You really know what you're doing. You have a very good understanding of how electronic drums work, and that's why you always have the best sounding e-kits ! Straight out of the box, e-drums are always to sensitive, meaning you will get the "loudest hit" sound even if you only hit with medium force. That'S why they sound fake and that kills the dynamic range. You trick of setting the sensitivity a little lower works really well to increase dynamic range feeling of an e-drum. The "hardest hit" should really happen only when you hit the hardest, and you got that correct ! I've seen you're new vids with the Strike kit. I never thought I would love an Alesis drum that much ! Keep up the good work !
Perfect vid!!! i just picked up a 2nd hand TD11KV + extra CY12. Thanks for taking the time to explain how you arrived at a sound you like, especially the pad volumes/sensitivity/velocity curves side of the tuning. My module came with the Vexpression Apex kit pack installed. The kits tones sound good but IMO still need that same “balancing” the stock kits do. Your vid explains exactly the knowledge iv been searching for. Youdaman
Thanks so much for this video man! I took a few of your tips and applied them to my custom kit and it sounds and feels SO much better with just a few simple adjustments
Could you please share your live kit's tune and muffling settings for all toms, snare and kick? Also do you set all your pads sensitivity to 6? or just the snare? Great video, thanks for sharing. Thanks again.
Great review. Really shows the better things this module is capable of. Question-I own this as well and really like the kick you programmed on the live kit; do you remember the instrument settings you used for it? Also, you mention using studio reverb, but which wall type did you go with? I’ve found the studio reverb causes some undesirable high frequency reflections with the Solid Maple K that I don’t hear with yours. thanks
Dennis Rivenburg Thanks man. I'm using drum splutters from drunsplitters.com You can only use these kind though. Regular stereo splitters won't work. Then just hook it up and assign different sounds to Rim and Head.
Great Video....I used your setting you have suggested Live, what i found was the snare was not very cutting in the mix, but the feel was great than the stock kits. Can you suggest any settings to up the snare sound, the snare seems to get lost with the rest of the band. Would it be the EQ? Also do eq to your own mixer before going to the desk? thanks for your tips
peter pelluet the snare never got lost for me. Maybe look into adjusting the sensitivity and curve? Not sure what pad you have but make sure a regular hit matches the "preview" level and sound. Outside of that make sure there isn't too much reverb on. After all that just adjust the eq on the mixer going to the PA to taste. The more high db push you do will boost the cymbals though so keep that in mind. I usually boost the high 2-4db and cut the low 2-4db but again that's just for my PA.
SiREN2173 thank you, the band did say they thought the cymbals were a little low..but I wasn't using a mixer out to the desk. Which is what I will do next time, may be that is part of the problem. Still great, thanks for the tips..might try that Alexis 12" snare to, I know what you mean when you hit the middle of the Roland pads. :)
SiREN-DRUMS hey bro can you make a vid how did you get the tuning on your custom drum kit like those tuning, muffling, tone color etc. and instrument use like maple for toms? I’ve been looking for this custom kit this entire time in the past 2 yrs but couldn’t find anything then I saw this vid
You’re using drum splitters to have that many pieces?? Where are u connecting those splitters?? There only the one extra jack to add a cymbal on the Td-11
Hey buddy what are you snare sensitivity settings for the snare because i recently got a pdx100 for the snare and i have a roland td11 was hoping you can help.
Check out the sound editions of drum-tec germany. They sound amazing! They are pretty cheap and they have several ones for the TD-11. ua-cam.com/video/z5pwkFQAtQs/v-deo.html www.drum-tec.com/modules/drum-tec-sound-editions
Hey my buddy, where did you get the clamps that attach to the dm10X rack to hold extra cymbals? I'm having trouble finding clamps that would fit around the chrome plated rack that have a hole to hold a cymbal arms? please let me know - Where you got them? What they're called? How much they cost? Pretty please 😁 Also I had to buy a new snare stand to replace the dm10X snare stand it came with..wth? lol hahaha Because the snare stand it came with is for a midget way too low.. lol
Hey buddy Love watching "YOUR VIDEOS!" Question?? How did you get that many cymbals to work with a td11????.. I thought it just has a group of cables for 1-Snare, 2-Toms, 1-Floor Tom, 1-Crash, 1-Ride??. But you have 2-Crashes 1-Ride, 1-CHINA Hat??. Please lol hahaha 😁 tell me your ancient Chinese secrets???
