  • CONCORDE NOSE DROOP at The Runway Visitor Park Hangar at Manchester Airport (MAN)
On 14th October 2019 G-BOAC (A Retired British Airways Concorde) let us see it's famous Nose Droop... the Nose Droop is unique to Concorde and a handful of other Supersonic Aircraft, the most notable ones being Concorde itself and the Tupolev Tu-144 (A Russian Built Aircraft). The Nose Droop exists because the Feet between the Nose Wheel and the Undercarriage on Concorde is Noticeably Higher than on other aircrafts, this means that when the pilot is landing the aircraft, it is hard to see the ground because the attack angle for landing Concorde is quite steep... not only could the pilot accidentally hit the runway with the ''tail wheel'' but he could also Put the nose down too late which could result in either a go around or Missing the end of the runway which could cost lives depending on which Airport you land on. So engineers designed a way to prevent this by fitting a moveable nose cone on the nose... The nose droop was used when the pilot was taxiing, so he could see the ground, for Take-off and for landing. This solution worked and the Concorde had no accidents involving Runway overshoots and ''tail scraping'' if you like. The Nose Droop is now one of the most if not the most famous Concorde Features (apart from flying Supersonic!)
