The guy became everything he mocked, because deep down he wanted to be mainstream all along.

he became Don Imus. which is funny considering how he spoke of Imus.
Everyone grows
He was ALWAYS that guy. Just stopped hiding it as he got older.
"While sitting in my Hamptons mansion, I put Post-Its all around me of how everyone else should be working harder, so that I can buy more mansions."
Basically...
You do realize it’s called the Howard Stern Show. He should be the richest because besides Robin the show wouldn’t work without him. Anyone else isn’t necessary.
@@1984isnotamanual You missed my whole point. It's the hypocrisy. It's fine if HOWARD is an obsessed workaholic. He had a vision, a plan, he toiled for years to see it come to fruition. It's fucking bullshit to demand the same level of obsession and dedication from everyone around you, knowing that only YOU will reap the lion's share of the rewards. Where is Howard's staff now that he's basically a 4-man show after COVID (Howard, Robin, Fred, Gary)? Most of them are gone from the show, working common 9-5 jobs. Watch the updates from the Stern staff. Howard's rise didn't take any of the Stern show staff with him. Only the main 4 ever got well compensated.
@@bobafeet1234 so you are for half assing your job? He wanted them to work hard because HTV and News got let go soon after so he was trying to save there jobs. Howard has been just as good, actually better as a rrich boss. Richard and Sale still work there. Jason and will do. They have new people. It’s not fucking Howard’s job to set everyone up for life. That’s their job. Are you a fucking communist or something? They should all get equal pay even though Howard (and to an extent Robin) are the ONLY people who without the show doesn’t go on.
@@bobafeet1234 every who works for that show is obsessed with it. He wants to channel their energy into getting better guests because he was moving away from the porn star era. He wanted to save the News and HTVs jobs. They were let go not long after this talk so he was trying to help them save there jobs by getting them involved in the new direction. And so what if people who left have 9-5 jobs. Should it be Howard’s job to set everyone up for life?
This has less to do with making more money and was more just an attempt to re-brand himself. Howard hated his reputation and wanted to be taken more seriously. He longed to fit in better with his hip Hollywood friends.
Howard is still the teenager that longs to sit at the cool kids table during lunch.

This was 11 years ago and he still makes a million dollars a day.
@@frankv8407 😂 ur joking right? He's no where near as impactful and relevant as he was before he became PC. No one under 30 even knows who Howard is 😅 he chose to play it safe and literally abandon everything and everyone that brought him such great success. Now, at 90 years old, he does a show for a handful of elites at around half the price 😂 He can afford the pay cut considering he canned more than half the original staff. It's just crazy how people can see this delusional rambling and still defend it. Go watch the video of Howard shit talking Don Imus and his young wife many years ago, Howard is literally describing himself at this point. @@timburr4453 He's worth over half a billion dollars and interviewed the president a few weeks back. That's a good kind of irrelevant to be.
Ex Fan here. Listened to this guy for 20 years and bought every word. I feel cheated.
I don't know that I would go so far as to feel cheated, but I find it really interesting that HS was always adamant about not going after guests. That he would never go begging for people to be on the show. That he was above that. That he wouldn't grovel for appearances. That publicists and stars would come to him if they wanted on the show. And this video completely undermines that impression.
Clearly they've been going after guests all along, and he felt the need to ramp up that effort even more in 2013. I mean, I get it. This is a business, with a tremendous financial investment, and a business predicated on solid guests (once he pivoted off throwing bologna on mayonnaise covered asses LOL!). But it is certainly eye-opening to see him rant like this to his staff, presumably unaware that anyone was recording with the intent to release.

Guys the minute he became friends with Kimmel it was over.
Kimmel is a hackneyed, unfunny leech.
He leeched off of Adam Corollas talent to gain popularity with "The Man Show", then he started following Howard around until he was able to get his leech lips right on the outside of his touch-hole... and leeching off of Howard's fame and success eventually landed Jimmy right where an unfunny guy like him can be most successful...

At this point, Stern belongs right up there with 'em.
Without the FCC being there to censor Stern, he decided to start censoring his own show and its more extreme than the FCC ever was.
Well said
@Aireck...great point. Part of what made radio howard funny was how he fought the system, how they had to invent words and phrases to describe things the FCC didn't't approve of. Without that antagonist howard spiraled downward and had no enemy except his own mind.
What does he censor on his show?

