This dude is a complete idiot. He says the left was the side of free speach until recently. He must have missed minor event like the Soviet and Chinese revolution.
First, it's important to clarify that Lula, the current president of Brazil, does not oppose freedom of expression. Throughout his political career, he has consistently voiced support for democratic values, which include freedom of speech and the press. He has also made public statements emphasizing the importance of free discourse as a core part of Brazilian democracy. His government hasn’t taken any steps to limit individuals' right to express themselves, which remains protected under the Brazilian Constitution. Regarding social media, particularly platforms like Twitter, any potential temporary restrictions or discussions around regulation are generally aimed at curbing misinformation, hate speech, or coordinated disinformation campaigns rather than silencing individuals or legitimate opinions. Such actions are often rooted in concerns about the social and political impacts of these platforms when they are misused, especially to spread harmful content that can incite violence or harm the democratic process. Blocking or limiting access to certain content on social platforms is sometimes proposed as a temporary measure when it can be demonstrated that the content poses a risk to public order or safety. However, this doesn’t mean Lula’s government supports generalized censorship. Instead, these measures are typically focused on creating responsible digital environments where misinformation and other forms of harmful content can be addressed effectively. In short, Lula's position is more about protecting the public from misinformation and hate speech rather than censoring free expression. His government has not enacted policies aimed at general censorship, and Lula himself has not advocated for censorship of lawful, open speech.
@@mfnemevomitspit who defines if something is false or not? At one point everyone was saying covid vaccines prevented contagion, but that was later retracted. Same thing when people said intubation worsened the situation of the patient, and that was later proven to be true. Even in hard science some things are later debunked (quantum non-determinism was criticized by Einstein himself, and later proven to be true). So, again, who defines if something is false? Shouldn't we let people debate, give their opinions, and educate them so that they are not easily deceived? If truth is a google search away, why censor a comment instead of telling the people to check their sources? And if it's not a google search away because it's not that easy, but a debatable and complex matter, why censor a comment? People should be responsible of every consequence generated by what they say, but they should always be allowed to say it. Otherwise you give the government the power to decide what's true and what's not, and if you know about history, you'll realize that never, ever, ended well.

A lot of government powers sound like a great idea until you ask "Who do we trust with this power?" If the answer isn't people who vehemently disagree with you (and it never is), the government should NOT be given that power.
It's amazing how people are so happy to give more power to the government when it's their side calling...not understanding that it is subject to change very quickly and suddenly you're on the outside.
@bschmidt1 and how is socialism anything but the ultra elite having absolute control over everything ? Every instance of it being attempted becomes exactly that
Brazil only banned Twitter after firing literally everyone in the brazilian Twitter office and ignoring the demands of the Federal Court to send representation.
That one's a literal more complex. The bill to ban TikTok was motivated more by national security reasons than by censorship, (as TikTok is a Chinese owned company, which basically means the CCP collects data on users). I'm not saying it's right or wrong to ban TikTok, but it's not really about censorship
@@gnarwhal7562 In Brazil the ban also wasn't about censorship. Elon Musk had taken out any and all legal representation he had here in Brazil, which is something every single company needs to have to function.
Free speech is in the USA constitution. That's it. For example, if someone says a racist phrase in Brazil, man, it's a big problem. It's not USA here. We have our history, our issues and the laws we have in Brazil came from demands of our society, not from a USA point of view. It's simple to understand.
As for TikTok, it’s a way for Chinese government to collect your personal data/credit info. The US wants to be the only country that does that to its own citizens I guess.
He's missing a level of abstraction. It's not about populism inherently; they're willing to use populism if helps them. It's about maintaining their power. They have all the power right now: bureacracy, justice, media, culture. The results of their power haven't been great, hence the populism against them. But its all about keeping their power.
The NGO industrial complex has major incentives to maintain the mass migration movement and censorship. Most of the money directed to NGOs does not reach the actual subjects in need. Most is used to pay huge salaries, contractors and to buy further power
As a Brazilian, this information is incredibly misleading. It's not censorship, Elon wouldn't pay the fines and took the legal representative out of the country, it's that simple, now that he followed our request, it's not banned anymore. That brings another interesting discussion about the NORTH AMERICAN concept of free speech is you see it as a universal value, that should be followed ipsis litteris in every country. YOU have exceptions that you came to the conclusion would be worth censoring someone's "speech" call to action, etc. Here in Brazil, we came to our own conclusions on what free speech is and should be, YOUR values were not constructed by "God" and are not universal, therefore shouldn't be imposed on another country. This idea that Anything but the NORTH AMERICAN concept is censoring is dumb and ignorant.
True "free speech", whether you choose to define it as "from God" or not, is regardless a universal HUMAN value. It is quite telling when a society has it in practice, it is largely a better country in its people. The US (and Canada) have been having the universal right increasingly revoked over the past several decades, so it's not exactly fair to be holding recent times up as a contrary.
This is nonsense and strange for a country whose greatest symbol is the Christ the Redeemer statue. The Supreme Court in Brazil is basically a gang operating on corruption not justice (same for our DOJ). The judge Moraes threatened Musk for not censoring content critical of President Lula and seized assets of Spacex as leverage. Lula’s a crook and the CIA helped elect him using their playbook of dirty tricks. I can translate the US Constitution into Portuguese if you’d like. This country was founded on belief in God and in that sense our values are universal. If you believe in censorship, fine. We don’t like it, except for the Democrat Party.
@@Windrake101 When I say it isn't "universal," I mean that ideas are shaped by specific cultures. Not all societies reach the same conclusions, so there are no truly universal values. For instance, the United States believes its interpretation of free speech should be adopted by all countries. However, countries like China have their own historical developments and distinct values. Which in my opinion has led them to a development we have never seen.

