    I think I will bring my wool blanket in from the car and give it an airing out. It was not a large as I would like but it was a yardsale find. Thank you for the educational video, Bill

    The rock method is awesome is i fold a blanket in half to make a semi poncho type configuration I'll use two with a double hitch configuration that works really well.

    I had two US army surplus wool blankets, but when I saw three on CL in like new condition for $25, I bought them too! They are 65% virgin wool / 35% repurposed wool, so still 100%.

    Great tips. I like the second configuration (even though your rock fell out lol), it would free you up to do some simple chores around camp. Can you let us know where you got that italian Officer's blanket?

    Good stuff! I cheated, instead of a wool blanket I often just pack my Russian greatcoat! Blankets are a bit more versatile tho.

    Fairbought Wool Blankets are the way to go. The are more expensive but well worth the heft and comfort. The Pathfinder heavy blanket is a Fairbought.Queen size.

      I heard that. Love wool blankets. I look at thrift stores and yard sales usually. eBay is my second option. Then yes Faribault typically.

    I have a 90/10 that I got from the Pathfinder shop and it works well but I need a bigger size. Mine is full I think but I want a queen 100% wool.

    Years ago in North Georgia in the 1950's and before, folks in the woods had what was called "Hog Killing Time". This took place usually at the end of November around Thanksgiving or just afterward or in some cased earlier. In the last 20-25 years it's simply been too warm for this to happen, due to Climate Change. Also my cousins in Stevens and Habersham Counties had sleds for winter sports. In the winter of " and I am not exactly sure" of perhaps 1959/60 or so a snow came that styed on the ground for 30 days. North Georgia is up near and even in the southern part of the Appilachian Mountains. My first "White Christmas" when visiting my aunt and uncle in Habershap County was spent driving up to Brass Town Bald the highest point in Georgia. Temperature was about 15. So bottom line, even with Climate Change, don't assume that North Georgia is going to be a winter site to go swiming in the lakes and streams.

    Hi I'm Mark and I wanted to ask you where i can get the big wool blanket because i have one and it's nice and warm but i need a big one to cover my whole body plus my dog, he's not big he is a beagle and the one i have covers my feet but only comes up to my neck so i need a big one to cover me from head to toe, so if you can help me to tell me where to get the large one i would appreciate it Thank you from Mark

    • @instinctsurvivalist
      @instinctsurvivalist  3 роки тому

      Mark,
      Love a good beagle.
      One of the better places with quality goods and lower prices is:
      www.faribaultmill.com/
      That’s where my large one came from and where I continue to shop when I need a new one. Outside of that, you have to look at thrift stores and grab one if you’re lucky.
      All the best and thanks for watching. Scratch behind the beagle’s ears for me.

    Is a rothco 90% wool blanket good, it seems heavy and you can't see thru it, i would like your opinion on it, Thanks in advance

    • @instinctsurvivalist
      @instinctsurvivalist  3 роки тому +1

      Mark,
      Not being familiar with that specific brand regarding blankets, the percentage sounds great!
      I usually have to think of purpose and environment and percentage of wool.
      What am I going to use if for and where? Then when am I going to use it? And how will I transport? The answer to these questions help determine if it is worth my money for a blanket.
      Without knowing price or those answers and going strictly on percentage alone, yes sir...I’d buy it.

      Not a problem. Wasn’t familiar with their blankets. I used to own a lot of Rothko products before the switch manufacturers. But like I said, wool percentage alone...sounds great to me.
      Have a great one.

      I bought a coupe of those myself they are really not bad for 30 bucks or so that they usually go for! a a little small but not bad . and they are loom woven ! Should last a long time !
      The other one I highly recommend and have bought several of are the Ektos Wool blankets on Amazon you can get a 100% wool blanket for 50 bucks also loom woven . great blankets for the money ! I use them everyday in bed and plan to take them camping too

    Why is twin size recommended by Dave Canterbury?

    • @instinctsurvivalist
      @instinctsurvivalist  2 роки тому

      I believe it is due to weight and versatility. You can do more with two smaller blankets as opposed to cutting up a larger one.
      When I take two twins, the weight is a tad lighter but I put one under me and the other over me and can drape it around me when walking around camp without dragging it.
      That’s my theory and thoughts. I have not asked him why.
