And you have no problem with medals. And they count as a main version. And it's unfair to say they're bad or slow, because they aren't.
Sonic 06, even in the state we got it in, is unironically one of my favorite Sonic games. I think if it wasn't rushed it could've been one of the greatest Sonic games, hell the best game of that year even. Cold take, I know.
I remember having a good time with Sonic Heroes. It was my first 3D Sonic game, so whatever flaws it had, I was able to live with and I got through it with a smile on my face. I even didn’t mind Sonic 06 all that much. It was broken beyond all belief, but there was something about the game that kept me engaged with it.
Sonic Heroes was my childhood and I had a lot of fun Shadow the Hedgehog the Game kind of ruined why I like Shadow. He is a Hero who takes protecting the world seriously but has a soft side for others and is will to help Sonic and his friends, he’s at his best when he is with Rouge and Omega. This game was trying too hard to make Shadow edgy, be heartless towards others and realistic and darker just because Shadow is a darker character due to his appearance and force him to swear and use guns with the story that makes no sense. And Eggman reveals that Shadow is the Real Shadow all along in the final Super Shadow fight. Sonic 06...killed the series in a bad way, the only thing it did right is make Shadow story interesting and dud Team Dark Justice in their friendship, Even thought I Hate Omega’s Voice and I’m not a fan of the 4kids cast. Shadow personality was perfect in 06 despite the Game best no terrible in gameplay and story. I got a whole argument on this but I know 3 people why I hate this game.
Pup, my guy, just get the Emeralds in Heroes with Team Rose. The levels are like, 2 minutes each, and Team Blast gives you invincibility. Super easy to get the end with the key. Once you're there you can get the Emeralds in seconds.
I remember using team rose for the chaos emeralds since their stages were so easy and finished Sonic Heroes. I never finished Sonic 06, I can't remember why.

I do actually like Sonic 06 despite it's lack of polish and the just bad romance. I think the level design is really fun when you know how to avoid breaking shit. I can't excuse the fact that it was rushed and created such a technically broken game, but I still have fun with it, and liked the overall plotline minus the romance. I don't think Sega should've course-corrected SO harshly that they dropped Adventure gameplay altogether, and I do like it when Sonic games have a bit more of a interesting story like SA2 and 06, Sonic and final bosses that are some kind of monster go together really well in my opinion.
This was the Era when I faded away from Sonic. I kind of liked Sonic Heroes, but I had so many better games to play so I never actually finished it. At least I had the Mega Collection to keep me going.

I kinda agree when you say that Heroes and Shadow are better second time round as when I first played those games while I enjoyed them, it was definitely way better once I got used to the controls and could play whichever stage in whichever order. Also, I really couldn't care less that all of the paths in Shadow are redundant as there was going to be a canon ending anyway.
I agree with a lot of this. To get the Sonic Heroes you might be able to use an Action Replay Card. Also for Shadow the Hedgehog to get the actual ending you have to play through the game 10 times.
It's not bad to stop or slow down in a sonic game, but when you do have to do something besides running it had better be fun! That's the real problem with the stops in Sonic games. They usually have you do repetitive easy things that aren't fun after awhile or amateur platforming/puzzle solving.
Some Sonic games have bad plots, some have bad graphics, some have cringy dialogue and writing, but you can never say that they aren’t entertaining. Like 99% of Sonic games are incredibly entertaining and fun to play.

Yeah, there was mania, but other than that, there isn't really anything. But that's just my opinion. Maybe you didn't like Colours, Generations and Lost World, and that's ok.

But it's just this feeling that they're no longer trying like they use to, and are settling with the bare minimum by pandering to detractors/critics that like to act as if Sonic is just a 2nd rate Mario. And Mania as good as it was, in the grand scheme it was really a megamix throwback game rather than the Next new entry. Yet it's being treated as if it's on par with something like Mario Odyssey or the original megadrive games rebooted for a new generation (when it spends way too much time trying to force itself as part of those games). Sorry, you've probably heard a lot of folks say what I've been saying recently.
I only played 2 out of those 3 and that was shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06. Shadow the hedgehog is the first sonic game I ever played so obviously I really like the shadow the hedgehog, I had a lot of fun playing with my friend Playing 2 players. For example there's this one map with lava and it rises as time goes on so you need to get to a hover board to stay above the lava, it was fun fighting my friend on that map so shadow the hedgehog will always be my favorite sonic game for all the enjoyment it gave me and shadow the hedgehog will always be my favorite character. Sadly SEGA doesn't know how to handle his character anymore.
I go by the generally agreed upon definition that the dark age is from 2005 to 2009. 2006 has a bad gba-release, but I think the only really bad year was 2009. Era overall was pretty good.

