ATES guerrilla movement said in a statement, that the occupiers believed in their newest air defense system so much that they placed warehouses with missiles directly near the launcher
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv was behind the strike and thanked his top military commander, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, for organizing the operation.

S-400, like most other Russian weapons systems seem to be very much over-rated.
I watch a video where 7 Iranian missile hit 2 Israeli airbases despite Patriot, Arrow, David Sling deployed there while no videos of ATACMS hitting Russian bases, moreover pieces and debris of intercepted ATACMS have been posted.
@@manuelfloresescobar7657and that was out of 110 ballistic missiles, 30 cruise missiles and 170+ shaheed drones and most of those 7 hit the desert around the airbase. Ukraine fires 6-10 atacms and destroys the entire airbase. I don’t know of any atacms attacks filmed except for the training base that just got erased in Luhansk. I can give you links to S-400 being destroyed by regular old Gmlrs rockets or one being destroyed by a Neptune cruise missile. Only the burned out aftermath for atacms strikes

Okay? But Russia has video footage of destroying a Himars with a missile a couple weeks ago. Both vehicles can be hit and taken out, we have seen this pretty clearly with tanks and IFVs as well, Leos and Bradleys burn as well as BMPs and T 90s.
I'd personally say it's not as much about the respective system, Ukrainians have deployed lots of soviet era weapons very successfully. What matters is the skill of the troops using them, how intelligent they are, how much training and war experience they have, how much experience they have with the particular weapon/vehicle in question, how well integrated that unit is within the rest of the forces etc.
If we wanted to actually genuinely help Ukraine we should have agreed within the NATO alliance on a single model out of every weapons class. One tank. One SPG/SPH. One assault rifle etc. Cause i can only imagine how the hodgepodge of NATO arsenal, with many models being also having their own variants like Leo 2A4, A6, A7 etc... all this is probably an absolute nightmare for ukraine's logistics teams. What if you send spare parts for your T80 tanks to the battalion that has Abrams? What if you confuse the western 152mm shells for russian 155mm ones?
I really don't envy Ukrainians having to deal with that clusterf....
@@baraka629 Lol there is literally only 1 himars truck yet destroyed far as i know, and 1 damaged lightly. That's nothing considering how often they've been used & the few dozen Ukraine has so.. I think they made a mistake too when 1 got destroyed cuz usually you "shoot & scoot" so somehow russia was able to locate the truck and use a missile, maybe someone snitched them? Ukraine even has underground bunkers to store some of those as they showed.

Like usual the Russian system doesn't work. It can detect where the Russian producers state track and the missile range is the maximum range where they can only hit civilian targets. The 400 km range has a NEZ that is about 250 km for modern fighters. And a Hail Mary mode where they launch at a intermittent signal by stealth aircraft and hope to detect it from the top using the intercept missile.
So.... how Ukraine managed to defend itself for two years? And your supposed 'Hail Mary' launch had actually proven one thing: that people - with training, thinking and motivaton - are just as factor as hardware fetish. PS: it's true for about every missile - that's result of physics - that faster target can recover it's energy, the shorter effective range is.

The ATACMS missile flys a strange trajectory with abrupt changes in direction,altitude and speed .
Only the GPS-guided rockets change course. It does defeat defenses based on a calculated ballistic trajectory.

While I thought at least the modern systems like nasams or IrisT etc are able to as well.. I was in artillery at Ft Sill. People dont give enough credit to the actual size of the atacms warhead. You could hear that thing land from anywhere on base and the range at Ft Sill is huge.
We don't know if the Atacms penetrated or overwhelmed the air defence systems because we don't know the number of Atacms launched. If Atacms does really penetrated the air defence with no intercepts then it deserved praise.

ATACMS at Mach 3 and using a GPS aided/ Inertial Guided navigation system the S400 doesnt stand a chance. At approximately 2000 miles per hour and at 20 mile range that gives Ivan about 36 seconds to respond.
AFAIK, ATACMS can execute an off-tangent attack profile, making it impossible for it's launch location to be determined from it's ballistic arc.

But now new military systems need to be developed.
Focusing on how to make peace can be difficult but not as costly as building military capacity. Stephen Kotkin frequently talks about how you can win the war but lose the peace and you can lose the war but win the peace. He talked about how the US lost the war in Vietnam but won the peace, this nation now being a stable democracy friendly with the US. But he doesn’t say how to win the peace. Few people talk about peacemaking especially since the war in Ukraine started. Hopefully this will change.
All these videos say the S400 is the most potent SAM system ìn the world. There is absolutely nothing to base this claim on except for Russia SAYING it is. It has never been on the battlefield until Russia started this war. Russia also said its Kinzals and Zircons were unstoppable and both have been downed by the 80's era Patriot system. And, Ukraine wouldn't test air defenses with ATACMS. They would use the MALD for that. The MALD is MUCH less expensive and more widely available. They may also use drones. But testi g air defenses with ATACMS is not something Ukraine woukd do.

Patriot is perfectly able to shoot down Iskanders when deployed in a standard active configuration deep behind the front lines.

Russian equipment, as the russian army, is best not tested.
Another very expensive SA-21 Growler SAM system destroyed, Russia has lost over six of them so far since early 2022.
I always enjoy this presentation you all put out there. This had much outdated info about the war.
In the last satellite shot, of the destroyed S-400 system hit by ATACMS, you can see all the holes. ATACMS IIRC is a cluster munition. I think I'm right but nor 100% sure. Anyway, it's the normal HIMARS GMLRS cluster on steroids. You can see in the photo all the holes from the clusters. In a large area and evenly spaced, so everything on the big box gets some love.
What air defense do?
HIMARS &ATACMS rockets are precise via GPS. Question for Russian Forces is why they don't block or even spoof GPS signals around S-400 Sam site? S-400 sams do not need GPS.
If S-400 sam site area with 10km circle is disabled for GPS signals, HIMARS or ATACMS will not be able to hit pinpointly like this attack in Dzhankoi. HIMARS or ATACMS can continue to fly and hit the target area by using Inertial Navigation System (INS) but not pinpointly with usign GPS. Very intersting.
The more S400 system removed the more gaps are going to appear in the Russian Air deniability areas.

I think there's been 1 patriot destroyed in the whole war.. I've seen 3 S400 systems get destroyed in the last few weeks 😅 also remember Russia is using the best equipment available to them but Ukraine is using mostly old systems/missiles from US so they can buy brand new..
