I make this often and add it to my son's lunch box for school. I use regular yogurt and self rising flour (just 2 ingredients) then I dust with powdered sugar before I serve. I even prefer it to regular donuts! I recommend a standard whole milk vanilla yogurt when making the sweet snack, and a greek yogurt for savory recipes.
Have you tried using different yogurt flavors like strawberry or peach? If so, do you find the flavors come through or is it not strong enough to make much difference?

we call this in my country zolbia or bamie ( ofc shape is different ) one thing u can do is put some sugger in ur pot add some water & let it boil when its almost stiff ( i mean like honey something but less ) u can pour it on ur zolbia ( i mean what he cooked )

My favorite part of the process is helping the little treats to escape from the hot oil!
