  • After a career as a musician and performer and the tragic death of her husband, songwriter Jim Croce, Ingrid found ways to flourish in San Diego, becoming a self-made entrepreneur, restaurateur, author, publisher and philanthropist. Starting in the early 1970's she led the movement to revamp San Diego's run-down historic Gaslamp district. In 1985, she opened Croce's Restaurant and Jazz Bar at the corner of 5th and F in honor of her late husband. Her passion for San Diego's Gaslamp, led her to launch one of the most successful events in San Diego History-San Diego Restaurant Week. Continuing her community efforts, Ingrid helped raise $250,000 for the prevention of life threatening diseases in pediatrics. Her efforts in raising such a large sum earned her the City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award, the highest philanthropic honor bestowed by them. Ingrid also reached out to the community through the production of A Celebration of Women Chefs, developing a Food Service, Hospitality and Tourism curriculum for the SD Unified School District and Mesa College, working with the Center for Community Solutions to help rape crisis and domestic violence victims, and raising money for AIDS organizations through Croce, Rock, Nelson Productions. In 2005 Ingrid established Avalanche Records and Books, creating and authoring Time In A Bottle, The San Diego Restaurant Cookbook and Thyme In A Bottle. She has served as co-producer and producer on several projects including: VH1's Behind the Music special on Jim Croce, Have You Heard Jim Croce Live DVD, TNN's The Jim Croce Life & Times, and three CDs: Jim Croce, Home Recordings, Americana; Facets; and Have You Heard Jim Croce Live.

He should have been in the Hall of Fame, a Hell of a long time ago, like I keep saying they put people in that don't belong in there and the icons like Jim and Tommy Bolin are forgotten. I don't recognize them as a true rock and roll hall of fame. They are pathetic period.

I worked for her as a bouncer when I was young. I'll never forget the stories she told me about her and Jim in their travels. She's awesome!.. Such a wonderful person. The kind of person that brings out the best in you. I often think about her in those stories

Jim Croce was really very talented gone too soon so tragically , at the age of 30. Ingrid and Jim I believe were dreamers and that is why she found her notch despite her loss and turned it into something positive. Wonderful way to carry Jim 's legacy.

Great share for everyone who searches and really wants to be found. I remember standing at a pay phone on the coast of Mississippi calling a girlfriend that was far away. I got the "no one to take your call." The Jim Croce song "Operator," came to mind. I realized that maybe I wasn't calling the right number. The number I can call anytime or anywhere I want to grow. Listening to this interview was a refreshing reminder to continue calling. .

Rest in Peace, Jim, and Ingrid...YOU GO GIRL!!HELLO,, INGRID! All my friends make fun of me when I say "Sometime, Somewhere, Someone' is gonna look back on Jim's influence with SONGS written to Jim Croche's wonderfully new (in the 70's) chord charts, and is going to do what I did on "You Used to be my Lover"---This is not an advertisement for ME, this I MY MEMORAL TO Jim. of HIM---The chords were the same, exact chords as Jim so carefully played behind is melody of " I'll Have to say I Love You in a Song"> Allot of who were self-taught, would take his chords and HONESTLY APPLY OUR OWN LYRICS., sometimes just as an exercise! If you took my track and sang his song along with that same track (hard to do because I'm singing the lyrics and playing guitar simultaneously, on the same track ) You could hear Jim's lyrics coming through too! I've never stolen a song in my life---but this song IS Jim's backup, totally, try it sometime! I probably had my strings all tuned down a step, as I used slinky steel and still used to have trouble holdin' em down. Even Jim's backup harmony was uniquely executed and made other harmonies of his time, a bit bland to me!Someday I'd like to play that song for INGRID. I had all of the albums recorded by Jim and Ingrid-and lost them in move in simi valley; Didn't mind losing anything in that apt., except or Jim and Ingrid's albumS. I hope someday Ingrid can hear it and...likes it! She knows one cannot copyright CHORDS., but if one could, JIM'S CHORD PROGRESSIONS ( most of them) should have been copyrighted---But I think Jim would not like that-and would want to SHARE with everyone trying to play guitar-And, HE DID! Rest in Peace , Jim Croche!! (By the way, does anyone know where John KNoodle from Detroit, is, these days ? He told me allot about managing Jim. Thanks folks-Please prove my friends opinion of MY HOPES AND DREAMS, null and void and totally wrong! coincidentally, I live in San Diego now---Only our business address as the Illinois Harmony Connection, is still Simi Valley. God how I'd love to speak with you sometime, someday, somewhere . (Gee, I feel a new song comin' on) This one would be about YOU, though.
