@@wutinthegreat8663 nah i think hes specifically referring to his use of a 'crab claw' like picking style, almost like hes playing a guitar. fingerpicking on bass tends to just be two fingers with the hand resting above all strings i think

Reality is stranger than fiction. I was sure they would be an orchestra section & at least two female singers. Nope. All this sound is coming from a 4 man band. Impressed!
Yeah, on the studio version, he sings this song in falsetto, so it's easy to mistake for a female. He uses his full voice during the live performance. It's great both ways, really. I just discovered this song so it's still fresh and enjoyable for me.
The keyboard-string intro is absolutely heavenly. The bass, the guitar solo, the vocal melody...this is a near perfect song.

As much as I dig the version I think they sounded/ were mixed way better in the WFUV live version. His voice is night n day compared to this KEXP version just my opinion
@@Josh-ky8eisometimes he’s just kind of off but some of his songs seem hard to sing consistently
really enjoying that Ruban is exposing more of his voice instead of (usually) burying it with reverb and distortion in the new releases. I've always enjoyed his singing

What does reverb mean ?
He is really good at singing but I prefer the reverb on hunnybee. Also American guilt.
Janet Kelly think about being in a big room with no furniture. If you drop something heavy on the floor in that room it will make a big bang. However, that big bang will be followed by an ambience of that sound fading away. That is reverb. Very popular music production technique.
@@janetkellysucks think of sound that takes a bit to dissipate. Not necessarily echo, but takes a bit to die down. Imagine a big warehouse and you shout in it.
The way the bass and the guitar interact with each other is amazing
Dude that snare layered with the tambourine is easily the best part of this performance. It's super pronounced and carries the song essentially
It's very appropriate for the context of the music video which is a train chug chuggin along. Good ear!

i'd disagree. the vocal melody follows the guitar very closely, and I think he's playing D shaped chords just sliding them around the neck, at least in the verses
I'd agree for that for the most part, put the picking tempo is very fluid and interchanges between being simultaneous with the beat, then diverting from such, making singing along with the beat purely a tedious task, but doable if you practise it a lot.
