      When one stops making any kind of argument/point in their critique, and resorts to simply disparaging a group.
      Using the premise of ‘criticism’ as a platform to only insult an individual or group; rather than engage in any sort of constructive conversation.

    I think legit criticism is always okay as long as its valid and sticks to what its supposed to be and doesnt devolve into insults and genuine harassment like if you get alot of criticism for your work then you should probably look into why that is and see if you can fix it criticism as long as its constructive is never a bad thing imo

    Japanese authors put certain stuff into their work for a reason. Both the consumers and translators pick up a JAPANESE work consciously and should be aware of cultural differences. "Their" norm isn't universal.

      Anything other than "big bro" or "brother" sounds either ridiculous or too verbose in English for what's intended as a short affectionate nickname, either proposition however loses the distinct mannerisms. English just isn't grammatically/socially flexible to convey such mannerisms in text.

    For me personally was probably 5 or 7 years ago I had gotten my own place and was able to watch whatever I wanted so being from my somewhat strict religious family I watched Highschool DxD for the plot and for the "plot". However I watched the Dub version on blu-ray and I was so confused then when I watched Season 4 ending in dub I was puzzled by all the sexual jokes and Innuendos and thought was this really anime and people something this bad. Then I watched the Sub and man was I blown away by what I was reading like sure there were jokes but the biggest thing that got me was Issei vs Sairaorg having a big fight for there dreams and Issei being in awe by this man determination and how far he will for his dream honestly it brought a tear to my eye cause I wanted to be like that, then what does the Dub do Issei says how cool Sairaorg is and then goes to say how hard he is, like really talk about destroying the mood.
    I have criticism for localizers taking creative liberties since they are treating the audience like there children but the sad thing is there is no line between legitimate criticism and actual harassment since the person receiving the criticism can call whatever they want and people will stand with them. Then they will use a few outliers comments and run with that and say they represent the whole which will then devolve into a shouting match and then no one wins, I want localizers to be able to take the criticism if they do a small mistake but the reality is that they are going out of there way to change alot. I can only hope in the future things will change but we shall see it would be nice if they would just do there jobs and not get a power high on changing things then getting upset at people that are saying why did they change it.

    Why were trans people even consulted in the first place? It'd make sense if it was a writer wanting to respectfully create a new work featuring trans people, but this is a translation. Just translate what's being said, that's it. Which is also why I don't think they should even consult crossdressers either even if it is about them. As an example, take yaoi(the kind where both parties are obviously guys and male presenting) which obviously features homosexuality. Yet it has a lot of difference to the actual experience of gays, and that's fine. Not everything has to be a realistic expression of real life. I can't link stuff in yt comments but look up, "On the response (or lack thereof) of Japanese fans to criticism that yaoi is antigay discrimination" and it goes into how that argument of real gay people vs yaoi depiction took place there. Even if what ends up being translated accurately is somehow offensive to american transgenders, then why censor that? If you want to change such media from being created(I disagree with that fwiw but whatever, everyone has a right to opinion), then confront the creator about it. But you can't do that if you're already being dishonest and misrepresenting their work by changing it.
    The only exception I can think is if there's a manga that's explicitly going for that respectful and realistic trans experience and uses terminology or expressions trying to mimic that. But even then, don't contact american transgenders, contact japanese ones. The former will bring in their own cultural biases that will muddy the whole thing and it will erase the latter, of whom the work is about. Which is quite ironic if you think about it. It is very sad for me to see the kind of cultural arrogance these types tend to have even though that should go against the whole progressive shtick.

That big brudder from Rika still haunts me at nights, everything about that is bad totally off from the character, she is a well manered lady and the nii-nii is a way to show her childish behaviour, you can't not use it to not include the honorific but you can use other synonyms like big brother.

    It is clear that localization needs to be done to some part and that text has to change to a degree, because of lip sync but changing an entire series completely nowadays is the same with what the industry did back in the days, when anime was completely unknown and studios did with what they had in a way they wanted and not at what it was intended.

If hearing "like" makes it seem less potent, then that's one of those cultural things you could eventually get used to.

Regardless if the other character is truly fat, this shows us how the first character views them. Or maybe, it shows that these two characters have the sort of relationship where these types of degrading jokes are par for the course. @@realsupercobble People like Dai & other UA-camrs like Hero Hei, Rev says Desu & have been talking about this for months now. There are plenty of examples in Dai's first video if you care to check that out, one that seems the most recent was of a manga where a localizer insists that a cross-dresser is a transperson.
      Probably one of the more popular takes on this was the Miss Kobyashi's Dragon Maid, in a scene that had to do with revealing clothing, having a reference to oppression of the patriarchy.
      People are tired of this crap being randomly tossed into anime & manga.

    Yes I think it's time to just let Japanese companies know of what these Localizers are doing to their works.
    Let the Japanese Companies take ownership of what they do to their localizers for punishment.
    If it means that in the future we get broken English dubs done in Japan as Engrish Dubs, it would be 10 times better than having Japanese Jokes erased from Japanese Entertainment when localized for the west.

    • @OtakuDaiKun
      @OtakuDaiKun  2 роки тому

      That would work if only those Japanese companies have the balls to still pursue localization. They might just decide to remain domestic, which is the opposite of what they should be doing

    Overall I think there does need to a be a balance of how to translate and localize as you kind of need a but of both to properly and effectively translate something for the audience though granted these are case by case situations where if there were a livestream or time perhaps we could go over from varying genres and yes this has to include the shounen genre I know you say isn't your thing in order to find that right balance.

    im always confused, is the girl voice just your wife? or are you using a voice modifier? like why not just have another character rather than gender bent you? idk its not a big issue just confusing for me

    • @OtakuDaiKun
      @OtakuDaiKun  2 роки тому

      Dai-chan is indeed voiced by my wife. If a modifier worked that well I'd be so happy, but there is no such thing. It is a little confusing, but my wife voices Dai-chan, but she also has her own character, Ari-chan. I guess part of me is jealous since I can't be an egirl.
