I think I did better work building a treehouse as a young child than they did with this mess. It’s amazing everything is still holding on. Especially as the house has stood for so long in tropical storms and hurricanes. Great detective work. Many would not even look that deeply honestly. That house will stand for centuries after you are done. Great job saving history my dear ❤️
“I’m a Pole Dancer”, you need to get that on a T shirt, you made me laugh so hard after a day in the office. Thank-you. I really appreciate your explanations and find the physics addictive,( I think I’m a nerd) Between termites and shoddy 1920’s workmanship, every step is like dropping into Alice’s rabbit hole!
Some pretty sketchy logic used when they cut up the supports in that area. Great that you're catching it and will, no doubt come up with a solid solution to it all. If you weren't planning on taking the ceiling down, and you are planning on having the roof done, could you remove part of the roof tiles and boards and get those big beams in from the outside? Really love your videos.
Thanks for watching. This area was such a mess. We were able to work out a solution, but it was a tight fit. I have to admit that we fixed 90% of the problems and moved on to something else. It was getting to be summer and just too hot to be in the attic for a day at a time. I need to get back in there and make a work plan to get this finished before I forget about it.
Good grief, what were those people thinking? I guess people back in the day cut corners just like some shady contractors do today. Some things never change. Good work finding all of that. I always worry when I see you crawling around--it always looks so unsafe!
There are all kinds of scary pictures on the internet of things people find like this. This one was pretty bad. And don't worry, I try to be very careful.
This old wood is so strong, and everything is tongue and groove so I think it's just woven together. It is scary when you combine all the issues like the termites and the rot and think about what could have happened in another year or two. I really think this house was on the verge of something bad happening.
That attic was a big mess. Thank goodness this house is so well built that no serious damage happened. It's still good to get it fixed and not worry about it.
A lot of pipes went through there. Will you have to use the same space to replumb the bathroom? It's great to hear the tile can stay. I just love the old hex tile with patterns. 🥰❤️🤍💙
We will put the pipes back in the same area but we will work around the framing instead of cutting through it. Honestly, there was one huge pipe that we never could figure out why it was there. My contractor Robert, who does a lot of plumbing work for me in Houston, and I spent a good two hours in there one day tracing pipes and we were very confused by what they did. The old cast iron pipe used is also much larger than current code for pvc drains. I was beyond excited to learn that the tile would not have to be taken up.
Oh man!!! This makes me want to cry but, thank goodness you found it!!
Is was so bad. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.
It still amazes me that you squeeze yourself into those tight spaces!
It's funny because I never was very limber.
What a mess they left up there. great update 👍👍
Thanks 👍 This whole house is a mess, but it's getting better.

I bet you had a great treehouse. I've looked everywhere I can in this house many times over and I still spot new things. I am always amazed.
You just make me chuckle. Your an amazing woman and I applaud you. 👏👏👏
I'm not sure what I did to make you laugh but I'll take it as a compliment. 😀
Wow that’s is a mess! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for another fine video.
Our pleasure!😀
I can't believe that house is still standing! What were they thinking! Who built that addition? The kids next door?
Perhaps it was the prototype for Jenga?
It's crazy what you find when redoing old houses. This is one of the worst I've seen.
Jenga on a grand scale.
😳 Wow!
I know.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
You're the best!
Wow what a mess. Will be interesting to see how this work will go.
It will be a process, just like everything else. I'm just so happy that the bathroom floor is okay.

Nerd power!!!!

Tie rod w/square bolts...done a long time ago
I haven't been able to decide if it is original to the house or to the 1920 remodel. I'm thinking it is original to the house in 1893.
Original for sure
Ohhhh scary! You really are a sleuth, but you always have a solution 😊. Take care. Isabelle
It's like playing a puzzle game.
...and that is why plumbers should not do carpentry!
Amen.
Good grief! This house is only standing because it's an old habit! There's almost no mechanical reason for the place to be upright!

the 4 big structural issues: wood, brick, steel, everything else 🤣
This house sure has them all. Especially the everything else.😉

It's a history of technology in that house all wrapped up into one. You've got a great idea to have some of the contraptions on display. 🔌🪖🪟
I'm thinking of using part of the basement to house some of these things.