Peter Griffin I used 3 splitters from www.drumsplitters.com which I now am selling on Reverb because I can't use them with my TD25. They're normally $20each but I'm selling 3 of them for $12 each. reverb.com/item/4710806-electronic-drum-splitter Let me know if you're interested in them and I'll change the ad for however many you want so it's only one $3 shipping cost. If you check out my "How to expand your electronic kit for cheap" I explain how to use them
SiREN2173 - Cool copy.. I just thought that splitter wires wouldn't work on the td11??.. Because they won't work on my td25??. But you're saying they will work with a td11?? So td11 Toms are duel zones? Shoot I have a td25 module, but I still have a older Roland module maybe it would work? Are you on Ebay? I could buy them on my Ebay account if you're on ebay?..
Peter Griffin they work with all modules that allow you to put two sounds per pad which for Roland only excludes the TD25 and TD4 unfortunately. I only have then up on Reverb but if you make an account it takes PayPal or credit card no problem.
SiREN2173 - Also, lol hahaha sorry another question? In this video are you using Alesis DM10X pads??.. Or what pads are these in this particular video? Because I'm going to be using Huge 11inch Simmons rubber pads, But if in this video your using Alesis DM10X pads it looks like they actually work well??
Peter Griffin yes the Alesis pads work flawlessly with Roland modules. The drum pads I prefer actually especially for the snare and the cymbals besides the hi hat work perfectly. That being said even the hi hat cymbal can be used just as a single zone crash or for anything else besides the hi hat because you'll want a dual zone cymbal for the hi hat. In this video I'm using one 12" and 2 10" Alesis mesh pads and a Roland PD-125 for the snare but I'm selling two of the 12" pads wether it's the two 12" Alesis Mesh pads or one of those and the Roland PD-125 and keeping one for the snare. I only have one 12" Alesis pad up for sale but if you are interested in both or anything let me know and we can make a deal for two. In any case here are the ads and knock $20 off what I have them at. reverb.com/item/4827259-alesis-12-mesh-pad reverb.com/item/4827197-roland-pd-125
@siren2173 Love your channel and setup! Quick question, I have an a2e conversion kit that I did myself. I also have addictive drums 2. With that being said do u think it matters what module i choose between the td 11 and alesis nitro
Thanks for watching! If you are running VST, Roland modules are known to be the very best for that application. So yes TD11 or any Roland module you should be all good!
SiREN2173 Thanks bro. So I guess some of the rims were replaced with the expanded input. Last question, what would be a good upgrade to the stock td11 snare? Need a better feel, beefier. Would a PD128 and PD140 be overkill because the module is limited?
Hey Siren, Great sounds! Do you have a file for your recording drum set for the TD11? I would sure like to have this. Thanks again for the awsome vid! SRS
Unfortunately I don't have the TD11 anymore so I am unable to do that otherwise I definitely would for ya. I do list all the instruments for each kit in the video though so the only thing you'll have to do is get the volume adjusted for a good mix.
How are you recording the TD-11 to a multitrack session on your D.A.W.? It only has a stereo out and there is no driver to send each instrument to its own MIDI channel.
I didn't send multi track. Only as you said, stereo output to show what the module can do on it's own. If you're using a DAW tho, I would highly suggest to just run a midi cable or USB and use a drum vst. Then you'll be able to get multi tracks etc and much better sounds. Steven Slate Drums 5.5 or EzDrummer3 are great affordable ones for mix ready drums. Slate also has a free version.
thanks for posting! I just bought a TD11k this weekend. Got the base model because I plan to upgrade the drums. By the way you've got great chops! I plan to steal a few of your moves haha jk. Thanks for the inspiration brother!
Hello sir when I connect my td 11 to powerd speaker through LR they dnt sound good and clear but when connected through phones they sound good ... Why?
