@@ScottMikles first man i see on UA-cam using the Bg mq 6k i got the same set up with the winn wrap rod for Christmas will be using it for the first time next week .
I’ll definitely be testing the proteus this weekend against some big GT’s, I was always curious about this particular rod so I finally bought one. If you ever have the opportunity, look into a Zenaq Tobizo or the carpenter monster hunter, I can say with absolute surety you won’t be sorry, those rods will outlive you and then some, the size to power ratio is unreal. Good luck with the setup, nice!
First I brought the 2500 but it was too small. I exchanged it for the 6000 and it's the perfect fishing reel for me now. It's a good all rounder as you recommended. Thank you sub to your channel.
was your drag locked (on max)? I just bought a 4000 which has the same drag, and I am considering using it for striper in New England, but I don't know what max size fish it can handle. I already have a penn slammer 6500 HS and a 4500 Daiwa bg, but the Penn is on the bigger side for the cape cod canal and in my opinion not needed. I can do the job with less but I don't know if the 4000 bg mq is too little.
Quite funny that I ran into you today and met you at emerald coast and just looked you up on here and guess what? I was watching this video last night and didn’t recognize you 🤣
Yeah, I just have to pick the right day. The current and wind need to be doing the right things. The trim tabs help keep it planted under wavy conditions as well.
I pack my spools extremely tight so braid doesn't dig in. I'd only use backing on a big conventional. Also having 50lb braid on this setup it doesn't dig in much if spooled properly.
They are definitely comparable. Very similar in drag strength and feel. I like them both a lot. Similar in price. Similar in feel. The Saragosa Vs. the BG MQ really comes down to personal preference.
I have a 4 year old BG5000 that caught lots of fish. There is almost no wear on the gears. The MQ 's main gear is even bigger, so it should do even better.
@@xMoKaManX I have both, go with the BG MQ. The Gosa is phenomenal which goes without saying, but much heavier. The MQ feels and performs at a higher level in my opinion.
Still going so strong. I do my part by rinsing and cleaning it after every trip. I've caught a ton of fish on it, from 3 foot amberjacks, 6.5 ft sharks, kingfish...Even being the 6000, it is a weapon. So much so that I've bought the 14000 and spooled it with 80lb.👌
@@ScottMikles how has the drag stack lasted for you with the usage you put it under? I've heard from bcf experts that it's terrible but I've yet to replace any washers.
I have both. It may feel cheap because it's so lightweight. The BG MQ 6k is only 15 ounces. I've wrestled some massive fish to the boat with it as well as 6ft+ sharks. It's had drag pulled when fully locked out a lot and feels just as smooth and solid. It's a unit. If it had shown any weaknesses I wouldn't like it. I'm absolutely impressed with the BG MQ. And my Saragosa.
I have both bg mq and new gosa and bg mq feels great. Gotta disagree they feel cheap. If anything the drag cap on the saragosa feels super cheap out of the dollar store.
@miamiwax Sorry but I disagree. The bg mq's drag knob is a piece of junk that belongs in the bin never mind the dollar store. It even looks cheap lol, but definitely feels cheap. Then again I have 5 Saltiga reels so everything else feels cheap bar the Exist and Certate LT reels. The bg mq is the kind of reel I thrash on the rocks and couldn't be stuffed to look after
Definitely both. Those are the two companies I fish the most. All my rods and reels are either Daiwa, Shimano, or Penn. I have a Saltiga and a Stella. Those companies are right on pace with each other. I always say it comes down to personal preference with those two cause they perform at such a similar level.
@@ScottMikles yeah I agree with your saying exactly that’s a healthy way of seeing it instead of having one brand you favour and completely missing out of the features the other has to offer
@@lifestylekitebording4007 Not at all. 50lb is perfect for that reel. I've landed big sharks with it that way. The drag at full lock will give before the line breaks. Still casts a long ways too. If you're going to be pushing it to the limit on amberjacks and species like that, go with 50lb.
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

good choice, 6k is multi purpose and relatively lightweight.
Could you tell me What is the difference between 2020 BG MQ and 2021 BG MQ ? We cannot get this reel in Japan. Best regards.
For some reason I keep visualizing this reel as a Daiwa Certate LT w.o Magseal.
I’m really thinking buying the BG MQ 6000-8000 or a Penn Slammer 4500-5500, for shore jigging. I have a Majorcraft Solpara 1002h 60-100

Yeah, I just have to pick the right day. The current and wind need to be doing the right things. The trim tabs help keep it planted under wavy conditions as well.
How come you don’t use mono backing? I have the 5k MQ, and I used a little backing so the braid doesn’t dig too deep into the spool.
