I've now spent a full year learning game development in Unreal Engine 5, and today we look back at my progress of making my own racing game Apex Rush. It's been a long process and sometimes a slow one, but it's also been a very fun and fulfilling year!

Hey Erik I always love watching your stunting videos and now when I saw the first 6 months of the game and now this video it shows me how hard you and your team is working on apex rush the game feels like an huge inspiration to me and seeing you on the game development path that I want to be when I grow up feels really nice and once again you and apex rush has inspired me alot to finally take a step in unreal engine and game development soon. I hope apex rush grows huge on steam marketplace and gets popular among the fellow gamers as soon as it releases. ❤❤❤❤❤

I’m super excited for this to come out and see all your progress. In my personal opinion the biggest about of time spent making a racing game should be fluidity especially with drifting I want the car to flow and really carry its weight

The potential to share custom maps is very high, & it should give you more of a chance to make more content on the game as well, if us lot can make you a butch of maps challenge stunt maps to try out!! But overall, damn I'm so happy it's got this far especially since you've done the mostly on your own (part from obviously watching yt vids & just general research), congrats man, I've been here since day one & am really happy where the game is at now & how far you gone with it!!

Love the project, keep it up!! Was watching your stunt videos way back in the day, but eventually, they started to fell too repetitive and not worth my time if I'm honest(I fell like you kinda feel the same way). I'm glad that you found this new hobby, and that you are growing together with your audience:) I'm glad you found this new way to entertain us:>(Your game reminds me so much of my favorite game of all times called Trackmania! maybe that's one of the reasons I love what you're doing here:>)

I guess we started at the same time learing UE5. I also made the "mistake" to go too ambitious for the first game, but you man - wow you nailed it. It´s amazing how far you and the game got. You absolutly deserve it and i wish you all the best. Been playing since the first public demo and to be honest the game dev thing was the reason to subscribe :) Great content, love to see more
I'm so hyped. For real just the type of game I need. One little thing, that would be very sick for you to add is maybe a UI- Scale Slider, so we could play it away while sitting further back, whilst still being able to read stuff

Speaking about optimization, do you see it feasible for this to run on a Steam Deck eventually? Is it something you're aiming towards? I sure hope so, as it's my only "gaming computer" haha. Best of luck with the rest of the development and I hope to do a racing game myself as well in the future!

I can't wait for this to be released, considering the fact that this channel was the reason I got into GTA V back 10 years ago, and that was the game that made me enter the games industry and go to university to study it. I can't wait to see what this full game is gonna be like

As a big trackmania enjoyer, the time trial mode and global leaderboards are very exciting, definitely will be buying it just to get some WRs 😎

Phenomenal Game so far, definitely hyped to grab a copy on steam when it releases. I am a Steam Achievement Hunter so my wish of course would be for you to add some cool and quality steam achievements. For example, I do love a cool looking 100% Achievement / Platinum-Trophy-Achievement which unlocks when every other Achievement in the Game has been unlocked. These kind of Achievements are the best to feature in you Steam Achievement Showcase on your Steam-Profile Page :)

one suggestion, when you showed first person view while drifting would it be possible to make it so the steering wheel does a full rotation like in a real car? it would be so much more satisfying

Hey I would love to drift in this game on a wheel but seeing how it works t looks pretty arcadey. If you added like a toggle in a settings menu or something for arcade physics mode Im sure it would attract more of the like asseto corsa drifting demographic.
This actually handles more like a sim than arcade since it’s all simulated physics :) excited to get some feedback on this drifting soon!

One thing i should mention is that you should probably implement deterministic physics similar to that of trackmania. This makes it so that the car reacts exactly the same on different PC's.
Unreal Engine does not have deterministic physics. It still runs the physics simulation accurately across different fps thanks to substepping of the physics, so it’s not framerate dependent.
@@Hazardous hopefully no problems arise from this, as I'm expecting people to make press forward maps (maps that only require you to press forward) in the track editor. Best of luck with your project.
Press forward maps will not work as it is not deterministic, it might work to an extent but any bumps or hits of the car will not send the car flying the same way every time. Thanks!

A sedan drift car would be sick. The toyota jzx10 and nissan skyline sedan are legendary drift cars. Also, would the game come to console ever?

$15 is fine. At some point I would really want performance on older slower hardware to be good. You’ll get way more purchases if you’re game can run on a potato
