Thank you so much for watching Vicky!! And now the mystery has been solved 😊 I am so grateful to have been introduced to this type of journaling all those years ago; I think this type of journaling is such a great jumping off point for those that want to start journaling in a creative way, but just don’t know where to begin. My journals have evolved a lot since beginning my journaling journey and now they are more of a creative daily journal that encompasses so much more than journaling alone; it is a place for me to be creative, try new art techniques, experiment with paint, collage, etc. as well as writing about my daily events. Thank you for introducing this type of journaling to this fabulous community and I hope you will take a gander at some of my more recent videos to see the changes. Thanks again!! Be safe and be well, Elizabeth
Elizabeth you are such a good teacher. A brilliantly presented discussion about Fauxbonichi journalling. I first heard of it about three years ago and I watched some videos from MissVickybee. She sticks in my mind as the originator but I could well be wrong. The Hobonichi Techo is now available here too but at $45 is more that I am willing to pay. I loved the passage that you read. It was such a perfect description of the reason that you should journal. Anyway I have stopped calling mine a Fauxbonichi because I felt that I didn't tick enough of the boxes to call it that but I think it is just semantics so I don't worry too much, Ali xxx
Thank you so much for watching Ali and for your wonderful compliment!! I've heard it was Miss Vicky Bee as well, but you know the interwebs, the more you go down the rabbit hole the more the stories start to overlap. Whomever started it, I'm grateful, that's all I know at this point, LOL!! I agree, the Techo is still out of reach for me price-wise as well; it's a little too much for me to spend on a journal that holds one year. I'm just going to stick to my 50 cent altered composition books :) Fauxbonichi's have changed so much over the years; now they are an amalgomation of journaling, scrapbooking, glue booking, art journaling, etc. At any rate, I'm ever so grateful to have found this type of journaling and the wonderful ladies on the group that I now call, friends, including you
Thank you, Elizabeth for the research you did to make this very informative video! You shined a light into this interesting topic! I'm looking forward to your fauxbonichi history flip through! 😊
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad it was informative for you and I do hope that I explained it all properly. I do have such a passion for journaling in any way, shape or form :) Be well, Elizabeth
Thanks for sharing what Shigesato Itoi said about what hobonichi is... I think it applies to most journaling in general. No matter how you do in your journals, themes, supplies, tools - it's a reflection of you the creator for sure!
What a brilliant video dear sister! You did such an incredible job explaining this amazing style of journaling! We started our fauxbonichi's about the same time and I love it as much....no, more than I did when we started and this journey has been such a blessing. I'm sure your wonderful video will inspire others to begin their own! Much love and hugs!
Thank you so much for watching Lynn!! I'm glad you could understand my attempt to explain what a Fauxbonichi is :) I do hope this video inspires others, because like you, this type of journaling has been such a blessing to me. I am blessed to call you friend all these years!! Much love to you, dear sister
That was a wonderful VR Elizabeth! I binge watched your channel last year. Even though I don't faux-bo, I journal/creative journal and other crafts, and have been inspired by you and the other UA-camrs you share. Thanks for all you do and share.
Aww, thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment!! I'm glad to hear that you do journal; I think any type of journaling is wonderful, it doesn't necessarily have to be the Fauxbonichi style. I'm thrilled that you've been inspired :) Be well, Elizabeth
I am late to the FAUXbonichi party...today was the first time I’ve seen this PLANner/life journal. In searching on YT I landed on your video. You did a great job explaining about Hobonichi & FAUXbonichi!
I would love to see a flip through of the evolution of your style. I've been watching your videos since the beginning, so it would be fun to see it all in one video. You're so inspirational, I often go back and rewatch the old videos for new ideas. 😊
Great Job Elizabeth! Very informative...I think I started a year after you, and I love this way of journaling - I also love that you are still posting - I so enjoy your process videos. Thanks,
Thank you so much for watching!! I absolutely love this way of journaling and I'm ever so grateful to have found it. I'm also so thankful to the ladies on the group that encouraged me to start flip thrus here on YT; I so enjoy filming them :) Be well, Elizabeth
This video is very informative Elizabeth for the first time users of the fauxbonichi. These books will be in your families lives for many many years to come. One day your grandchildren will look back and see the adventurous grandparents they have along with their parents. The adventures of being out in the sea or open water. The way you would prepare for each coming of a storm to the everyday life. No matter what that situation may be, you have it well written down to all the colorful drawings to family pictures. Thanks for sharing this beautiful part of your life. Take care.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for watching Rosie!! It is my hope that my children and their children will enjoy these books as a little glimpse into our lives :) I do so enjoy this type of journaling!! Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you so much for watching!! Glad you enjoyed. This type of journaling is a super fun way to document your days, hope you give it a try. Be well, Elizabeth
Thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment!! Maybe I'm missing teaching, eh? I never know if I'm explaining enough or too much!! Oh well, so glad you enjoyed :) Be well, Elizabeth
I am a new subscriber but I feel like you are an old friend. I started with the process videos you put up and have watched a lot of your flip through and chats. I have journaled since the 6th grade possibly before then. You have inspired me to try the fauxbonichi way. I am in a fancy journal now and I will use that until probably May 1 so the two month thing will work out. Thank you for sharing your life and creativity with all of us.
