They would sing in the school's restroom and on the street corners in front of businesses. If you like this format, you would also enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Lion Sleeps Tonight" and the minis/shorts on their channel as those are frequently film at this mall early in the morning before the stores open. Geoff recently released his Christmas video on his solo channel, "Carol Of The Bells", and it is blowing reactors away as it is amazing!

Immediately to the right of the boys is the front door of Pattycake studios. VoicePlay have performed in that spot loads of times and I have also always wondered why they don't have a large audience watching them, yet shoppers walk by as if they don't exist. It must be old hat to them by this stage I suppose. Anyway, it was the second time we saw Mykal and that lad can certainly sing! Thank you for the great reaction: I was looking forward to this one.
Actually it was the 3rd. He was in their compilation song back in 2020- Just Sing, and then just recently in Be Prepared. Also, have you seen him in this year's Miscast? He did an absolutely spectacular job. You've got to see it! Just search for Miscast 2024 and his name.
This mall is where Pattycake Productions is located, and apparently it's got a lot of empty stores these days (COVID did a number on it, I think). And this is also where VP films most of their shorts/minis, so regulars at the mall are probably used to seeing them set up like this. This format was like their minis because Mykal had a plane to catch and was limited on time, and this is a fairly "fast and dirty" way to film a video, something they've done a number of times and know how to do very well. But it was nice to see and hear Layne being able to sing for most of the video, before moving into beatboxing - always a treat to hear him singing these days, since he doesn't do it that often in their videos. BTS tidbit: Mykal, Eli, and Cesar had to stand on crates when they were in the back row, in order to match up in height to Geoff and Layne!
Thanks for your reaction to VoicePlay's November release. As a founding member from their very early days, Mykal was the perfect collaborator for this one. Apparently, they used to sing this one when he was in the group. A lovely song with a beautiful message about true friendship.

I doubt that they would play it full volume, and there may be gawkers off camera. If I lived in the area, I would hang out at the mall every morning just to try to watch them in production. They film almost all of their shorts/minis at this mall. This was such a sweet rendition!