Of the three I prefer Heroes. Not only because it was my first 3D Sonic game after the main classics and I loved it as a kid but also because I think it's the best. You only need to play the game 4 times with the same mechanic (a little boring but not as people make it out to be) good level design and it has a simple plot. And you even have the special stages but they're not that good. It feels a lot like a modern classic game to me but using 3 different character at the same time. But yeah I hate some bugs in that game. I don't know why you don't like the Team mechanic, that's part of the fun. And I don't think Heroes belongs to Adventure era not dark age. Shadow the Hedgehog makes you play the game at least 10 times to get to the final story and it's very dark. I hate Shadow personality in this game and it's a little stupid for him to use guns. Some missions are enjoyable though. And Shadow the Hedgehog is the beginning of the dark age. Sonic 06 is a buggy mess with a plot focusing on time travel with many plotholes I totally hate. And Sonic's story is just rescuing Elise every time. Besides those flaws, and Elise's kiss I like the story in 06 and Sega's intention to make a really good 3D Sonic game. Sadly we know it ended up being one of the worst Sonic games ever.
Great Sonic retrospective so far, Pup. I actually like it. I got a good suggestion for your idea box. After the Sonic games retrospective, do you think you can do a Spider-Man video game retrospective like the Sonic retrospective? Though I won't say play with every single one for that retrospective with games like Spider-Man for the Atari 2600 or the NES and Genesis (Mega Drive) games. I think the best place to start is Spider-Man (2000) for the PS1, Dreamcast, N64, and PC and then make your way up to Spider-Man PS4. The type of games I'd like to see in the retrospective are from the 2000's all the way up to today. One more rule for said retrospective is no Marvel games where Spider-Man's the guest star like Marvel vs. Capcom 1,2,3, or Infinite, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1,2, and 3, or even the Lego Marvel games since the retrospective will be focused on games where Spider-Man's the title character. I'll probably just do the mainline ones. It's been on the cards for a while. There's probably a fair bit more to talk about with those than Sonic so it may take a little longer.
1st Let me say that this wasn't the Dark Age for the series. The worst Decade of Sonic's Career in terms of games started in 2010 & the only game that rises above the meh line the entire decade is Mania which was great. Also Channel Pup is wrong about Heroes being the 1st Experience for Sonic to those who never had access to the Sega Consoles. Nintendo had access to Sonic games for 2 years prior to Sonic Heroes with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle & Sonic Advance both being released in December 2001 for GameCube & GBA respectively. Sonic Mega Collection & Sonic Advance 2 released a year later, then in the earlier half of 2003 Sonic Adventure DX came out for GameCube. If you count Sonic Pinball Party that's 3 GBA games & 3 GameCube games for Sonic all before PS2 or Xbox even got a single game in the Sonic Series. As for the reason Heroes & Shadow have the graphical downgrade from the Adventure Games is because they had to port it to the inferior PlayStation 2. The PS2 was notable for being the weakest hardware of its console generation & going on to sell the best, a trait shared by the Wii among the 7th Gen Consoles. I'm glad you enjoyed Sonic 06 it's definitely overhated & doesn't get nearly enough praise for the stuff it gets right. The Decisions made in response to the backlash of 06 were worse for the Sonic Series than Sonic 06 ever was. The "Just Sonic" mentality was always a mistake, & the same holds true for the cartoony direction the series would go in for the 2010s Decade. The only things 3D Boost did was make Sonic go too fast for the series own good (this is why the games are shorter these days) & further split the fanbase.
With the first point, pretty sure he meant as in the first NEW Sonic game for Nintendo fans, as well as for the consoles. The Advance games plus pinball party are all Handheld, and all the console games are ports of previous games.

