I have to say, unlike many modern day celebrity "bushcraftmen" that only care about selling you unnecessary gear, this bloke here in this video is the real McCoy. I am glad I stumbled upon his videos.
It was a pretty good night. I love cast iron, my kitchen is full of it, lol. And yeah I prefer the cold, this night wasn't near as cols as I had hoped for. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.
I’m an 1700s reenactor. One blanket for Summer. The addition of a wool coat with hood the rest of the year, and a skin or fur. Our clothing is usually several layers of wool even in Summer. If on a trek a second blanket would be included for early winter temps. Put down brush and leaves, then the animals skin. Next slip into and fold a blanket over you, then pull a folded over blanket-doubled over you. Natural shelter if wind, snow or rain, otherwise not. Southern woodsman took along a tick or sack to make a short mattress instead of a fur. Many men just brought their wool coat instead of the blanket for Late Spring, Summer, and early fall. You slept very close to a small fire. Historically, military men of the time would bunch together and throw most of their blankets on top. The phrase 3 dog night was a real technique for many a hunter to survive the night. Extra body heat is much appreciated. Any how that’s how it was done. Glad to see you outdoors, to many guys are on the couch with the TV.
It was a great shelter, I used it for many years. But haven't been there for a couple of years now. My buddy still uses it though. Thanks for watching my friend, take care.
Nice camp. Would like to see how you used the wool blankets; how they fit around you and a little more on the stitching. Looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks.
Thank you, I think this will be the last winter I spend at this camp, looking forward to making a new camp. This winter I will be doing some more overnighters with a wool blanket and I will show more about it. Thanks for watching and take care.
Good video I like the way you stitched the blanks together, I was wondering how much light that UCO candle lantern puts out I know it's not like a propane lantern but I've been interested in getting one and was wondering if they are worth it
Thanks brother, as far as the UCO candle lantern is concerned I personally like it. No it's definitely not like a gas or oil lantern, but it puts out decent light considering it's only a candle. On a previous outing I used it inside and there was enough light to read by, now in an open shelter such as this the light is less because there is nothing there for the light to bounce off of. But if your on the fence I would say get it, and get the pack flat reflector as well it goes over the top of the lantern to help direct the light. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, I've wanted to do an overnight like this for a while, I'm glad I finally got around to it. I'd like to do more like this one in the future. Thanks for watching and for the comment, I appreciate it.Take care.
I wish I had over 4k subs, lol. But I do have over 1k, which I'm pretty happy about. I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
lone_woodsman ...I am sorry it appears I was looking at the wrong numbers 😔... But you are still moving along at a pretty decent clip so it'll be 4000 in no time 😊
The wool blanket used in this video is one that I made by sewing other blankets together. It's plenty warm, I call it the beast because alone it weighs 12 lbs. I thank you for watching and commenting.
No not really, once you stitch them together they become one. And if I were to try spending the night in just "1" of these blankets I would freeze my *** off. For one it would be to small for me and for 2 it would not be thick enough to keep me warm. So what I did was create a new blanket that will serve my needs. Thanks for watching and take care.
The only reason I stitched them together was so they would cover me fully. If yours cover you I would just layer them without stitching them. It will be more versatile that way. I like to have a mil surp style blanket to wear like a cloak with a blanket pin, so I always have to carry an extra. So if you can leave them separate then you wouldn't need an extra one just take one from your sleep system. Let me know what you decide to do.

It was an interesting video. I think Id have taken an extra blanket. Have a good one

cool, woul explain the bulk when you unpacked i.
Kinda misleadign title dude when you actually stitched 4 blankets together. Even if we ignore the extra length it is still two blankets not one....
No not really, once you stitch them together they become one. And if I were to try spending the night in just "1" of these blankets I would freeze my *** off. There's nothing comfortable about sleeping barebones in a winter storm, but I agree with you, it's a perfect way to spend your time.
Yes it most certainly is. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care.
Why not bring the Hilton hotel?
Because the room service isn't as good.
In the old days they were on a horse
I can only wish I had a horse to help haul in my gear. In this day and age I am unfortunately the horse, lol. Thanks for watching, take care.
And a Indian.
