luke and I am praying his behavior and health improves soon. Thank you. I saw this man sung live in Jamaica. I was there to witness his voice. It was so powerful, the church turned into an echo box, his voice and vocals were so powerful. First time I ever witnessed a professional gospel singer. This was in the 1990's.
God has his own way of giving you what you need. This video really spoke to me tears flowing down my face. I so needed to hear It is well!!! Continue letting God use you to encourage because this really blessed me!!!!

Omg after searching for songs to comfort me after loosing my best friend who just got laid to rest yesterday , I hv never felt so heartbroken like this in my life, I came across this song and hv been playing it the whole day, it is well with my soul, I wish I can bring her bk bcz of her kids, too young to be left without a mother.

My mentor has me reading the lyrics and the story behind hymns, every two weeks. As I read the story behind this song I could just see the hand of God moving and how in one mans tragic events He brought us a song that would comfort so many. As I read the comments here I see His hand at work.

I must praise God to many blessings to even count . My precious husband went home with God in 2014 after fighting lung cancer for 4 years it was our 39 the year of marriage . I am so thankful for the blessing of being his wife .I will see him again thank God.
I first saw this video 5 years ago when i was going through a trying time in my life... those words at minutes 1:24 have since stayed with me and has ever since been an encouragement to me. Thank you God for tests that always become a testimony
Kayrah B Dearest Kayrah, I rejoice with you that you found comfort and peace and strength after experiencing a difficult situation. Having struggled with family problems which seemed to have no solutions or assistants, I was stretched as tight as a piano string and felt absolutely hopeless. My elderly parents needed all the assistance I could provide,, groceries, meds., doctor appointments, trips to the banks, laundry and bathing which was complicated by the old failing water lines from the water meter to the house, Several plumbers came to estimate but no one really wanted to work on old plumbing in an old house.
I understand why... it necessitates replacing all the water supply lines and faucets, and would really be a tough job.there was not enough water pressure to get enough water for flushing a toilet. With Daddy so seriously ill, we needed running water to not only flush, but bathe, do laundry, cook and clean up.. Plie as this was not enough, the Rotor Rooter man discovered that the sewer pipe draining from the house thru the back yard and on out to the City Sewer Main
Drain was collapsed and no waste water was going anywhere until we contacted the Official Superintendent of Water and Sewer and until he came to the location to inspect, we were stuck--- later it was disclosed that those 48" clay sewer pipes had been collapsing years ago but the city ignored improving it.
Keep in mind that all this time I was on the phone (on hold with that horrible racket that is forced upon the caller) trying to schedule medical appointments,
dental, get enough groceries for each day, be certain Daddy was getting the correct medicines at the right time, trying to keep Mother as well as possible.
My home is about twenty minutes away and after I dealt with all problems I could at my beloved parents house, I had to go home to my 5 amazing and loving rescue dogs( they picked us to share their lives with, and we loved every minute we had with them. Feed them, give them their meds, and make some effort at fixing supper for my husband and myself.
In attempt to relieve Daddy of the dust and noise and stress created by strangers entering and leaving at any time of day, daddy's Doctor arranged to admit him at his Rehabilitation -Health Services ....run some of the tests there that we had been,scheduled to drive out to his office to have done. The plumbers could work and complete their job in a couple of days, while the sewer line from the house was replaced and of course the esteemed City of certainly promised to dig out the dilapidated, collapsed sewer drain and replace with new ones, connecting to the drain from the house, the house would have all new water lines and faucets, and the water supply line. from the City of ? Water Meter newly replaced water meter would have been connected. Everybody was going to work together and do what they contracted to do. Hallelujah! Starting tomorrow.
I drove Daddy and Mother to the Nursing Home; no sooner had we tucked him in bed, he noticed it was getting late in the afternoon, (and he always wanted his ladies safely off the roads after dark, at home.) and asked me to take Mother home, and me to go home,too. We'd bring a sandwich and have lunch with him tomorrow. We were cautiously optimistic.and left after a big batch of hugs and kisses.
It was the last night of my Daddy's life! I was called early in the next morning by the doctor and informed. How could I deliver this devastating, live changing heartbreaking news to my precious mother who had been his cherished wife over 60 years? They were inseparable, what would one do without the other?
I don't remember much of what was done in the days that followed. Daddy was an expert machinist and men came from all over the country to meet Mother and offer words of praise about Daddy's work. His company got government contracts for space, military, oil, coal, and gas exploration equipment, Some components had not even been designed and or tested yet. Daddy had the curiosity of an inventor, the spirit of an engineer, and the educational background in machining, metallurgy, science, physics, blueprint making, and could design whatever was needed. He didn't work entirely alone, he had a helper named Walter, who helped set up the blocks or shafts, and kept the floor cleared of the metal shavings and oils and cutting compounds which could cause a serious accident. Daddy appreciated everything that Walter did.
We were thankful that the co workers and other contractors took time to share some words of admiration and respect for my Mothers husband and my Daddy. Mother never recovered from this grievous loss, and slipped into a mental detachment from reality, it seems to me that we lost two people when Daddy died, but Mother was gently laid to rest beside him six years later on a beautiful October Sunday afternoon. I will join them someday.
So each time I hear and of sing the amazing hymn 'It Is Well', I find myself comforted and calmed, as I'm sure so many others do. I especially appreciate the introductory comments before Wesley sings it so beautifully. Aren't we blessed? It IS well, thanks be to God.
Didn't intend to go on and on so. Sorry if I was boring. My point is: Whatever, Whereever, Whenever, you are troubled God is with you, You can rely on Him!