Thank you so much for watching!! Aww, I'm glad you feel I'm an old friend; that's a sweet compliment :) It warms my heart that you've been inspired to journal this way. The only thing resembling a Hobonichi on my pages is the header, everything else is pretty much considered "creative" journaling. I do enjoy combining illustrations/decorations with writing down every day goings on; it's a fun way to journal. Be well, Elizabeth
You did an excellent job of explaining what a fauxbonichi is...I've seen several videos on how people make them, but I didn't understand exactly what it was..I looked it up online, but I wasn't comprehending exactly what a hobonichi was ..then I came across this video and now I understand...I wish I had had teachers like you in school :)
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad that I was able to bring some understanding to the term Fauxbonichi; my teaching degree hasn't gone wasted after all, LOL!! I do hope you try one out; they are super fun and rewarding. Be well, Elizabeth
Aww, thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment!! I really do miss my homeschool/teaching days; I guess you could tell :) Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you so much for watching!! Glad you enjoyed. The Fauxbonichi has really morphed over the last few years; now it's really a creative journal, so to speak. Be well, Elizabeth
I write down my daily activities on any little square box that i find in a calendar or planner but would luv to do a fauxbonichi....I luv what u do n I was trying to start my own but I don’t know how to prepare to add the pictures.. sayings.. subtitles.. etc... ur books r beautiful n colorful... I would luv to see a step by step process of a day in the making in your fauxbonichi... thanks for sharing n inspiring me🙏🏼
Thanks so much for watching!! I'm so glad you enjoyed and are interested in starting your own. If you go to this link: ua-cam.com/video/7pR7xonVOsY/v-deo.html it will show you step by step how I prepare my book :) I do have some process videos also in a playlist if you want to watch those. HTH!! Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad you enjoyed the explanation. It's always hard for me to know if I'm explaining too much or not enough. I'm working on filming more evolution videos, stay tuned :) Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you so much for watching!! Yes, this type of journaling can include all sorts of things; that's part of the fun of it all. I do hope you'll give it a try :) Be well, Elizabeth
I'm trying to find a video I saw earlier this year about how to get started. I love your style. I have bought several 100 sheet composition books. I have started gluing 3 sheets together and need to know what to do next!
Thank you so much for watching!! If you'll look in the description box of this video, you will find a link to my Altered Composition Books which takes you through the whole process. HTH, and happy journaling :) Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you for watching!! Just look up "Fauxbonichi" here on UA-cam, there are bunches of videos. This type of journaling has changed and evolved so much over the last 4 years that it's really just a creative journal. It's more like and art journal/written journal more than a "Hobonichi" format anymore. Also, I'd highly suggest finding a journaling group on FB to join if you haven't already; there is endless inspiration :) Be well, Elizabeth
@@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth no problem 😉...as soon as I finish my daughter's doll house books I will be following your channel to make my first one 👏🙌 I can't wait and I'm already starting to collect my items...thanks!!
Yes could you take us through your first years and the now year because I lost some of my notes I enjoy listening to you walk through the different ways
I'd love to see how your style has changed. I've always been curious how you started out when you do your flips. I'm still a newbie (it hasn't even been a year) and I'm still trying to find my style, so I'm totally interested to see how your style has developed.
Thank you so much for watching!! So thrilled to hear that you've caught the journaling bug :) I'm working on those videos now, keep an eye out for them in the future :) Be well, Elizabeth
Thank you so much for watching!! On my channel, I have a playlist for how I alter the comp books to make into Fauxbonichis and it can be found here ua-cam.com/play/PLxtJnjhVUYRJHBnBPTf2Ozjroc660tXH2.html This is just my way of doing it, it's not the only way. Many people use any type of blank, lined or dotted journals. I do glue three pages together to make the pages more sturdy so nothing will bleed or shadow through. I don't use Fauxbonichi's anymore; now I use a handmade junk journal out of an altered comp book that I've increased the spine for and you can find those tutorials on the playlist, "Hybrid Creative Journal." HTH Be well, Elizabeth
This video is wonderful. 🙂 I've been interested in using a fauxbonichi, and I have a few ideas on where to start. I have two pocket size notebooks that are soft cover that I bought at the dollar store, and I also have a lined journal I purchased from Walmart that has 112 pages. I feel like I should start small first. Could I use two journals - a bullet journal, and a fauxbonichi? What if I write my thoughts in my bullet journal with my usual daily planning? Would that defeat the purpose of the fauxbonichi? 🤔
