    For the substrate I would use reptile carpet because using loose substrate can cause your reptile to ingest it not to mention its really easy to clean

    depends on where you live for heating! i live up in canada so i use both a heat mat and a lamp. i keep the heat mat on all of the time so he can get warm if he wants to. i have an adjustable heat lamp (75 watt infared). i have it on almost as high as the temp can go during the day and turn it down at night. just make sure you have some kind of thermometer so you can make sure the temperature doesnt get to hot! hope this helps! :)

    For the heating you just have to choose one! Either a heat lamp or a heat pad, whatever you feel is better for your setup. easier for you, and more beneficial for the snake depending on how you cage is setup. And my snake is an Anery or Anerythristic corn, and as far as the breeder said, he had a tad of caramel in him as well. If your gonna get your snake get it from a reputable reptile store, petsmart doesn't carry very healthy ones.

  • @Free2flyjj
    @Free2flyjj 11 років тому

    I would agree, but both can be used because both bright white light (for day) or red warm light (for night) would create better ambient temperatures if you have a cooler home. It'll also help for the snakes color.

    you should make an annotation mentioning that lightly burning the edges of the makeshift plastic hide you made, so the snake doesn't cut itself, that's what I have done and they work great.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @yankesfan44 Well the thing about a ten and twenty gallon is that they have almost the exact same height, but they are different in length, and the 50 watt just is enough to make it the perfect temperature. I think a 40 watt might just be a little too cold. I would suggest raising the level of the substrate so that it is a closer to the heat, and place a rock under the basking area, so it is even higher. That way less heat can be the same temp. If you need a rock, boil one once or twice.

  • @thelazerchicken7964
    @thelazerchicken7964 4 роки тому

    Also you might want to use a thermostat to monitor the heat pad. Just so they don’t overheat. I’ve had issues with that in the past. But a thermostat gives the most accurate readings.

    Hey, I saw that he didnt answer your questions so I will. You only need one, either the lamp or pad for heating.And I'm pretty sure his snake is a amelanistic corn snake and you should really try to get your snake from a reptile store because they are more reliable than a store like Petco or Petsmart.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @NoelznLiam I would get all the stuff first and then make sure the heating is good just to be safe! I know getting a snake is exciting but you want to make sure they are able to go into there home without the fact that you might have to move stuff around and make lots of noise, and change the heat while there there. Causes unnecessary stress. Just make sure the cage is good then get the snake after.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @raf4jack Temperature gauges can range from 3 - 6 bucks for the circular ones. The probes are 15-17. A heat pad can be 15-30 dollars and heat units are generally 15-40 dollars. A bulb can be 7 -13.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @fpsvincent142 A water dish is good enough for humidity, they don't really need to much, and then near shedding time you can spray the sides of the tank a little!

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @AlbinoCorn617 Maybe remove the water bowl during the day and put in in at night or vice versa. You could also try moving rooms if it is too humid. And if you are doing any sort of spraying don't.

    corn snakes don't need a heat lamp. it's personal preference though. they get their heat from the ground not from basking. but you could use one if needed to keep the temp up if your live in a cold area

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @Rawlinlikeafishy Yes just really make sure you have one hotter side and a side that is cooler. But if its really big then maybe put a second light on the opposite side. And make sure there is lots of stuff to hide around in the tank if its big so he feels safe.

    @ElectronixMan Yes it is okat to put it in a 20 gallon. Either have a heat pad or light, does not need UVB, yes that ;ight holder is fine, 250 watts would roast him though, I would try a 75 at one end. The wattage of the light should be on the silver part of the bulb, kind of hard to spot but it should be there. Make sure these are specifically reptile lights.

    Hey Judam. Yes You Can Use A 7.25, It's Just Not As Warm As The 8 Watt. You May Just Need To Put In A Little Less Substrate. And Yes Use a Thermostat/Thermometer To Get Around 85 At The Hot End. It's Better To Be Safe Than Sorry.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @glowstick124 Not under the hot side though. We are talking bought hot side. Ambient air temp is around what you said, and night time around 70's. Room temp is fine for Night.

    @bigfish324 i use a 3ft x 18in and 18in for 2 corns and that does them great!
    i reckon a 5ft would be a bit big tbh... as if you keep corns in too big a tank, they could stop eating and stuff like that!! (odd i know but it does happen)

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    You don't have to use both, as you will get two different temperatures and it can be confusing. Going with a Lamp is always easiest. Depending on what size a tank you have, a 50 Watt for A Ten gallon and 75 watt or 60 for 15 is good. Heat pads can be hard to monitor for snakes, so I'd go with the lamp.