Wow. This is the douchiest thing I've ever seen Howard do. What's sad is that this summit didn't help anything, in fact this is about the time it starting going sideways.
He could have saved himself and retired.
I was dating a girl in 2013 that was a CPA that was close to Sirius radios finances, and we had some very confidential pillow talk about Sirius big financial problems. Sirius reached a point where they determined radio was not going to be another media that a majority of Americans would be paying a monthly fee for, like Americas did with Cable television and it changed the focus of the Sirius financiers. In 2008 we had a major recession and Sirius radio spent that following five years treading water before trying to make it back to shore. Since most Americans we're doing horribly financially, the first thing to cancel was Sirius radio. A bigger problem that happened was that it was a time when everybody and everything was cutting back and even if you had the disposable income to afford a monthly luxury item like Sirius, it was actually out of style to do so. Sirius felt the full force of this negative financial change and Howard knew that if something wasn't done quickly he was going to be ending his career with shame and failure with only himself to blame because of all of the changes and decisions he made prior, and this is what bothered him the most, my source informed me. During his speech you can sense the panic, and he actually slips up and saids, if this doesn't work, you’ll all be looking for a job.
Makes sense. Didn't take long for 70% of the people in that room to not longer be employed at the HSS.

Hearing Howard break down his strategy to getting more of a gay audience is wild. It’s the perfect example of corporations using the gay audience to bring in numbers/money. When they represent for pride month. Then Howard goes “Hey googly eye mike, you’re gay, go out there and get the other gays for us!” I am straight but even seeing this makes me do a double take in complete amazement.

This is interesting. 2021, and Tom Cruise still hasn't appeared on the show. I watched for over 20 years and the Artie years were the best! The show is now a shadow of what it once was and I finally cancelled my subscription this year because I had stopped listening. It's all whack-pack (pretty much gross), Ronnie, Jimmy Kimmel, Alec Baldwin, and cats, mixed with hate-fueled rants about Republicans or Covid. No thanks - I can get that on mainstream media. No more News with Robin (sad). It was funniest when Howard, Robin and Fred, (Artie) bantered about everything under the sun. They were at times, hysterical back in the day, and got me through some tough times, so I'll always appreciate that about The Howard Stern Show with Howard, Robin and Fred regardless, xxo.

Why not get a straight haired wig?
He doesn’t have naturally straight hair. He used to get a blow out. Look at his pics when he was really young. He had curls.
As I believe Tim S. once mentioned, the HSS had an unwritten formula that made it so great. Howard was simply a moderator amongst the office staff, Robin, Fred, comics, callers. Sure some content was "manufactured", but the best parts of the show were just stupid interesting things happening that Howard would decide to latch onto (at least from the audience's perspective). The fact that it didn't seem structured and tightly organized was what everyone enjoyed. Artie or Benjy could stumble into the studio late, Howard entertained it. Scott S. didn't test a mic, let's spend 15 minutes on that. Riley calling to bitch for an hour about a contract, Howard entertained all of it. And this is basically saying throw all of that in the dumpster and light it on fire like it did nothing for him or his staff. Absolutely insane.
Very astutely put.
Howard was never a "funny guy"... though he has had his moments over 40 years...
He was more of a moderator... or wrangler... or coach of a team full of GENUINELY funny people.
When THAT dynamic left the show, so did 75% the comedy... all we had left were Sal and Richard's prank calls and bits.
And those two remain literally the ONLY funny members of the staff to this very day.

The last time I ever listened to Howard, I remember him making fun of people with podcasts, vlogs, etc. He is like the mainstream media, slowly dying then and now only the most hardcore fans even give a crap. Someone took a shot at him for wearing blackface in the Butt Bongo Fiesta special from years ago, and then he released a blanket statement apologizing and explaining he was just an angry person then- I started thinking about it and that was so tame compared to other stuff he did/ said that I realized he planted that- he had someone come out with something offensive but tame so he could apologize before someone put out something REALLY bad- like when they came dangerously close to sexual assault with a girl that wouldn't get naked after her brother lost Stump the Booey- I saw a video of that (on his E show) and I had to stop watching it was so uncomfortable

To be fair to Howard, this was well after Smashing Pumpkins, he did have a point. Billy Corgan’s “Madame Zuzu” thing was going nowhere, he fumbled the bag on the previous Pumpkins record (Oceania, I believe), and he had sortof fallen off the radar. Stern did help him get a little attention, but his interview on Stern showed him he could do well on the interview circuit again, and he started hitting more shows to talk about his dad and his wrestling obsession. Since then he’s been a regular guest on Rogan but he’s on Stern even when he has nothing to promote these days.
@@DamienLavizzo oh I didn’t know he was talking about billy corgan solo. I thought in general he was saying that the band itself should credit him
It isn't that he didn't have a vision or was not a businessman, the problem is the change in direction and switch of his persona - it wasn't growth but a revealing of a man who still wanted to be part of the in crowd.