One might argue, the US has forced a lot of that authoritarian leadership on them. Banana Republics are US backed dictatorships that got were pro united fruit company thus getting the US cheaper fruit. However, my experience in Latin America was the free speech limitations were aimed at extremist groups on both wings.....no Nazis can't march, no the communist party can't march, that kind of thinking, but they do it because those kid of groups were into terrorism, and they are trying to keep solving problems in a civil manner. They still have groups we would consider pretty extreme, marching and speaking freely, just not going to see a group like the Klan.
This situation runs much deeper than it appears. Coincidence or not, Brazil has become a major consumer of BYD, one of Tesla’s biggest competitors-a car brand that is actually banned from entering the U.S. to compete with Tesla, a clear case of protectionism. We've seen Elon Musk back a coup in Bolivia, likely due to interests in lithium mining. While his motivations are unclear, it’s not as straightforward as it seems. Musk has complied with similar requests from other countries, like India, to ban certain X profiles. It’s curious that this political crisis unfolds in Brazil just as BYD dominates our car market and shows interest in acquiring lithium mines here.

Who defines what "misinformation" is?
@@germanpenn false or inaccurate information, especially that which is deliberately intended to deceive.
@germanpenn anyone who knows the truth, mr chat gpt
Dude you don’t want the government dictating that. I know of at least 50 times in the last 2 years that misinformation came out as true. Aand when the us bans tiktok its normal figure that out ! Im not even on tiktok but its so hypocritical..
The US didn't ban TikTok. Maybe you should read past the headlines of articles.
It is not banned (yet). They cannot back door monitor and control it.
So free speech isnt a necessity?
Didn’t Joe want TikTok banned?

He's missing a level of abstraction. It's not about populism inherently; they're willing to use populism if helps them. It's about maintaining their power. They have all the power right now: bureacracy, justice, media, culture. The results of their power haven't been great, hence the populism against them. But its all about keeping their power.
Lula is a terrible president that should still be in jail I swear we are living in idiocracy

The NGO industrial complex has major incentives to maintain the mass migration movement and censorship. Most of the money directed to NGOs does not reach the actual subjects in need. Most is used to pay huge salaries, contractors and to buy further power
When was Twitter a benchmark for free speech 😂 lol ...yall too gullible
Fines for what?
@@warmleatherette5652 The Supreme Court ordered X to remove profiles that were spreading anti-democratic content, considering them a threat to democracy due to the spread of misinformation. However, Elon Musk not only refused to comply but also decided to shut down X's office in Brazil. This action makes his company ineligible to operate in the country, as Brazilian law requires every company to have a legal representative locally.
There is no such thing as misinformation! It’s just information…then do your research and decide for yourself…like everything else in life.

Take away the 2nd amendment and the rest all go away too
This situation runs much deeper than it appears.
