🇫🇷 À sept ans, certains passent leur ceinture jaune de judo, lui chantait sur scène avec Agnostic Front, le groupe de son demi-frère. À treize ans, certains font des exposés sur Charlemagne, lui enregistrait le premier EP de ‪@MadballNYHC‬. son groupe alors fraîchement formé. C’est dire si Freddy Cricien est tombé dans la marmite du punk hardcore quand il était petit.
Une marmite qu’il a d’ailleurs allégrement sirotée jusqu’à la dernière goutte pour faire de Madball l’un des piliers du hardcore new-yorkais. Et si en 35 ans d’existence, le line-up de musiciens entourant Cricien a pas mal tourné, les riffs n’ont rien perdu de leur tranchant et les fûts en prennent toujours autant pour leur compte. En témoigne leur dernière mouture en date : For The Cause, dixième album sorti en 2018 et confirmation que le groupe a encore de beaux jours devant lui.
Vous vous en doutez bien, avec une telle carrière, c’est en habitués qu’ils déboulent sur la scène de la Warzone du Hellfest pour une sixième apparition au festival clissonnais. Serrez bien vos lacets, ça va pogoter sévère.

🇩🇪 Mit sieben Jahren, wenn andere gerade ihren gelben Gürtel im Judo machen, stand Freddy Circien schon mit Agnostic Front, der Band seines Halbbruders, auf der Bühne. Mit dreizehn hielt er nicht etwa ein Referat über George Washington, sondern nahm seine erste EP mit seiner gerade gegründeten Band Madball auf. Kurzum, Freddy wurde der Hardcore-Punk schon in die Wiege gelegt!
In den 35 Jahren seit Gründung der Band avancierte Madball zu einem der wichtigsten Vertreter des New York Hardcore. Die Bandmitglieder um Freddy Circien herum wechselten zwar des Öfteren, doch Madballs Riffs bleiben messerscharf und die Fans kommen noch immer voll auf ihre Kosten. Das bewiesen die New Yorker zuletzt mit ihrem 2018 erschienenen Album For The Cause.
Keine Frage, dass die Hardcore-Punker längst Stammgäste in der Warzone auf dem Hellfest sind - Moshpits inklusive.

I ran sound for this group at punk rock bowling here in Vegas at Fremont Country Club memorial day weekend...and they were the tightest, most dialed band of any of the acts I ran over 4 days. The crowd was in an absolute trance and the pit was nonstop. Guitarist was super cool and his tone was insane. My favorite band of the festival.
