I was really struggling cutting a circle out of 10mm foam the other day. Hearing it’s challenging for you too gave me more confidence. I’ve got to get me a knife sharpener and thank goodness for dremels with a flex shaft, lol. Love your books, patterns, and tutorials! Thank you!💖
I'm just getting started making cosplay pieces and have been getting set up with materials and tools. This channel has been incredibly informative, inspiring and positive. I can't wait to get building.
My 6 year old loves to watch you and Bill. She is itching to be able to use more than scissors. The dress was the first thing I noticed. Great idea, must have been the Corgis idea.
Mandalorian Armorer is my next build! You guys have inspired me to work with different materials!!! Thanks for covering more of the basics for us newbies!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm just starting my first foam armor set and am doing an original character mandalorian set. it's about half way done, I just need to dremmel the edges, paint it, and put it together (though I'm not doing the helmet, I just bought that, but it still needs to be painted).
This was super helpful! Could you do a video explaining different types of EVA foam? What high vs. low density, what types are used for what things (like if one type is better for props or one type is better for armor), how to choose what to use... there's so much, I don't know where to start! Thanks!!
i am currently working on a project that requires quite a few circles, it's really nice to hear it is challenging bc otherwise my perfectionist brain would stress over every little mistake. thank you for showing how to fix.
This came at the best time! I'm about to start my journey with Eva Foam (It was quite hard to get it since I live in a very tiny town), so this is great! Thank you so much you both, all your tutorials are always easy to understand (and very fun to watch!).
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m going to do a project that involves cutting EVA foam and your tutorial really helped me! You make these tutorials so fun and injoyable while also being informative and educational!
Hello Svetlana, I know that is is a simple thing and being an experienced crafter I should KNOW this… but sharpen the blade💡🤯! Thank you for the reminder! Cuts like butter now🥰😊
This is excellent! Thank you so much! It's also nice to see you make some mistakes haha. I've recently started crafting after learning from your tutorials, and my first few cuts were such an event, I was so focused on a "perfect" cut and thinking that anything less would be a disaster. It's reassuring that you can be a little incorrect, but with some warping, heating and painting later, the small errors are not noticeable.
I watched all your EVA foam videos. I'm not even trying to cosplay. I'm trying to make a custom insert for a gig bag for my guitar. Your videos are really helpful. BTW, me being left-handed probably me helped me on cutting foam, I didn't have to twist my hands hah.
I produced the first cosplay work of my life. A Republic Commando helmet. It was a hell of a job to make. Even the cutting of the foam went terribly, even though I sharpened the knife every 20 cm. Somehow it came together. The end result was better than I expected. It's true that my initial enthusiasm has waned a bit, but I don't want to give up. The surface treatment is still left, we'll see what the final result will be, then I'll decide if I want to continue doing it.
I yust started crafting my first Cosplay Projekt a few Days before. And I'm surprised how easy it is to cut and Grind Eva Foam. Really cool. And thanks for your helpful Content.
Thanks for this video. It's good to know that even pros have difficulty cutting curves. Also thanks for showing how to fix less than perfect cuts with the Dremel tool.
This is going to save me so much time and effort. Thank you! And damn it seems so obvious and simple but I honestly have not been sharpening my blades. Definitely gonna incorporate this into my practices ❤️ Thanks for this! Helpful (and entertaining) as always! Love those sweet loaf puppies, too!
Around 5:40 min Could be just an optical illusion, but the smooth cut seems to be a bit lighter in coloration than the rough one. Just make between 100-1000 straight cuts to reach level 100 in foam crafting, and everything else, like curves, bevels, etc will solve themselves ^^
Wow! Thanks for the amazing video! You are adorable and your video, so helpful!!! Im a bit less nervous about cutting out my pattern now!!! On to your next video! TFS!❤❤❤❤
