  • Jack's Rake is a Grade 1 scramble up Pavey Ark, a 700m fell in the English Lake District.
The route starts from the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Great Langdale. Follow the path up to Stickle Tarn which takes about 40 minutes. Facing you is the huge rock face of Pavey Ark. Jack's Rake can been seen traversing up the face of Pavey Ark diagonally from right to left.
Wainwright described this route as being 'just about the limit for an ordinary fell walker' and being 'more of a rock climb than a walk'.
Warning - this route is challenging and is a known accident black spot. Lives have been lost on Jacks Rake. The route is best attempted in dry, calm weather. In wet weather water can can flow down the rake making the rock notoriously slippy.

Got half way up this one a rainy day with some chums. I wasnt aware we would be doing something like this before setting off so only made it half way up. Brought completely inappropriate footwear and that put me right off. Have to get back and beat it though