Does anyone know how to change the crash sound of the ride cymbal on the edge? I can’t figure it out. I’m also finding that I can’t get the snare drum high enough I’m always hitting my leg when I lean into rim shots I don’t have this problem with my acoustic kit. Thx.
Hey buddy couple questions for ya? Could you figure out how to or know how to download that "Swoosh sound effect to be able to trigger it with a pad ?? Don't know if ya had anytime to mess around with it? Also I'm thinking of selling my td25 module and just using a td11 like you have in the video here.. Do you believe I could still accomplish that Huge Def Leppard Snare with the Td11 if I did?? Would need to know if I could re-create that Huge Gated reverb Def Leppard Snare on the td11 first before I make a decision??.. Let me know if you have time to mess with it..Appreciate it buddy!
LoL hahaha 😁 OMG right??. lol I know it sounds crazy but here me out. After listening to the "Recording kit you made with the Td11 - Dude you're a Drum God! lol It's exactly all I need - Your recording kit on this video is so close to my td25 ( For what I play) I thought to myself - Well shit, I could just setup a td11 just like you did and sell my td25 module and make back $900bucks! I'll still have a good huge sounding kit and have some dough $$ lol hahaha 😁 But seriously before I pull the trigger on my Grand-Idea I was wondering if you think I could create that Huge Def Leppard Snare with Big Gated Reverb on the td11??
Peter Griffin haha ya man I did really like that recording kit patch! As for a similar sounding kit as the one I did on the 25, you can definitely get close but the hi hat won't be because there's only one hi hat in the TD11. That's a minor detail though.
Peter Griffin the toms won't be the same either. The 25 just has so much more options to be able to really nail the sound you want. That being said I can show you how to adjust the reverb similarly to get the same feel like the kit I did on the 25. I think probably using the recording kit from this video will be a good start but with the reverb adjustments
Peter Griffin as for the swoosh effect, you can't import samples to the 25 or the 11. Both modules have a reverse cymbal sound though. To get the sound from the track you'll need to run it from a back track. It's easy to make backtracks but maybe a little intimidating if you're not comfortable recording and using a DAW. To make the sound all you do is record one hit with the snare that you will be using with the reverb at a good level and good decay then once recorded select and reverse the selected section. I can walk you through it more in detail if you decide to do that.
Hey thanks for watching! Unfortunately I don't have the module anymore so that is not possible but I believe I did mention every instrument that makes up the kits in the video.
""PLEASE HELP" Do you remember how to get to the section on the td11 to mess with the Volume control of each pad? Like turning down the Cymbals? With the td15 I haven't figured out how to get to the place where it will allow me to Choose volume levels? Nor Curve? When I'm in the sections to tweak each drum sound it only gives me like if I'm trying to change my snare it has - 1-Choose a different snare. 2-Muffling settings 3-tuning 4 - snare buzz 5-Color That's it! I haven't figured out how to add "EFFECTS" to a Snare or Tom??. I've just have had to choose a snare or Tom out of whatever it already has and I have to be happy with it lol hahaha 😁 I mean I can tune it, I can change the muffled sound, add snare buzz - But can't find where I can add heavy Gated sound, haven't found where I can add or decrease reverb, nor add any other effects to a Tom or snare? Is there a section that I'm missing somewhere?
Peter Griffin the curve should be under options, pad settings if I remember correctly. The instrument volume adjustment is moved from where it is with the td11. If there's a section called mixer it might be there. To adjust individual reverb levels per instrument you go under the ambience tab and if you look at the bottom of the screen there should be a highlighted option above the menu button where you can press the menu button and you'll see a mixer to where you can adjust the reverb
SiREN2173 - Okay will do.. Oh hey also I looked into the Drum-tec all black mesh head conversion kit for the Alesis Dm10X it's only about $200 bucks! That's cheap! I'm shocked ..unless I'm lookin at it wrong? Unless I find out its $200per mesh? lol hahaha 😁 But that's what it says on their website it says $200 for the kit conversion
CelluloidHoax oh well ya this will only work with the td11 if you're talking about the instruments assigned to each pad because the td11 is the only one with those instruments. The principle of cymbal volume and sensitivity adjustment can be applied to any module if you are trying to fit into the mix good.
drummerman79 with drum splitters from www.drumsplitters.com you can split the stereo cables going to the toms to add extra cymbals. In the module you just make sure "link" is unhighlighted and you can select a different sound for the rim zone of the toms. You will also want to adjust trigger sensitivity and curve of course to work best with whichever cymbal
i got the td11k and on some pads i want a echo and on others i dont i want a delay on others but it seems i have to have delay or echo on all of them and then mute what i want. could anyone help me??
