Leah, you're a living legend. Have been throwing those cans away for as long as I can remember. Once again, you've taught another old dog a new trick. 1 Million Subscribers! Holy Mackerel, that proves that you are helping the world. Blessings to you!
People are thinking this will lead to fewer sales. Well, this is going to make me buy and use it more often. The whole "once you've started a can, you have to pitch what you don't use" has kept me from using it!
I worked in various construction trades for 25 years, and now, as a maintenance person at a hospital for the last 7. This is the first time I've seen anyone do this. An old dog learned a new and very useful trick today. Thanks, Jane! 👍
Spray foam dissolves in acetone so cleaning it is actually really easy. The straw can be rinsed out and reused. And believe it or not, it actually says that on the can. Only took me 20 years, of building, to get to it on my reading list. Smh
I'm a sharp handyman now days , a journeyman level plumber in the olden days , have done MANY things but will try this New trick . Thanks for this info .. NICE
How much better for the environment if all that unused product doesn't just get wasted, not to mention the money each of us won't be throwing away. I live in an older rental house and I wind up re-sealing a number of small holes in the old vinyl siding every few months to keep bugs and critters out. This is some dang useful info for me, so thanks, and I'm now subbed.
Really? Thousands? Literally? If you used that much foam you should be using a professional gun applicator that you close after each use. Literally THOUSANDS 😂😂😂
I've always just unscrewed the straw from the can and poured acetone down it until clear. This is way easier and less messy. So I'm going to keep doing it my way because I like being difficult and messy. YOU'RE NOT MY BOSS LEAH!!!
@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 this is a big day for you! Im so excited. Let me be the to introduce you to the concept of qtips. They will change your life.
Love you Leah❤. We’ve been chatting for so many years I can’t believe it’s been that long. I continue to grow and learn from you at sixty eight years old. You’re an amazing person ❤.
I love spray foam. It's been a game changer for many unusual projects when you don't know what else to do with a gaping hole, including concrete steps that mud pours out of the bottom and you don't have the money to fix. I thought this was a trick I missed because you can clearly see that instruction on the back of her can. I had to search it out and found pictures of the old cans. This is a new added feature. I've even tried a nail in the end of the straw in the past and it didn't work for me. Many wasted partial cans. Thank you, Leah!
I think they show this on the back of the can. I always thought it was to but you a couple hours at the most. Never thought it would make it reusable 3 weeks later especially since they sell a “reusable” spray foam too. Glad I know this works now. I’ve thrown out so much foam in the past.
Leah, I have a can of this, I also have 2 jobs waiting... I was waiting for 1 or 2 more jobs before I opened the can. Now I don't have to wait. God bless and thank you!
I love ALL of your videos Leah! Some of the things I already know. Others, I learn great and valuable info for other things. Thank you soo much for helping all of us! ❤
All I can say is WOW Leah, you’re always loaded with valuable information! I’ve tossed away many cans due to I didn’t want to deal with the full straw.
Just got the specialty version a couple of days ago with the special nozzle that allows extended time between uses. Also...it cost more than twice as much. Now...I'm going back to the less expensive can. Thank you!
Years and years and years i have been following you as you are always spot on and this tip is no exception. Saying hi from the Sonoran Desert of Arizona 🌵
i always clean the tube and trigger with finger nail polish remover. This is a great tip, I never knew. I will be trying your method next time. Thanks Jane
Wow! I don't use expanding foam very often, so it's one project and done when I do. I had no idea about this trick. Definitely will use this next time. Thank you!
You have GOT to be kidding me! I literally just threw out a can this morning after a small project! I wish I had seen this before! 😭 Amazing tip, Leah!
After use, I unscrew the straw and spray carb cleaner through the straw and the can nozzle. A few seconds of acetone dissolves the uncured foam. Nozzle and straw are good as new.
This is great. I've been cleaning out the straw by putting it on a can of (automotive) Brake -Kleen and blasting it clear. Also, when you are working with foam and don't want it to foam out of place you can put some wax paper over it and scush it in place. I mostly use the low power stuff made for doors and windows. For instance, I used it on a shower insert. I sprayed it behind the soap dishes to give the shower walls more rigidity. The wax paper trick kept me from having to trim the cured foam.
Been using the Brake cleaner trick for about 15 years. Our office charges Great Stuff as a full can on every job where we use it, so that's an excellent money maker right there. Brake cleaner is maybe $3 a can and we carry it on the truck anyway. Only takes 25 cents worth to clean everything and makes the company an extra $10!
This is pretty nifty, I didn’t know about it. What I have done in the past is clean the straw and the top of the can with acetone but this is a great idea too. Good vid.
That's brilliant! Thanks so much!! I have a couple small jobs that I've been delaying until I could coordinate doing them at the same time so I could use the same can. I had no idea you could do that!!! Now I can get each job done when the weather allows.
Thank You! Like everything since 1-20-20 all material, like Great Stuff have also increased30-45%….saving money on any job or home project is critical. You are the first person to have a method to do this! Very appreciated!
This does work. I read it in the fine print on one can I had. Checked on another brand, didn't say anything, however, it did have the place to put the straw. I have found though, that it didn't work after a couple months. Worked fine though right around a month later. Great Leah that you're letting people know about this.
Leah, your knowledge amazes me! To think of the stuff I’ve thrown away! How did this become your niche in life? I’m glad it did and I’m glad I found you! Congrats on 1 mill! Hoping for the next mill! People don’t what they are missing!
And this right here is why you have a million+ subs! I've been an engineer for nearly 20 years and consider myself to be a pretty solid DIYer, yet just about every week I learn something new from this channel. Its almost laughable at this point :)
Great trick! Carburetor cleaner will dissolve expanding foam. So if you cave a clogged tube, (wear goggles) spray a little in each end, let it soak in, spray some more, etc. Couple rounds of that and it’ll open up, maybe hose it out from one side, a little compressed air, good as new!
As a broke single Mom with 3 kids (no child support) I was lucky I did own a house but could never hire someone so I had to do it all, plumbing, electrical, etc and it's channels like this one that saved my butt time and time again! So you have my sincere thanks!!
Dang! I just tossed a can of that for exactly this reason. I read the label 4 or 5 times and I didn’t see anything in there about saving the foam. I won’t make that mistake again!! Thanks, Leah!

Awesome!!! I have put off opening a can until I had more areas to do and then went back to do it all on the same day so I didn't end up wasting the can. Never knew about this.
If you're speaking of sueing her, why would they? What would be the basis of their lawsuit? If it's for loss of earnings because she's taught people how to save money a judge would dismiss the claim. It's no different than showing people how save money by saving paint.
@@nuthinbutlove The OP was facetiously exaggerating the fact that so many people will now save money with this tip that it will negatively impact the foam sellers. That comment is not meant to be taken literally.
One lesson I learned. My neighborhood box store had a big sale on spray foam. So I stocked up. When the time came to use some, not a single one worked. I learned check the “use by” date on the cans!
I can't count how many half filled cans of foam I've thrown away and never knew about this. Thanks so much. Keep making your videos you're one of the best.

I agree. I refused to buy them again since they were such a waste of money. Like...who uses a whole can at one time!
It doesn't matter if it leads to fewer sales
Spray foam is not only a necessity but a requirement in the trades, they're not worried about some DIYers making a can or two last a little longer..
@@billrowan1957 - Correct you are!
Probably fewer sales but then they jack up the price accordingly.
