    Glad to see you fixing it right!
    Geez, that clutch appears either abused and/ or inferior parts with subpar installation.
    Keep up the great work!

      The owner had the clutch replaced less than a year ago, so there should have been less than 10k miles on it. I'm assuming the shop didn't replace it at all. Thanks!

    As an old man mechanic, let me give you whippersnappers some advice always keep at least 5 to 10 10 and 8mm sockets those things have legs and will start their journey home if you do not keep them locked up

I have a problem with my e46 320i m54. i bought an e46 as my first car the car had the problem that it overheated quickly and it boiled. so I spent many hours flattening the cylinder head and replacing the cylinder head gasket. it did not work i started it and the same problem persisted. what should I do? what is the problem?

    Jason, is that the best way, dropping the whole cradle?

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  3 роки тому

      With a lift, this is definitely the best way. It's possible to remove the engine from the top and support the trans somehow, but it would be a pain to remove both the engine and trans from the top. I'm sure it's doable just not as efficient

    Ha I feel like Germans can never get it right... I'd much rather work on my S2K than my AMG. The thing about japanese plastic panel clips is they don't strip or rust like German bolts.

    Is that the only fix for spun rod bearings is an engine replacement? Seems like an overkill solution for a spun rod bearing. Normally that's an engine rebuild, not a replacement. Just curious.
    Shout out to my favorite "next song" heckler Selena.

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  3 роки тому +2

      Unfortunately for the f20 engines their rebuild success rate isn't that high. And there was already quite a bit of internal damage due to the bearing material. It is definitely cheaper and more reliable to replace with a used engine. If the owner of the car wanted to spend a good amount of money and do some performance upgrades then a rebuild might have been an option.

      I'm pretty sure the previous shop didn't swap the clutch out, which is why it is this bad