    Only use one or the other using both can over heat the snake and die so I recomend the heating pad but then you need to put something on the bottom of the glass under the substrate so the snake can't burn its self use newspaper or repticarpet ... Hope this helps

    I'm planning on buying a snake. I have all the setups done. There's only two things I haven't got, the snake and the heating. By the way, I wanted to ask you, I wasn't clear on what you said about the heating, do have to use both the heat lamp and the heat pad or just use one of them? Oh and also, I'm choosing a snake at a pet shop. I saw your snake and it looked soo pretty. What kind of morph is you corn snake. Please answer. I really can't wait to get my first snake.

  • @PurpleLashess

    Thanks for replying. Oh, and also, will this setup work for yearlings and juveniles? And, if I feed my snake live mice once in a while, will she stay on live mice everytime or will she go back to frozen? Sorry if I'm asking too much question. Please answer questions.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @lglukey96 Snakes are escape artists! Make sure you have a really secure lid or he will find a way to crawl out somehow. There very curious. I would go with a newer tank, or just find a lid that will keep him in.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @SCbornandbred Yes two hides should be used, we said that, but we didn't actually show it in the video. As long as he has a place on the warmer and one on the cooler. The plants were on the cooler, and log on the warmer. He can hide in both places. As babies I wouldn't worry so much about cannibalism, for sure when corn snakes our adults, its better to keep them separate, but newborns, and wee corn snakes shouldn't have a problem together. If so separate them.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @scabbyfishcake This is for a baby. A small sized bowl is more then enough, when it sheds then you can give the tank a bit more humidity.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @Bubbysword If there is lot of substrate perhaps but less so there is more room between the lamp and the substrate. Or get a less wattage light.

  • @Skorsis
    @Skorsis 14 років тому

    @jaromon105 I've been pretty reliably informed that pine in particular is actually toxic to some species of snake, including corns. As ReptiFilms said, you should go with Aspen.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @SCbornandbred Yes, it is always safer, with almost all reptiles, minus those that happen to be really communal, but I have housed baby snakes together for years now, with not one case of cannibalism. But that could depend on care or numerous things. I would say for sure yes, it is always safer to house snakes separate, but in experience I haven't had that issue so the odds to me seem slim in baby corns. That could be good care, or anything really. But yes I agree with you.

    Ok We Checked You're Message. We Were Incorrect, But Yes Thermostats Should Be Used, We Just Have The Heating On Timers and Electronic Gauges That Manage Temperatures, But Don't Need To Cut Off Power.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  14 років тому

    @MrXXBEASTXX3 Either a Heat Lamp, a 50 watt will do fine for a 10-15 gallon tank, or an 8 watt under the tank heat pad. One or the other.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @97lamborghini Well any type of temperature gauge is fine really, as long as you figure out a stable heat before putting the corn snake in. You can use digital probes to gauge the temps or the ones we showed in this video. Just make sure its the right temp. before putting your corn snake in. You don't really need a thermostat.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @lglukey96 They should only be like 10 - 15 dollars. I think building one might be more depending on what materials you use. Cause you gotta make sure it fits the frame of the tank but also can't be pushed up.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN

    Hey Charclass. Sorry To Here That. Try Looking In Places You Wouldn't Usually Think off, Also Warm Places As They Will Seak Out Heat And Small Places, From Under Stoves To Inside The Walls...Hope You Find Him. You May Have To Be Quiet And See If You Hear Him During The Night.

  • @ReptiFilmsWJN
    @ReptiFilmsWJN  13 років тому

    @12stonefilms 13 bucks for the substrate, I got the tank for a cheap 20 dollars, the light unit was 25 and bulb 10, under the tank heat pad 20, and the decor is usually 15 - 25 a piece (expensive..), and then lid was 15. It was probably around 100 dollars. But mind you this stuff doesn't go away, other then the substrate. So I can have many uses out of them, and usually trade decor between reptiles.

    Yeah I did look it up and I don't know who to believe. Some say the heat pad supplies too much heat and burns the snake while others say it does not supply enough. While others say that they just have the heat pad and have had no problems with it.

  • @cardinalximenez4505
    @cardinalximenez4505 9 років тому

    Baby snakes are better in a smaller enclosure as they are naturally agorophobic. They will outgrow the container though, it doesn't just stop growing after a certain amount of time. Use low dust substrates like aspen and lignocel. It's best you stay clear of heat lamps, because snakes can burn themselves on them.
