Taiwan's basic ingredients are expensive, because it is a small island surrounded by the sea, and the limited products have to rely on imports. But general restaurants in Taiwan are relatively cheap, because the salaries in the catering industry are not high. Compared with European and American countries who are used to cooking by themselves, Taiwanese eat out more often. As a Taiwanese, I think the best thing about Taiwan is convenience, including the proximity to mountains and oceans. And the biggest disadvantage is still the traffic safety and the unsightly buildings.
As a native Taiwanese, Taishin Bank is my favorite Bank in Taiwan. It's a local Taiwanese bank corporation, but very professional and willing to move forward to improve itself, no matter in customer service, financial services, or even user experience design. Hey Jen, I hope you are reading this. I came across your videos when I was looking for a day tour in Nantou destinations. I am there on honeymoon trip with my wife. We will be spending 2 days and 2 nights in Taichung. Therefore, I have 1 day in Taichung and 1 to travel around Nantou. After looking at your videos, I am pondering between visiting monster village and sun moon lake. Are you able to offer your views on which one I should go for? Will it be rushing if I go for the 2 destinations in a single day?
I haven’t been to sun moon lake sadly! I wish to go one day so I can’t exactly weight in. Monster village is small and can be toured in an hour. You could stop there on the way if you’re renting a car etc
As a Taiwanese-Canadian, I would have to say we could do a better job advertising and promoting tourism/immigration materials. There's a really lack of draw other than the tourist spots in Taipei.
Yeah, when I arrived last march, I was surprised that the immigration line in the airport is not that long. Convenient for me because the line is fast, but it tells you that not much tourists are coming into the country.
I don't think the Taiwanese government is too concerned about tourism as a source of income. It's sad because Taiwan really is such a beautiful place. There may even be a deeper root problem in that a lot of Taiwanese people think that Taiwan has very little to offer tourists (except the Chinese variety who they typically just milk for cash, but don't really bother as to whether or not they would want to return). My wife once booked us into a b&b in Taitung that predominantly marketed itself towards Chinese tourists and they put us in a room with a bunch of mattresses on the floor - not to mention that everyone had to share one bathroom... Atrocious! The next night we stayed somewhere else which offered far nicer amenities for the same price!
The main reason for me to move to Taiwan is to allow my 2 yo soon to study in local schools and learn Mandarim and also the local culture. I make my money from remote work, so I don’t need to work in Taiwan, just live there. Any recommendations?
Hi Jenn! I’m thinking of heading to Taitung during Chinese New Year in 2024. But I’m wondering how will it be like? Will it be super busy or will a lot of shops be closed for the holidays. Thank you in advance!
I would imagine a lot of places close but I don’t know as I’ve never been to Hualien during that time. In hsinchu, many people return home for Chinese new year so the area becomes a ghost town as most people live here just for work. The hsr tickets will probably all be sold out and train tickets as well as road traffic will be busy.

Are you kidding me? Alcohol is so cheap in Taiwan. In Australia, a cocktail costs around AUD$22 or NTD$460. Taiwanese beer (extra large can) is about NTD$40. In Australia it is at least 4X price. Australia tax is very high probably about 40%, plus health care levy on top, plus massive alcohol tax, plus massive fuel tax, plus local council government rate (gone up 45% in a year). Renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Australia is around NTD$60,000 a month in Brisbane and about NTD$100,000 in Sydney.
That’s the real question!! I’m not sure to be honest. In Hsinchu, there are many foreign people living here and working in engineering jobs or foreign companies stationed here and all of those people don’t generally speak Chinese. Maybe someone else will comment more knowledgeable than me!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ 1. You seem to be the heroine who came out of an Italian Renaissance painting.綺麗 ❤ 2. The sweltering gifts of the three months of summer are mangoes and passion fruits. God loves Taiwanese, so there are sweet and passion fruits. 3. The transportation environment in Taiwan was originally planned by the Japanese, and later designed by the Chinese. As you know, Chinese products are like that. In short, Taiwanese are also victims.

How do you earn a living in Taiwan coming from the US besides teach English? I don't want to just teach English. Thanks and love your videos!
That’s the real question!! I’m not sure to be honest. In Hsinchu, there are many foreign people living here and working in engineering jobs or foreign companies stationed here and all of those people don’t generally speak Chinese.
Maybe someone else will comment more knowledgeable than me!
