Thank you so much for this i actually caved and bought for 60 dollars Vexpressions artists kits and while they sound really close to the artists kits i did have the problem most td-11 owners have and that kits that are made for higher end models have issues with making kits for them due to the lack of parameters, sounds available, and compatible hardware, etc. They for the most part was just being piped to the wrong pads(e.g the ride cymbal and parameters would be piped via midi to the crash and vice versa.) TL;DR i stumbled upon this video recently looking for a very decent blank slate of sorts rock snare drum sound and thanks to your video i finally found the perfect snare sound that actually sounds like its working with the limitations of the TD-11 module instead of trying to forcefully create a kit that circumvents them. thanks to how clearly you are explaining how you made your kit in your video i have a better understanding of how to play around with parameters and not end up with something that sounds like one of Lars Ulrich's pilot kits for St Anger.
On a similar thread, I was looking into expanding the module sounds via drumtec software update for TD-11(KV). There's plenty of scope to shape the defaults by using either different shells and cymbals or even the 'ambience' room, size shape and type. Ironically i've been listening to, and watching many of your lessons with those familiar sounds literally at my fingertips from either my sticks or the same module.
Thanks Mike for these settings. I have been fiddling with my TD15 and cannot find suitable sound that is flexible on most songs I cover Really appreciate it, you're a blessing!!!
I'm about to start dress rehearsals for a theatre production running over the next few weeks and have set up the TD-11 with these settings. Sounding great. Thanks heaps!
I seriously love the way your drum kit sounds I normally play at TD 17 at my home but at my school where I am the drummer for the band we have a TD 11 so this is super helpful for getting some better sounds out of that one. Also I have to give you credit for the way you make it sound not just the sounds in the module but the way you play you really bring a level of life and dynamic to the electron a kit that I rarely seen before. So to all the people who say that electronica drums can’t sound great will take a listen to this of course acoustic drum still have the upper hand but not all electronic drum kits are absolute BS
Mike, as always you seen to preempt my questions. Thank you for sharing your custom kit you have developed. Ive always thought the sound is awesome. I shall def be trying your settings out on my TD9, Thanks man.

Thanks for the informative vid 🙏 What about overall Dynamic range? I feel like I can’t tune in enough of the quieter end of things. Like I gotta consciously strike super softly or they quickly become louder than they should to my ear. A tutorial on the sensitivity/force curve etc side of things would be awesome
Thanks for watching man. I personally find the dynamic range works great - it's not EXACTLY the same feel as acoustic for me, but essentially I find this kit responds in the same way, I use all the same techniques, stick heights etc. Everything feels very slightly "softer" to the touch than my acoustic kit, especially the snare - but otherwise feels great to me and dynamic are good. Got the basic snare pad settings set as follows: Pad Type: PD-128 (which is what I'm playing) Sensitivity: 8 Threshold: 0 Curve: Linear On the "Advanced" menu I've left everything on their default settings. Clearly the physical tension of the head makes a difference too - I just do what I'd on an acoustic snare - tension the top head for best playing response - nice and tight but not ridiculous!

Hi Mike, thanks so much for these settings. Just seeing whether it's different if I apply your settings to an existing kit (eg Studio), vs. applying your settings to a 'User kit'? I'm thinking the end result should be the same, but not sure if there are other 'hidden' settings that could make a difference to the sound? Also do you change any of the effects like room size, wall type? cheers