Howard teaches the staff how to say wNNNNNNNbc
Around the 35-minute mark, Howard asks High-Pitch Mike to use his passion for gay issues to attract homosexual celebrities to the show. That’s insane, and he’s reducing Mike to his sexual orientation. That’s like asking an employee who is black to work on getting rap stars on the show. Unbelievably offensive. I’m sure Mike doesn’t want to feel responsible for getting homosexual guests; he has more to offer his boss than his sexual orientation. Poor form, Howard, poor form.
Its funny too cause he fired Mike and the whole news team later if I understand correctly. So I guess he wanted to use him and then just discard him later

Thank you, my friend. Great audio and video.
Howard should have given it up years ago. He’s officially a has-been. I think Howard enjoyed success for so long that he became convinced anything he touches turns to gold. His show no longer offers people anything they can’t easily find elsewhere. When I listened to HS on a daily basis, it wasn’t just for him. Rather it was for the entire circus and cast of characters. These days it’s just him, Robin and a few others. People didn’t listen to Howard just for him, rather for the entire circus which packed up and left town long ago. Basically, it’s a total bore. Finally, part of Howard’s appeal on terrestrial radio was his underdog persona. He was always fighting with his radio station and other radio stations. He was always fighting back against the FCC and trying to stick it to the man. These days, Howard is the man. He’s become everything he hated. I don’t see how he’s still on the air anywhere. He’s over.
He's censored himself and became worst than than the FCC. It used to be an organic show for the most...he has become what he always despised.
Howard was always the least interesting (besides Robin of course) person in the studio in my opinion. The current incarnation of the show supports this he is a boring dude who knows how to stir shit only he doesn't stir shit anymore so he's just boring.

Whatever your opinion of Howard is, you have to admit he is right about all of this. The dorm room/frat boy atmosphere and hour long segments joking with/making fun of disabled people was cutting edge and different a couple decades ago, but it's played out and not really going to fly these days anymore. Howard is just trying to class it up.
It's actually kind of surprising he wasn't doing a lot of this stuff already, especially when he was really big. Most of it is common sense.
Howard wanted to interview A List celebrities. He knew he would have to clean up his act (become P.C.) to do it, so he wouldn't scare them away. And he did it. He loves that he's being accepted in Hollywood and by A List celebrities. It cost him a lot of fans and he knew it would. But he did it anyway, because that's what he wanted. To be taken as a serious interviewer is his dream come true.
"and now Jimmy's always sitting on my desk because I like to remind myself that I have A List celebrity friends." 🙄
Ok, but who cares? Like you said, he wanted to because respected as an interviewer and obviously is working his ass off for that. No one's required to listen to him, though. If someone's not interested in him or finds him to be boring and stupid then they don't have to listen. He's still very popular regardless but, again, who cares?
You know you could hire someone to get A plus celebrity's to come on the show right? There is a reason why companies don't expect the entry level employee to do that for free.
Howie wants to give a self-aggrandizing speech for an hour, then rush into a basement and hide.
This "correct way to do something" that you speak of, requires him to work. Overruled.
This whole presentation is one big threat. Sounds like it truly was the ‘coolest place to work’
Listen to O&A talk about what it was like working at Sirius with Howard. He shut down hallways when he walked down them so nobody would be in the hallway with him. They also said everyone looked miserable going up to his floor.
Howard teaching his staff how to say the call letters properly WNNNNNNNNNBC
The making the fake twitter accounts part was crazy coming from Howard 🤣 like wtf lol
I mean this shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody with an I.q. above 105. Did you really think Howard was the guy he pretended to be? The perm, the cranberry juice, the chess, the early bedtime, the constant complaining, the hypochondria 😂. He was always an old juwish lady. He needed to pander to the common 20 to 40 year old man to get their ratings to sell advertising. He never fooled me. Was a great radio show in the 90’s and early 2000’s though. R.i p.
I subscribe to SiriusXM because I like esoteric oldies music and take long road trips. Last time I listened to Howard, I had a radio in my bedroom.
This is when the show jumped the shark for me. This is really painful for me to listen to.
Howard died in a helicopter crash years ago. This new guy is a replacement.
That Marci Turk that he hired was also behind this, if not entirely. The strategy? Literally scrap EVERYTHING that ever made the show revolutionary and hilarious.
"No one is going to forget that we exist." Well, yeah most people forgot you exist.
"Accountability" = 70 percent of staff fired and forgotten.
But hey, at least Jewel got in the Top 10 that year.
Monster all Frankensteining across that stage … such a BAFFOON
Buffoon indeed.
Sad. Just sad… as a 20+year listener (2009-before) this embarrasses me.. Howard use to yell at Tom C because Tom would yell at KC for wearing his hat backwards, Howard said “Tom, we did not get into radio to be forced to be corporate”… I still have Sirius but I have not turned on 100/101 in 10+ years beside the Bruce interview. Sad
This right here is why I haven’t listened to Howard in a very long time! He has become such a dbag and is basically Imus now.
Nobody could touch Howard through the 90's and into 2010. But this is a desperate plea from Howard asking his staff to repair his image from that era.
He says 23million subscribers. That’s Sirius thou. Not all 23 are listening to his show. When I was trucking lots of time I was listening to road dog or music