Calin Chin there is a way to adjust individual levels. Try to see if there's any buttons highlighted/available to press when you're in the fx menu you're looking at. I can't remember what button it is but you'll know if you get to the right menu because you'll see faders for all the pieces of the kit. You can even send the fx to left or right.
Hey everybody should know this! He just made this td11 sound better than Rolands update package that you can buy n download to your td11 off their Website for $30 bucks! lol hahaha 😁 So people "DON'T BUY THE UPGRADE!' Just watch this guy's videos for "FREE" and do exactly what he shows you! I just compared/listened to both the $30 6-kit upgrade -then this video - Trust me his sounds much better!!
esta batería no es la TD-11, si no me creeis id a Thomann y observad la foto de dicho modelo. Lo único que quizás haya de la TD-11 es el Módulo. El resto de piezas como mínimo son de la TD-25 ó TD-30 this drums is not the TD-11, if you do not believe me go to Thomann and to observe the photo of that model TD 11. The only thing that may be of the TD-11 is the Module. The rest of the pieces are at least the TD-25 or TD-30

It's sad but edrums are kicking ass everywhere especially in studios, it's easy and simple , saving way more time than loads and loads mic setups for acoustics
SiREN2173 cool and it doesn’t work through midi on the 11 its designed with a midi out not in but thx for answering and i was just asking because i have a old simmons module i wanna hook it to my module to get some simmons samples added onto a few external pads on my kit
Liked for putting all th epoints in the description and getting straight to the point. Nice!
You really know what you're doing. You have a very good understanding of how electronic drums work, and that's why you always have the best sounding e-kits ! Thank you for the walk through, seeing this in 2021 cause now I have the TD-11😊

Thanks so much for this video man! I took a few of your tips and applied them to my custom kit and it sounds and feels SO much better with just a few simple adjustments
Great vid. I've had my TD-11k for a year and have fighting getting good sounds. Gonna try this right now.
td11 to the limits. good video.
Thank you so much helped me with my sound desiginig for live concerts I use roland td 11 kv thanks for sharing

I’ve found the studio reverb causes some undesirable high frequency reflections with the Solid Maple K that I don’t hear with yours.
thanks
Roland is Roland!! Awesome video buddy... cheers from another e-drummer
Arlindo Cardoso thanks man!
Dennis Rivenburg Thanks man. I'm using drum splutters from drunsplitters.com You can only use these kind though. Regular stereo splitters won't work. Then just hook it up and assign different sounds to Rim and Head.

hey bro.. I love your videos.. thanks for this.. quck question does this pretty much apply with all roland module? especially td17? appreciate it bro
Rick Manlunas yes it about exactly the same
what did you use to record dis?
Went from module to interface (tascam us1800) then into Cubase
SiREN-DRUMS hey bro can you make a vid how did you get the tuning on your custom drum kit like those tuning, muffling, tone color etc. and instrument use like maple for toms? I’ve been looking for this custom kit this entire time in the past 2 yrs but couldn’t find anything then I saw this vid

Thanks mate! Your lits sounds just sooooo good. It wouls be great to have all the settings in video discripton 😉
Yes kind of like that, it’s on the open high hat
Hey Siren, Great sounds! Do you have a file for your recording drum set for the TD11? I would sure like to have this. Thanks again for the awsome vid! SRS

Why?
Im a late bloomer on TD11k, is there a chance you could share your patches? :)
Do you use the PDX-100 setting for the drum pads?
Yes I think I did but it's been a while. That would make sense though 10" pad preset for a 10" pad.