I agree if they had stuck with it 06 probably would’ve been ten times better game with all the playable characters as teams or solo and adding some of the interesting characters like Silver and Blaze to the roster with their own future team.
Sonic Heroes is also one of my least favorite Sonic games, for the same reasons you explained. After playing the pinball level, I just gave up because it was rage inducing. But with Sonic 06, I have always felt that it has gotten way more hate than it really deserves. There's plenty of good qualities that many people overlook
The only game here I didn't like was Shadow The Hedgehog. The gun gameplay is very cool, but sometimes, the missions makes me want to hit my head on a wall. In Westopolis, I always seem to miss one soldier or alien, and then I have to go back to make sure I can find them. I beat the game and the reached the true ending, but never again did I return to play it. Surprisingly though, I never had problem with Lost Impact, but that's probably because I watch the game a lot on youtube few years ago.
I grew up playing and enjoying Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog, both for the GameCube. Those games weren’t terrible in my opinion, though I don’t think they were at all perfect. I don’t like Sonic ‘06 in any way, shape, or form though. That game was trash.
TBH The Dark age of Sonic is the worst era for Sonic. For Me it started with Sonic X and Sonic Heroes and ended with Sonic Unleashed, while the Japanese dub of Sonic X is slightly better (the anime is still mediocre) the 4kids dub was the worst version of the anime (the 4kids actor where better in the game Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity was where they peeked), the plots of the Adventure games got ruined also Chris Throndyke is the worst character ever made, then there's Sonic Heroes after the Dreamcast well We know the story Sega changed the gameplay from the Adventure style to team based and the levels are so long and playing the same levels over and over again and that playing Team Dark, Team Rose and Team Chaotix is just padden. it's pretty stupid being that Sega has ported Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure 1, the Genesis/Mega Drive Games, Game Gear games and Mics over to the Gamecube via Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Mega Collection in 2002, Sonic Adventure DX and some Gamegear in the Mini Game menu games in 2003 and Sonic Gems Collection in 2005 but Sonic 06 is what signified the Dark age once that game came out Sonic garner alot of hate and saying that "Sonic Sucks, Sonic is Dead, Sonic needs to go back to 2D inorder to survive" Sonic 06 was so bad that I almost gave up on Sonic if it was not for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 06 was hyped up so hard that poor marketing and the fact that Yuji Naka left and that the team split to make Sonic and the Secret Rings is what hurt Sonic the Hedgehog. but games like Sonic Riders, Sonic Rivals 1, Sonic Rivals 2 and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity where mediocre and Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Chronicles the Dark Bortherhood where bad, the only good games from 2003 though 2008 where Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Advance 3, Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure. Sonic Unleashed was the saving grace for the main series but things like the Sun and Moon Medal collecting just padded the game out, the Werehog is fine but can get boring alittle while and entered Sonic in somewhat of a renaissance (while We got games like Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic 4 and Sonic Free Riders I felt Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction and thought Sonic Colors was great and Sonic Generations was awesome). TBH I think Sega should have learned from the Dark Age and move on from it
Can I just say that I love Sonic 06? I bought it and don’t regret it. The game is good for what it is. People should respect 06! It’s easily in my top ten favorite Sonic games. It wasn’t Sonic team’s fault for this.
People say the dark ages of sonic were in the 2000s I think the dark ages started when sonic boom released. Cause the stories for sonic that time were really good and in 2010 the stories made no sense.
Sonic heroes is overated and overstates it's welcome. Shadow is enjoyable but as an idea dumb Sonic 06 is the most enjoyable and interesting and would have made for a great game if done right

Shadow had no memories of who he was, we see this in the opening but it is the Chaos Emeralds that help restore his mind.

I only played 2 out of those 3 and that was shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06.
Shadow the hedgehog is the first sonic game I ever played so obviously I really like the shadow the hedgehog, I had a lot of fun playing with my friend Playing 2 players.
For example there's this one map with lava and it rises as time goes on so you need to get to a hover board to stay above the lava, it was fun fighting my friend on that map so shadow the hedgehog will always be my favorite sonic game for all the enjoyment it gave me and shadow the hedgehog will always be my favorite character.
Sadly SEGA doesn't know how to handle his character anymore.
I feel like a remake for heroes after sonic 2 could be a good idea
I go by the generally agreed upon definition that the dark age is from 2005 to 2009. 2006 has a bad gba-release, but I think the only really bad year was 2009. Era overall was pretty good.

Heroes is not considered a Dark Age game. Replace it with Secret Rings and then you got the dark age.

Of the three I prefer Heroes. Not only because it was my first 3D Sonic game after the main classics and I loved it as a kid but also because I think it's the best. You only need to play the game 4 times with the same mechanic (a little boring but not as people make it out to be) good level design and it has a simple plot. And you even have the special stages but they're not that good. It feels a lot like a modern classic game to me but using 3 different character at the same time. But yeah I hate some bugs in that game. I don't know why you don't like the Team mechanic, that's part of the fun. And I don't think Heroes belongs to Adventure era not dark age. Shadow the Hedgehog makes you play the game at least 10 times to get to the final story and it's very dark. I hate Shadow personality in this game and it's a little stupid for him to use guns. Some missions are enjoyable though. And Shadow the Hedgehog is the beginning of the dark age. Sonic 06 is a buggy mess with a plot focusing on time travel with many plotholes I totally hate. And Sonic's story is just rescuing Elise every time. Besides those flaws, and Elise's kiss I like the story in 06 and Sega's intention to make a really good 3D Sonic game. Sadly we know it ended up being one of the worst Sonic games ever.

