This was my first car! White with tan interior and a manual transmission bought in 89. Hearing the sound of the starter brings back lots of memories from high school and college. Its been fun watching what your doing with it. These cars were easy to forget about since they were lacking power. Mine always sounded like it had gravel in the engine when I really got into it and tried to red line it. Keep going with it!
Seeing you put so much effort into this car, makes me miss my old 90 escort gt. I took good care of it bc it was in great condition and actually was a pretty reliable car
I am impressed, the scrubbing bubbles worked good. It detailed up nice. Never tried a air hose to spread stuff like that either... but I will on the next detail job I do. I am so glad you saved that cool old EXP. I can't remember the last time I have seen one on the road! I use to work on them when they were new cars, at the Ford dealer I worked at, back in the day.
My wife had an exp way back in the day lol. She told me that it wouldn’t spin the tries and I showed her the e-brake trick and dumped the clutch haha. The little held up well. Great video 👍👍
My father's been working on cars since the early 70s and one thing he taught me that he grew up doing working on cars is that you can use gasoline to clean up the engine bay, basically anything that has gunked up grease/oil. Use a parts brush, something abrasive and it'll have it brand spanking new
Looking good! Yeah I've had nothing but problems with PCV valves, these cars just route a tube from the valve cover back into the air box so you could do that or put a little filter over the PCV bung on the valve cover (haven't had issues with those)
A friend came over my house while I was away once and wanted to be nice and cleaned my bathtub with scrubbing bubbles. the next day, all the caulking and sealant had been eaten away and I had to reseal the entire bathtub. I dont know what it is, but on some silicones and rubber scrubbing bubbles can be very dangerous, I would not ever use that clean a car engine.
I’m going to the store this afternoon to buy a can of Scrubbing bubbles ! Gonna get my Fiero looking shiny ! I hate that the Fiero didn’t work out for you . I had an ‘83 EXP in the early 90’s, lots of fun in that car !!!
In the future, I would suggest that you do smaller areas with the SBs and then rinse... DO NOT LET IT DRY. I learned this trick from the owner while taking care (cleaning/waxing) of his P-51 Mustang
I tried LA's Totally Awesome de-greaser recently with great results! You won't be disappointed..cheap too, found at most dollar stores...Worked very well to clean interior cloth seats too!
Oh man, I haven't seen of those since about '93. My brother had an '83 EXP. It was navy blue. A lot like an Escort. The EXP was basically the Mustang LX 's little brother. They must be rare at this point.
I work at a jail and we use scrubbing bubbles for everything, it literally eats rust off of the steel bars. Eats paint off of the floor. It’s amazing stuff
It won as you can't find them anymore. Most of them ended up at the junk yard as they had all kinds of engine issues with the head gaskets and the heads getting warped.
I haven’t tried Scrubbing Bubbles, but you can dilute Super Clean down to 4-1 and it doesn’t smell bad either and supposedly less harmful to the environment. And you can use it on fabric interior as well as the engine bay, most wheels and tires.
WatchJRgo: Word of caution. The rubber seal located on the top lip of the firewall that tightly seals all along the top of the firewall against the hood is a very overlooked safety hazzard. This seal keeps carbon monoxide out of the air box intake for the passenger cabin of the car (fresh air/air conditioning/ heater). I noticed the seal on your car in this video is in very bad shape. On older cars with possible exhaust leaks in the engine bay this seal is crucial. It keeps out the old burned oily smells too. Many people who get head aches, or feel nauseous, and achy in old cars is caused from this seal not being in good condition. I though you may want to know this safety tip.
