  • Welcome to Veggy 360! Earlier this year, I planted 8 varieties of dwarf tomatoes. In this video I share with you how these dwarf tomatoes did in various categories. I also share what I learned from growing these dwarf tomatoes, and what I will be doing differently next year.
A key focus of my Veggy 360 channel is “gardening in small spaces,” so I was very excited when I found out about dwarf tomatoes.
    • Full sized fruits on plants that grow only 3-4 ft tall
    • Compact growth habit makes them perfect for growing in containers and taller raised beds
The winners of each category are:
    • Best flavor: Tanager
    • Best for containers: Mocha’s Cherry
    • Best for taller raised beds (5-way tie based on yield, flavor & size): Adelaide Festival, Maralinga, Sweet Scarlet, Rosella Crimson, Oriole
    • Best yield: Tanager

Thanks for your review of the dwarfs! It’s great to see how they do in different seasons and in different climates and I always end up having a different favourite each season in Australia 😃 Last season it was Sneaky Sauce.

Thank you for all your work in co-founding the Dwarf Tomato Project! Thanks to the leadership that you and Craig have provided, y'all have blessed so many gardeners in so many countries with a rich selection of dwarfs. I too enjoy hearing how different varieties do in different climates, and I look forward to trying more varieties. I will definitely be adding Sneaky Sauce to the list for this year!

@@veggy360 It’s a pleasure being able to bring these to the public worldwide 😁 You’ll find that even your favourites don’t give their full potential each season, so I always encourage people to try them a few different summers. Sneaky Sauce outlasted everything in my worst ever season, producing about 40 tomatoes on one plant. We had so much rain that most plants just refused to set fruit and got diseased extremely fast but Sneaky Sauce didn’t seem to care at all 🤩

Did you consider growing the Dwarf Purple Heart? It did fantastic on my garden in Canada, very resistant plant, high yelds of meaty, purple, heart shaped tomatoes.

I will definitely try that one this year. Tomatoes in our area were hit hard by early blight this year, I am looking for very resistant plants. Thank you for your reco!

I only just discovered your channel and have subscribed as I really like it. I'm just trying out my first dwarf tomato project toms this year (in Australia so heading into summer) - Tasmanian Chocolate and Gondwana Lava. A couple of your plants are a little bigger than I was imagining - I'm going to need a strong cage by the looks of it! Love the idea of dwarf toms and the idea of the project.

I am so happy that you will be trying some dwarf toms I will be adding to my "collection" next year so please let me know how Tasmanian Chocolate and Gondwana Lava do for you.
I too was surprised at how large some of the dwarf tomato plants got. Tanager and Maralinga seemed to be the largest but I will definitely be planting both of them next year. Strong cages are definitely a good idea. I actually had to use a stake for the taller ones to better support them.
Thank you for watching, and I look forward to hearing your dwarf toms do!

Hope you enjoy Gondwana Lava, it was my favourite tomato of the season a couple years ago ☺️