I need all tutorials and i will buy all books for learning all about cosplay, huge fan of your work. I have tons of questions from where to start a cosplay suit and all :) your the best
And here i thought my blades were pretty sharp, turns out my cuts never actually looked good :'^) Time to try out the ceramic tip, i never heard of that!
A ceramic bowl/plate/mug works in a pinch, but if you need a consistently sharp blade, definitely get a stone. Also, the rod she used in the second clip, I'm reasonably certain you pull the blade *across* the surface, rather than down the length like it seemed in the video. But otherwise, just be careful! Sharpen a blade by striking it *away* from you, until you get the hang of the feeling. Everything Svetlana showed will work "okay", but there are "better" practices, depending on how serious you want to get about your edges.
If you're looking for a cutter knife, the OLFA "Special Black Blade(Japanese Notation:特専黒刃)" sold in Japan cuts well. It's so good that it can cut through buildings. It cuts just by stroking it.
I was working on my jinx blaster and i couldn't understand why it wasn't smooth and not clean and couldn't get through it so this made a lot of sense thank you very much
Thank you so much for all your videos! I am making my first cosplay and you have helped so much, I have really loved the whole process. You make these new skills seem much less intimidating, the knife sharpening tip was great. Might have to invest in some books soon ;)
I love your books and your tips are a godsend! It really took my cosplaying skills up to a whole new level. Curently working on a Gang Orca and Artorias cosplay, all thanks to you. Keep doing what you doing!
I really want to make an armor, but keep procrastinating 😅 I hope I will finally start after my current project. Thank you for your videos! I definitely feel much better prepared ❤
This was super cute! Can't wait till you do more dogo costumes >.< Super cute ideas for them in SL I want to make the Ardenweald Toad Mount for my pups! hahaha
This is so handy for future reference! I've always had a rough time cutting foam and doing angles has been scary but this video helps so much :D Also, corgis!!!!!!!!!!!!
Strange question, but could you maybe show how to "reverse engineer" cutting patterns? Like, you got something you'd like to dublicate without disassembling the original.
As Jon Taylor said check Punished Props they have a few years of vids to watch...here is a vids that will help: ua-cam.com/video/KZZ6Lftdxqo/v-deo.html
The 'wrap plastic wrap/cling wrap over it, then cover it in duct tape, then draw pattern pieces onto the tape, then cut the tape+wrap off and cut out your pattern pieces' approach might work? I hope you found something!
and also if you really can't cut straight or curved well cut the piece a little bigger or close to the cutting line and then dremel or sanding the cut to the right size.
It's so nice that the corgis let you use some of their space for your hobbies.
XD
It is probably the space their tail would inhabit if they had one.
@@marvelousmaker 😂 that made me think of Timmy's dad meme.
The space is actually owned by the human, she adopted the corgis

I use door round bits on my drill reverse speed, works really well. The lager ones are a bit spendy.

Buy her books! I got the led books as pdfs and they are very informative, and reasonably priced!
They are definitely on my Christmas wish list :)
I'm gonna be starting a cosplay project in January. I have zero experience, so I'm finding these videos really helpful as well

THIS was the single most USEFULL video I have EVER seen. SO informative! It explained PERFECTLY how to do everything perfectly! AMAZING! good job!
Thanks! I was wondering if I was being dumb for trying to explain something like this because it feels so self-explanatory to me. ^^"
Benni's cameo is definitely the highlight of this video 😂😂. Another great video. 🔥
Just as I started to work on my first foampiece. I already cut the pieces but had trouble doing. So maybe I will start over after watching this video
Hope it helps!!!
Thank you for leaving in the "not so pretty" parts! It's great to see how things can still turn out alright even if they don't go according to plan.
I never thought a video about cutting foam could be so entertaining.10/10 would recomend!

Back to basics. We all need to be reminded. Especially in your special way. Thank you, Miss Svetlana!
It's good that even for a cosplayer who has been doing this for 17 years, she still finds something challenging.
We all can sigh a sigh of relief.