JR, have you ever tried Purple Power? Available form Walmart, cheap, with available one gallon refills for the sprayer. It's in the automotive section I use it on our boats as it makes the bilge so totally clean. Tty it on your Searay. Spray on, let sit for about a min, pressure wash off, it will blow your mind. Don't get it on your hands as it is a SERIOUS degreaser and will dry your skin out sooo fast. (crack) I find it better than anything, and use it for everything. Sage words from a native KCMO guy, now a Florida guy. NO SNOW!
I don't know if it makes any difference (or is even recommended) but I clean and oil my Weber airfilter like a K&N. I drive a lot of dirt roads and it has been great for over 10 years now
From someone who used to work for a manufacturer of car wash soaps I would recommend never using any interior shine products they have silicone in them and never ever come off the surface they go on Now this natural shine I’m guessing just uses less silicone but I could not say that is the case might have none
You should do a nation wide cragslist or offerup searches for a Ford EXP Turbo part out. They have a pretty cool factory body kit that would look great on yours.
Another great NATURAL cleaner is ZEP concentrated orange cleaner. Made from natural citrus oils, it's non-toxic and very powerful. I've been using it for years. It's cheap too, available at HOME DEPOT.
I use Oil Eater. It requires no scrubbing unless old, dirty oil or grease is caked on thick. Spray it on, wait a half hour or so and wash off. May require more than one application for caked on grime but it's easier to use and results are great. I think Gunk concentrate mixed with kerosene would work as well or better.
personally like" Chemical Guys Silk dressing" as a detailer over meguiers for underhood and interior. it leaves the plastics and rubbers with a natural deep shine. dries with no residue. and car doesnt look like it got slimed on. forgot to mention i use it on the tires as well which makes them look clean and new without the slimey look
Nice video bro. that light you use after you're done cleaning it can you please send me a link so I can get one of those super bright lights model number name Brand ? thank you so much Clint
You should give Trim Shine by Stoner Car Care a try for underneath the hood shine up. It does wonders on plastic and rubber hoses. Its silicone based and isn't greasy like Meguires natural shine. Just spray trim shine on and let it dry.
Me thinks Amberghini is just a wee bit jealous of the EXP. I know the feeling: I had a girlfriend who was jealous of my '68 Buick Electra. I swear I treated them the same - the Buick got spa days, & the GF got regular tuneups, LOL!
Hi. JR I'm new to your channel about a month now. I just have question on your Ford EXP The engine is a 4 cyl I know that, but is it the HSC 2.3 L with a 5 speed? I'm curious what carb and what kind of Hp. you're getting after all your mods. Keep up the entertaining, and fun to watch good work. Have a great one! 😎
Wow, you've got an original Ford EXP from 1982, the 1st year of that model! Those cars were rare to begin with... I used to own an 1985 EXP Turbo and those were the fastest and most powerful EXP's Ford offered( 120 HP) , but they could be a maintenance nightmare if you were not careful... I went through 2 timing belts in less than 80,000 miles; the turbo motors just put out too much heat, and was a shame Ford was too cheap to design the car with at least an intercooler or water cooled bearings in the turbo housings, other than that, the car was great on gas mileage ( 35-40 mpg on the highway). Lot's of good times and road trips with my EXP...
JR can you try Eagle One's Etching Mag Wheel Cleaner on your engine? It should be a lot more powerful than scrubbing bubbles. Try it on your wheels too, it'll take everything off like magic. It's made by Valvoline but I don't think it says it on the bottle. Wear gloves
O'Reilly's can get you a product called "Rage". Better than purple power. Bad ass spray on cleaner great on just about anything non fabric. A gallon cost me $18. 74, had more cars, bikes than I can count from classics to Porsche, Jaguars and Mercedes. At my age need all cleaning help I can get! Merry Christmas 😂
what can i use on the plastic parts to make it look nice and shiny. i clean my engine but now the plastic part looks dry so what can i use to make it shine and look good. i use the meguiars trim restore in the spray can and i didn't like it so what am i doing wrong and what should i use