Hi! How did you connect so many cymbals? TD11 only supports hi-hat + crash + ride and only one additional input

How did you connect those many cymbals to the TD-11?
Mark Laszlo cable splitters from drumsplitters.com
Sounds great. Any way to upload those presets??
Hey thanks for watching! Unfortunately I don't have the module anymore so that is not possible but I believe I did mention every instrument that makes up the kits in the video.
Hi ! What ride cymbal pad are you using ?
Hey thanks for watching! In this video I am using the 16" Alesis DM 3zone cymbal.
did you go over the settings you have for the practice kit?
Sebastian Garza I did yes
Can anyone tell me if get good drums can work with the td11 and Mac?
""PLEASE HELP" Do you remember how to get to the section on the td11 to mess with the Volume control of each pad? Like turning down the Cymbals? With the td15 I haven't figured out how to get to the place where it will allow me to Choose volume levels? Nor Curve? When I'm in the sections to tweak each drum sound it only gives me like if I'm trying to change my snare it has -
1-Choose a different snare.
2-Muffling settings
3-tuning
4 - snare buzz
5-Color
That's it!
Peter Griffin ya that's one of my favorite things about the 25 besides the incredible sounds. Keep me posted and good luck!
Peter Griffin $200 or 200 euros?
SiREN2173 - $200. German money I guess right? Drum Tec I think is Germany right?. So I don't know how much that is in American dollars tho??. lol
Will that set up work with most Roland Modules or just this one?
CelluloidHoax Alesis pads work just fine with any Roland module. You'll just have to adjust some of the sensitivity.
SiREN2173 actually I was talking about the settings you put into the module to make them sound more realistic
But thank you 😊
CelluloidHoax oh well ya this will only work with the td11 if you're talking about the instruments assigned to each pad because the td11 is the only one with those instruments. The principle of cymbal volume and sensitivity adjustment can be applied to any module if you are trying to fit into the mix good.
How it's possible that in a TD11, you have so many cymbals? O_O
ThEnEwBrOwNsOuNd Splitter cables
How did you get so many cymbals on that module?????
drummerman79 with drum splitters from www.drumsplitters.com you can split the stereo cables going to the toms to add extra cymbals. In the module you just make sure "link" is unhighlighted and you can select a different sound for the rim zone of the toms. You will also want to adjust trigger sensitivity and curve of course to work best with whichever cymbal
How are you able to connect so many attachments to the td11???
I'm curious also I am assuming using splitters perhaps ?
how to add more pad
i got the td11k and on some pads i want a echo and on others i dont i want a delay on others but it seems i have to have delay or echo on all of them and then mute what i want. could anyone help me??
Calin Chin there is a way to adjust individual levels. Try to see if there's any buttons highlighted/available to press when you're in the fx menu you're looking at. I can't remember what button it is but you'll know if you get to the right menu because you'll see faders for all the pieces of the kit. You can even send the fx to left or right.
Thanks!! :)
did you use drumsplitters?
Matt Dyer I did
How is the vh11 on the td11 module?
legitMASKA sorry for the late reply. The vh11 works great!
Re: Curves. EXP stands for Exponential, not Expression.
El resto de piezas como mínimo son de la TD-25 ó TD-30
this drums is not the TD-11, if you do not believe me go to Thomann and to observe the photo of that model TD 11. The only thing that may be of the TD-11 is the Module. The rest of the pieces are at least the TD-25 or TD-30
amienos I'm sorry I don't speak Spanish :(

amienos correct the video is about dialing in the td11. The module is what matters. These tips will translate to any pads with the td11 module.
It's sad but edrums are kicking ass everywhere especially in studios, it's easy and simple , saving way more time than loads and loads mic setups for acoustics
A dog invaded cenario. Lol
on the td11 can i chain another module to it through the midi
legitMASKA I don't believe so but you can check by googling a picture of the back
legitMASKA if you are getting another module anyways might as well just get a Roland and link via aux in/phones out. Would be easier than midi.
SiREN2173 cool and it doesn’t work through midi on the 11 its designed with a midi out not in but thx for answering and i was just asking because i have a old simmons module i wanna hook it to my module to get some simmons samples added onto a few external pads on my kit