Thank you so much for watching Micah!! My short answer would be to do whatever makes you happy :) It's your journal, so do what makes sense to you. My longer answer is...is that the Fauxbonichi is a more specific type of journaling based off of the Japanese Hobonichi, it's basically a "Life Book" and one would write about what goes on in their daily lives. Here is the link to the Hobonichi website (English) and it kind of explains the premise as well as gives ideas and examples on how others use their books in the "How It's Used" section. www.1101.com/store/techo/en/ The Fauxbonichi is a term used for a Do It Yourself Hobonichi. Typically any blank book/journal that you write about your daily occurrences, one day per page. It is not a planner per se (that is my own understanding, and I am no expert) as you write about what has happened in your day, not about what is going to happen if that makes sense. It's just a way to document your life in a daily way. Hope that helps and again, I'm not an expert, this is just how I understand it. I have an entire playlist of Flip Thrus here: ua-cam.com/play/PLxtJnjhVUYRJwWoo3VcbUZM25IsAwXKeG.html dating way back to when I first started 5 years ago. I no longer journal in the Fauxbonichi style, though I do still journal my daily events in an altered composition book that I turned into a junk journal of sorts and I just call it my "creative journal." Well, don't know if this answer helped or hindered, but feel free to give me a shout if you have any other questions. Be well, Elizabeth
@@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth Thank you for your reply, Elizabeth. And you're very welcome. 🙂 I'll definitely take a look at the Hobonichi website. And once I get into the fauxbonichi and use it for a while (maybe for a week or so), I'll think about whether I want to keep my bullet journal just for planning. 😊 I'll start in May on the 1st, and see where that goes. 🙂 I'll be sure to give you an update. And I think I'll use my pocket size books first. Many blessings to you, Elizabeth. Again, thank you for making this video. 🙂 - Micah
This was very informative. Your books are amazing. Isn't it wonderful to go back and read your memories? Thanks so much for sharing. I really enjoyed this video 💖😄 xo Sparklingchar
Thank you so much for watching Clara!! I've rarely used just a normal book for my journaling, they are mostly altered composition books. I find that by altering books I can make my own "journal peace" because I have yet to find a store bought book that fits my needs. If you would like to learn how I used to make my Fauxbonichis, you can check out my playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLxtJnjhVUYRJHBnBPTf2Ozjroc660tXH2.html After a few years, I found that these books were not fitting my needs, so I found a way to expand the spine and make sort of a "junk journal" and I call it, my Creative Daily Journal. You can find how to make a book similar in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLxtJnjhVUYRKdlhJ5bX8qPHlMIxoEgqSR.html HTH!! Be safe and be well, Elizabeth
Never Hopeless by Elizabeth Thank you so much for your comment, I will check these videos out! It will definitely help me. Stay safe too keep up with the great videos
Thank you so much for watching!! I really do enjoy journaling the Fauxbonichi way, though now I use a junk journal because it provides so much more room to add the things that I want to document about my life. Be well, Elizabeth
I’d love to see your progress to your style. I think Marianne @ pocketfullofvintage on UA-cam had a hand in some of it too. She was fearless in turning composition books into whatever she needed at the time. I miss her too😕, cuz she’s not doing videos any more. But I’m off to catch up on yours because you’ve been filming like crazy 😁! I just thank you for sharing bits of your life with us. Have fun 🤗💗!
Thank you so much for watching!! It's really hard to know who really started it all. Nothing is really original, someone, somewhere has gotten ideas and inspiration from somewhere and has taken it and ran with the idea tweaking it here and there to fit their individual needs; it's one of the things I love about people here on UA-cam sharing their time and talent with us all, so that we too may become inspired :) I miss Marianne as well, I always hear her in my head saying, "It's your journal, do what you like" in her sweet Australian (?) accent. LOL, I had been filming like crazy, then life took a turn, and I took off all last week! Getting ready to begin anew tomorrow, hopefully with a ramble session or two or three!! Hope you are having a blessed weekend :) Be well, Elizabeth

Thank you so much for watching!! Glad you enjoyed :) Be safe and be well, Elizabeth
I think Miss Vicky Bee started the Fauxbonichi. It was a you tube video.
Thank you so much for watching!! I'll have to look her up, thanks for sharing :) Be well, Elizabeth
I'll definitely take a look at the Hobonichi website. And once I get into the fauxbonichi and use it for a while (maybe for a week or so), I'll think about whether I want to keep my bullet journal just for planning. 😊
I'll start in May on the 1st, and see where that goes. 🙂 I'll be sure to give you an update. And I think I'll use my pocket size books first.
Many blessings to you, Elizabeth. Again, thank you for making this video. 🙂

Thank you so much for watching!! Hope you enjoyed :) Be well, Elizabeth
This was very informative. Your books are amazing. Isn't it wonderful to go back and read your memories? Thanks so much for sharing. I really enjoyed this video 💖😄 xo Sparklingchar
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad you found it informative :) I love going back through my books and reminiscing!! Be well, Elizabeth
Hey where can i find a journal to start a fauxbonichi, a journal similar than yours? Thank you
Thank you so much for watching Clara!!

Your videos are so great!
Thank you so much for watching, glad you enjoy!! Be well, Elizabeth
Great explanation! TFS! 😊❤️