this guy sure knows how to make a short story long
Seeing you put so much effort into this car, makes me miss my old 90 escort gt. I took good care of it bc it was in great condition and actually was a pretty reliable car

I am so glad you saved that cool old EXP. I can't remember the last time I have seen one on the road! I use to work on them when they were new cars, at the Ford dealer I worked at, back in the day.
I haven't found anything else better than scrubbing bubbles. Used it on 3 of my cars with zero issues.
My wife had an exp way back in the day lol. She told me that it wouldn’t spin the tries and I showed her the e-brake trick and dumped the clutch haha. The little held up well. Great video 👍👍

Scrubbing bubbles works on my headlights. It took off the oxidization and cleared up the headlights so works well.
Looking good! Yeah I've had nothing but problems with PCV valves, these cars just route a tube from the valve cover back into the air box so you could do that or put a little filter over the PCV bung on the valve cover (haven't had issues with those)

I dont know what it is, but on some silicones and rubber scrubbing bubbles can be very dangerous, I would not ever use that clean a car engine.
Thats an added 5hp from less heat. This EXP is gonna be a cavalier killer soon..
Brakleen works great for cleaning motors. Not the most environmentally friendly, but heavy grease falls off and doesn't leave any residue.
Your watch band matches the steering wheel cover. I love it! xD
they do all the scrubbing so don't have too- Joe Dirt
I’m going to the store this afternoon to buy a can of Scrubbing bubbles ! Gonna get my Fiero looking shiny !
I hate that the Fiero didn’t work out for you .
I had an ‘83 EXP in the early 90’s, lots of fun in that car !!!
Scrubbing Bubbles + brush works great on the inner fenders. Makes them look new and really adds to the total cleanliness / detail of a car.
Thank you for posting this! Very helpful
On your next cleaning video you should actually record closeup on before and after of what you cleaned so we can compare.
In the future, I would suggest that you do smaller areas with the SBs and then rinse... DO NOT LET IT DRY. I learned this trick from the owner while taking care (cleaning/waxing) of his P-51 Mustang
Kid, it's good to be young. You enjoy every minute. I wish you all the best.
I tried LA's Totally Awesome de-greaser recently with great results! You won't be disappointed..cheap too, found at most dollar stores...Worked very well to clean interior cloth seats too!
I love it, kmart has it by the gallon
Yeh. But will etch aluminum.
Oh man, I haven't seen of those since about '93. My brother had an '83 EXP. It was navy blue. A lot like an Escort. The EXP was basically the Mustang LX 's little brother. They must be rare at this point.
The gentleman is just like who you would like to hang out with, and he is the guy you wish would buy the house next to yours.
Cool Video man I'ma try to see you Saturday at cars and coffee
Its not how clean you can get the engine, its if it will start after cleaning.
I've been there they did start but ran very badly on the way home until it dried out. That as a good 20 years ago.
Great video, as always!
I work at a jail and we use scrubbing bubbles for everything, it literally eats rust off of the steel bars. Eats paint off of the floor. It’s amazing stuff
Such a sweet ride.
It won as you can't find them anymore. Most of them ended up at the junk yard as they had all kinds of engine issues with the head gaskets and the heads getting warped.
Plastic bag over the air cleaner would work great too. works great on bikes and quads too.. LOL
Speaking of things I just bought 🤭
WatchJRGo do tell. Lol
@@legendsofcaraudiobradnewso8424 yes... when in rome
Legends Of Car Audio Brad Newsome zip lock bags 👍🏻
My teenage car wash was next door to a Napa just in case
Awesome! I’d love to see a subwoofer install video on one of your cars, that way I can install one onto my exp correctly!
I used "Awesome" cleaner from the dollar store , worked great !
I love that stuff, I can buy it by the Gallon at KMart
Awesome products are good stuff. Dollar General sells their own brand ArmorAll. Recommend that too.
@@roaddog7542 same! I leave the engine running so it doesn't die.
Beast Mode They better as that stuff is toxic. I’d try Super Clean diluted 4-1, before ever using Awesome 1-1.
I haven’t tried Scrubbing Bubbles, but you can dilute Super Clean down to 4-1 and it doesn’t smell bad either and supposedly less harmful to the environment. And you can use it on fabric interior as well as the engine bay, most wheels and tires.
Hello Jrgo. Great video!
Ya might wanna try the new Meguires hyper dressing that Oreillys carries. Really shines tires, interiors and engine bays

scrubbing bubbles...ill have to give it a try!...thanks!
Helpful tip: I use a baby bottle brush when cleaning my engine. It can get into small places.
What this little car needs is the heart of a Foucs RS!

If you use polishing compound on the underside of the hood you can get rid of most of the discoloring.

Sounds......great!!!!
You forgot to mention Amber on the shout out thank you intro. What stand light is that?
Looks good. Don't see many cars like that in the northeast anymore
I was thinking about doing my 1.8t engine bay, do you think i should remove the battery first? I also have a sub wire attached.
I use Oil Eater. It requires no scrubbing unless old, dirty oil or grease is caked on thick. Spray it on, wait a half hour or so and wash off. Scrubbing bubbles..they do the work so you don’t have to!

