Ohmygosh Emily!!!! Thank you so much for showing this!!! I have been quilting for about 15 years now and I've never understood how to spray baste. I always pin baste over a table, which takes considerably longer than your method! Ha! When I've tried to learn how to spray baste in the past, other quilters described spraying outside with the quilt hanging (?!) or laying quilts out on the driveway or in the yard, but never actually showing HOW they were doing this. Your method is easy and makes sense because you are showing us!!! Thank you, thank you!!!
This is my project for today, I was terrified. Only my third quilt. I now feel so much better with watching your process. I have so much to learn, at 68 I never thought I could do this. YOU make me feel more comfortable and confident. I think this will be much better than pinning. I’m so excited!
Thank you!!! I’m a new quilter and have been watching loads of UA-cam videos on how to baste, machine quilt, bind, etc. I learned more from your videos than I did in the many hours I’ve spent watching other videos. I finished my first 2 quilts with ease.
thanks - just a note that there is a right and wrong side to batting and it helps knowing so easier to stitch. Google it as there is plenty of info on how to tell which is the right side
I'm getting ready to spray baste a king sized quilt and I just needed some inspiration, motivation, courage...I really don't know what it is I'm looking for but after watching your video I think I'm ready to go!
Thank you so much! I just did two baby quilts using your method of basting and wavy stitching and they turned out so well. The second was even better than the first.
Thank you so much Emily for your very informative and helpful videos!! I'm fairly new to this process, and every new tip really helps. I love your video on the wavy quilting stitch. I didn't even realize it, but my machine can actually do that stitch. I'm anxious to try it out!
Emily thank you so much for this video. I have been spray basting quilts for about 5 years and find it so frustrating. The backing always crinkles. After watching your video I tried again with a king size quilt and hey presto! Success!
Your video tutorials are SO well done! I really appreciate all the time & effort you put in each & every time! On this one, I found myself holding my breath as you were spraying! 🥺 PLEASE wear a mask; that stuff is in fact toxic! I understand why you didn't for the video, but do be careful!
Just subscribed! Thanks for this. I don’t do so well on the floor these days -tried doing it on the lawn…meh. Maybe I should make smaller quilt tops! Lol Thanks for sharing!
I just found your channel. I subscribed. Love your videos. Saw the one with the zig zag quilting. There was no information on how you started. What size zig zag do you use? I am new to quilting.
This was very helpful! Thank you. As a new quilter, it was good to see. I am curious tho, you did not address when you have fabric that ravels a bit when piecing your quilt top (ie Riley Blake fabric ravels a lot). Do you have to trim the raveling? It seems to get worse the more you trim. Also, have you ever tried Elmer's glue to baste? I have heard good things about that method too.
Thank you for this video. I am a new quilter and found it very helpful. Question - are you able to reuse the same drop cloths for multiple projects, or if overspray happens does it make the batting tacky for future use? I love the quilt pattern. Would make a great baby quilt. I will be going to your website to order it!
I wish I had room to spray basting on the floor. I pin my fabric to my huge design wall, similar to yours, but mine is laying horizontal. I use old sheets to cover my floor and sewing machine. Make sure to use 505, not the cheaper brands and, from experience, don't buy June Taylor basting spray.
This is why my quilt tops are waiting for so long to quilt! I absolutely hate spray basting! The smell and over-spray on my new floors is just too scary! Could someone invent a better option, PLEASE?
Excellent description of all the steps and how to do it correctly so as not to have me doing it over and over again! I'm prone to being in a hurry!!❤
Thank you for this video. So many questions answered for my 1st quilt!
Me too 👍

What an inspiration! Never gonna pin baste again! My knees and my back thank you! 😃

OMG. I think I can do it after watching you. I am on the floor, also.
Just subscribed, I use this method but not on my knees! I'd never get up again! LOLHi from Tasmania Australia 💗💗👏👏👍👍👊👊

You're welcome! Yes, I usually wear a mask but didn't for this video. I also make sure the windows are open.

Grazie del bellissimo tutorial!❤❤❤

Do you back stitch before and the end of each row. I did enjoy your videos
I don't do any backstitching. I overstitch about an inch on both ends and then the binding secures it all down.

Yes! I reuse the same drop clothes over and over. The stays some what tacky but it's not too bad.
💝💝
What kind of batting did you use? It looked fairly smooth to begin with (unlike what I am using). TIA
This is most likely Quilters Dream 100% cotton Select.
@@quiltylovevery good tip 👍
I would need knee pads! Great tutorial to see it actually done this way.

Why don’t you use June Taylor spray
This is why my quilt tops are waiting for so long to quilt! I absolutely hate spray basting! The smell and over-spray on my new floors is just too scary! Could someone invent a better option, PLEASE?
Quilters Select sells a basting powder. I haven’t tried it yet.
I hear you! That's why using a long arm quilter is such a treat. But I do like the speed of spray basting over pin basting :)
