🇫🇷 @CockSparrerOfficial est né en 1972 dans l’East End londonien. Depuis ses débuts, la formation injecte à son punk des influences venues du glam rock et du pub rock, délivrant en musique le quotidien pas forcément glamour (lui) de la working class britannique.
Les membres de Cock Sparrer ont été parmi les premiers à se frotter aux sonorités punk rock et oi!. Sans vraiment le savoir, ils ont ainsi ouvert la voie à plusieurs générations d’artistes bien énervés. Des groupes tels qu’Agnostic Front et Dropkick Murphys se prévalent ainsi de leur héritage. Malgré cette reconnaissance par leurs pairs, les membres de Cock Sparrer n’ont jamais rencontré de véritable succès commercial.
Enfin... ça, c’était avant 2024, année de publication de Hand on Heart. Ce huitième opus a en effet atteint la 96ème place du top des ventes d’albums au Royaume-Uni. La première fois que les punks voient leur nom figurer dans le UK Album Chart ! Une belle récompense après 52 ans de bons et loyaux services.

🇩🇪 Cock Sparrer gründeten sich 1972 im Londoner East End. Von Anfang an erweiterte die Band ihren Punk um Einflüsse aus Glam Rock und Pub Rock, um den nicht unbedingt glamourösen Alltag der britischen Working Class musikalisch zu verarbeiten.
Cock Sparrer gehörten zu den ersten, die Punkrock und Oi! zu ihrem Credo machten. Ohne es wirklich zu wissen, ebneten sie damit den Weg für mehrere Generationen zorniger Künstler wie Agnostic Front und Dropkik Murphys, die sich auf das musikalische Erbe der Band berufen. Doch bei aller Bewunderung durch ihre Kollegen konnten Cock Sparrer nie einen wirklichen kommerziellen Erfolg landen.
Zumindest nicht bis 2024, dem Jahr der Veröffentlichung von „Hand on Heart“. Mit ihrem achten Album erreichte die Band nämlich Platz 96 der britischen Albumcharts - die allererste Chartposition der altgedienten Punkband! Eine schöne Belohnung für 52 Jahre treuer Dienste.

I was working a warehouse gig in the early 90s when a friend handed me Shock Troops on cassette and told me to listen. Popped it in my Walkman and I was hooked. This is soooooooooo damned good! Thanks so much, ARTE...always great stuff 😀

La grande classe, les vieux "oldschool" remettent les pendules à l'heure. La finesse anglaise ! Pure musique skinheads prolos et punk oi! Le titre "because your young" 32:38 c'est juste magnifique.