Great video as usual! Am I the only one thinking, "Whats that oil pan doing on top of the engine?" when the hood opens at the car wash?
Nice video bro. that light you use after you're done cleaning it can you please send me a link so I can get one of those super bright lights model number name Brand ? thank you so much Clint

Can't believe your suggestion of using water over your emginet covered or not ...lol 😄
You should give the EXP treatment for your Camaro. Send that one to the Car wizard maybe?
Your watch matches your steering wheel cover perfectly haha!
Had the same thought
Me thinks Amberghini is just a wee bit jealous of the EXP. I know the feeling: I had a girlfriend who was jealous of my '68 Buick Electra.
I swear I treated them the same - the Buick got spa days, & the GF got regular tuneups, LOL!
Its nice that your apple nike watchband matches your steering wheel cover LOL, Nice pro tip on the Scrubbing Bubbles!
I love that, too! JR is Nike all the way.
Even though a million people said it already- bring bags to cover important electrics and air cleaner!!!
-. BUT GOOD JOB AS USUAL!!!!!! -
Wouldn't tire foam clean as well and protect hoses too
Man, use tire foam and watch that engine compartment SHINE!! Everything plastic and rubber becomes new looking again. Great video buddy. 👍
Is there any chemicals that might eat away at plastic, rubber? Will it provide protectant for rubber, plastic?
I've got a 92 Buick Regal Gran Sport Coupe that I want to clean the engine at a car wash like this but I'm afraid I might damage it. Thoughts?
The engine bay smells lemony fresh!
'Amberghini', very cute. Hope she likes the affectionate nickname. Great video too!
The thank you sounded like the Emmys..lol

Your pretty knowledgeable good channel
Don't forget to spray your wheel wells before the shows
The money JR saves on doing his own haircuts he spends on cleaning supplies.
Literally me I only buy car cleaning and detailing stuff lmao
His hair is pretty 😂
I for some reason really like the way that it sounds. To me it sounds different than a Honda.
Give us an update on how clean it stays after a few weeks
DIAMOND in the back A!
Did you see the way that Exp pulled away from that Magnum like it was standing still......clear some shelf space more trophies to come fo sure
Without the pc valve oil smoke will stay in the valve cover and turn back to oil and leave black gunk on the valve springs.
GOOD TO KNOW
Are you in the doghouse? Didn't hear you thank Amber-ghini?!
Nothing beats simple green!!!!
Would he nice nice to show a close up of the after and before.
use TIRE FOAM....it makes everything shine and with no scrubbing....cleans a lot better
Also helps the new dirt stick to the surface too!!! Lmao 🤣 DO NOT USE TIRE SHINE
Try Topcoat F11 works get on engine bey and entire car even the tires and windows. Can also use it on interiors, anything but fabric.
I use that to clean leather seats and it work great
You're gonna need to get a trophy case because I have a feeling there is gonna be more.

Yo what happened to the ford fiero that you got from the trade with the Lincoln towncar
You may consider Purple Power a harsh de-greaser but it's what I like to clean an engine with.
Cruise For Life Have you tried Super Clean?
O'Reilly's can get you a product called "Rage". Better than purple power. Bad ass spray on cleaner great on just about anything non fabric. @WatchJRGo Great Video! What kind of light is that????
Pretty sure that’s Amber’s make-up mirror.
She’s such a good sport JR, you’re a very lucky guy but I know I don’t have to tell you.
Tom from Toms turbo garage (might) like this :D
Wow, Are you going to get a Ford Probe next?? Please say second gen GT LOL
what can i use on the plastic parts to make it look nice and shiny. i clean my engine but now the plastic part looks dry so what can i use to make it shine and look good. i use the meguiars trim restore in the spray can and i didn't like it so what am i doing wrong and what should i use
Use some armor all tire shine. It cleans and shines rubber and plastic
Try Non Acid Wheel Cleaner, works better than anything iv ever used.
Where'd ya buy the light?
It's just a cheap ring light off Amazon, I need to keep it out of the shots but you know we work quickly! amzn.to/2GnxV0P
