  • My top 10 favourite books and one sentence reviews of EVERY book i read in 2023 because nobody knows what I've been reading this year 😅 horror, fantasy, literary, romance, thrillers, classics, non-fiction, and more!
    I would love to hear what books you all have been reading and loving this year and I'll see you soon in my next video 🖤
    St. Martin's Press Boycott Info: This has been going on since around late October from my understanding. The boycott is in response to a few major issues, like the general favouritism of white reviewers for ARCs over reviewers of colour and, more recently, the behaviour of a marketing employee in response to recent escalation in violence between Israel and Palestine, with said employee spewing Islamophobic and queerphobic rhetoric on their socials. All receipts and a thorough recap of events can be found at the Readers for Accountability website: r4a.carrd.co/?fbclid=PAAabVQ1...

    Awww. I loved Fred and Crystal! I love that his superpower is running away and hers is laying waste to baddies. The were pony and stoner mage...so snicker worthy.

    I wish I could give a top ten, but I don't think enough stood out to me in that sense to be able to. I love the fact that you loved Northanger Abbey, because it is actually one of my favourites by Jane Austen and the second one I read by her. I didn't read it this year though. I did recently did read The Last Tale of the Flower Bride and I loved it too, and I think it would on my top ten list if I were to make one. Another that would be is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Other Lessons From the Crematorium. That is a nonfiction I recently read detailing how the author came to her opinions on death and funeral ceremonies during her time working at the crematorium. I thought her arguments were quite well done, and I liked all the different topics she talked about. I may not be able to construct a top ten, but I can give you three new favourites I found this year which were The Oleander Sword (this I am a little unsure about because it is the sequel to a favourite), Evil Roots: Killer Tales of the Botanical Gothic, and Yellow Jessamine.

      Yes Northanger Abbey was SO GOOD and I’m so glad to hear about Last Tale of the Flower Bride 😍 it sounds like you had at least some wins this year with books so that’s better than nothing!

      Also, are you studying English currently? Currently a Journalism/PR student - curious what university reads were your favorite!

    • @itsbells
      @itsbells  6 місяців тому

      You’re so sweet omg! And yes I am studying English! Jane Eyre, Stone Butch Blues, Witchmark, and pretty much all the gothics I listed were some of my biggest wins from this year
      Do you have any favs from uni this year? Are you taking English classes for journalism?

    And I'm going to copy your idea because I'm 11 wrap ups behind and don't have any time or patience to deal with all that 😂
    ALSO! Next year, I PROMISE YOU, I will be starting with Robin Hobb. 2024 is the year. It's happening. And I'll be texting you all the way through.

    Have you read Here the world entire? It's a great novella take on Medusa. Also, not to judge a book by its cover but that cover is stunning!

    Yayyyyy, The Book of the Most Precious Substance! I read it when it came out - almost two years later, I still think about it constantly. It's probably time for a re-read :D
    Also, don't pick Arsenic and Adobo back up. I read the first three books in that series and the character development is almost non-existent and it feels like the one thing those books are obsessed with is being an entrepreneur :/

    • @itsbells
      @itsbells  6 місяців тому +1

      Ahhh yes I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard more people talk about Precious Substance it fully blew my mind! And ok cool thank you for the comment about Arsenic and Adobo I’ll probably tap out of it then haha

      @@itsbells I just found out that Robin Hobb is my birthday twin so I really want to try her out. Do you have any recommendations on what to start with, if it's not too much of a bother? :)

    • @itsbells
      @itsbells  6 місяців тому

      Omg never a bother to talk about Robin Hobb!! I would start with the Farseer trilogy, the first book is Assassin’s Apprentice ☺️ and then if you like that trilogy, you can just look up the reading order of the whole series and go from there!
      Love that she’s your birthday twin haha

    You should watch the movie Beloved with Oprah Winfrey. The visual representation might give more weight to the book.

    • @itsbells
      @itsbells  6 місяців тому

      Ooh yes I’ll add it to my movie watching list! I actually think it’s a book I’ll like even more on a reread when I’m not reading it under a time limit for school
