I had read something about the importance of the additions made by the Turks, especially the external support units and minarets. This article said that if these additions had not been made, Hagia Sophia would have been demolished long ago. Does anyone have knowledge about this?
Seeing that Hagia Sophia was about to collapse during the Ottoman period, Mimar Sinan repaired the dome of Hagia Sophia. He saw that the mosque was slowly moving and added supports to the outside of the building. The thickness of the two minarets is enough to ensure that both sides of the mosque are solid. Unfortunately, if it wasn't for Mimar Sinan, Hagia Sophia might not exist today.
There is a beautiful saying in Turkish: A hungry chicken thinks it is in a wheat bin... This is a saying for all the poor people, especially the Greeks, the spoiled children of Europe, who still dream about Istanbul and still accept Hagia Sophia as a church. Those lands have been Islamic lands for hundreds of years and Hagia Sophia is a mosque.
They didn't spoiled them and this is not a dream. They city belongs to christians. I'm from France and I say stop saying that hagia Sophia is a mosque. It's a church.
It was the Muslims who nearly made it collapse. They pillaged it. They nearly brought it to the ground until it was rescued. Granted it was rescued my Muslims, but it still wouldn’t have collapsed if they wouldn’t have damaged it in the first place
You can tell those minarets were never intended to be there compared to a building like the taj
Aesthetically I think they're beautiful but they weren't planned so along with the buttresses and mausoleums they spoil the outside view.