Great Sonic retrospective so far, Pup. I actually like it. I got a good suggestion for your idea box. After the Sonic games retrospective, do you think you can do a Spider-Man video game retrospective like the Sonic retrospective? Though I won't say play with every single one for that retrospective with games like Spider-Man for the Atari 2600 or the NES and Genesis (Mega Drive) games. I think the best place to start is Spider-Man (2000) for the PS1, Dreamcast, N64, and PC and then make your way up to Spider-Man PS4. The type of games I'd like to see in the retrospective are from the 2000's all the way up to today. One more rule for said retrospective is no Marvel games where Spider-Man's the guest star like Marvel vs. Capcom 1,2,3, or Infinite, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1,2, and 3, or even the Lego Marvel games since the retrospective will be focused on games where Spider-Man's the title character. Have a great one, Pup. 'Cause you and I both know you've earned it.
I'll probably just do the mainline ones. It's been on the cards for a while. There's probably a fair bit more to talk about with those than Sonic so it may take a little longer.

1st Let me say that this wasn't the Dark Age for the series. The worst Decade of Sonic's Career in terms of games started in 2010 & the only game that rises above the meh line the entire decade is Mania which was great. Also Channel Pup is wrong about Heroes being the 1st Experience for Sonic to those who never had access to the Sega Consoles.
Nintendo had access to Sonic games for 2 years prior to Sonic Heroes with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle & Sonic Advance both being released in December 2001 for GameCube & GBA respectively. Sonic Mega Collection & Sonic Advance 2 released a year later, then in the earlier half of 2003 Sonic Adventure DX came out for GameCube. If you count Sonic Pinball Party that's 3 GBA games & 3 GameCube games for Sonic all before PS2 or Xbox even got a single game in the Sonic Series.
As for the reason Heroes & Shadow have the graphical downgrade from the Adventure Games is because they had to port it to the inferior PlayStation 2. The PS2 was notable for being the weakest hardware of its console generation & going on to sell the best, a trait shared by the Wii among the 7th Gen Consoles. I'm glad you enjoyed Sonic 06 it's definitely overhated & doesn't get nearly enough praise for the stuff it gets right. The Decisions made in response to the backlash of 06 were worse for the Sonic Series than Sonic 06 ever was. The "Just Sonic" mentality was always a mistake, & the same holds true for the cartoony direction the series would go in for the 2010s Decade. The only things 3D Boost did was make Sonic go too fast for the series own good (this is why the games are shorter these days) & further split the fanbase.
With the first point, pretty sure he meant as in the first NEW Sonic game for Nintendo fans, as well as for the consoles. The Advance games plus pinball party are all Handheld, and all the console games are ports of previous games.

Sonic Heroes is also one of my least favorite Sonic games, for the same reasons you explained. After playing the pinball level, I just gave up because it was rage inducing. But with Sonic 06, I have always felt that it has gotten way more hate than it really deserves. There's plenty of good qualities that many people overlook

The only game here I didn't like was Shadow The Hedgehog. The gun gameplay is very cool, but sometimes, the missions makes me want to hit my head on a wall. In Westopolis, I always seem to miss one soldier or alien, and then I have to go back to make sure I can find them. I beat the game and the reached the true ending, but never again did I return to play it.
Surprisingly though, I never had problem with Lost Impact, but that's probably because I watch the game a lot on youtube few years ago.
I recommend you to download 100% save file and play Expert Mode. It's what the game should have been in the first place.
If all the bad sonic games where better, then people would stop hating on sonic.
I grew up playing and enjoying Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog, both for the GameCube. Those games weren’t terrible in my opinion, though I don’t think they were at all perfect. I don’t like Sonic ‘06 in any way, shape, or form though. That game was trash.

TBH The Dark age of Sonic is the worst era for Sonic. For Me it started with Sonic X and Sonic Heroes and ended with Sonic Unleashed, while the Japanese dub of Sonic X is slightly better (the anime is still mediocre) the 4kids dub was the worst version of the anime (the 4kids actor where better in the game Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity was where they peeked), the plots of the Adventure games got ruined also Chris Throndyke is the worst character ever made, then there's Sonic Heroes after the Dreamcast well We know the story Sega changed the gameplay from the Adventure style to team based and the levels are so long and playing the same levels over and over again and that playing Team Dark, Team Rose and Team Chaotix is just padden. it's pretty stupid being that Sega has ported Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure 1, the Genesis/Mega Drive Games, Game Gear games and Mics over to the Gamecube via Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Mega Collection in 2002, Sonic Adventure DX and some Gamegear in the Mini Game menu games in 2003 and Sonic Gems Collection in 2005
but Sonic 06 is what signified the Dark age once that game came out Sonic garner alot of hate and saying that "Sonic Sucks, Sonic is Dead, Sonic needs to go back to 2D inorder to survive" Sonic 06 was so bad that I almost gave up on Sonic if it was not for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 06 was hyped up so hard that poor marketing and the fact that Yuji Naka left and that the team split to make Sonic and the Secret Rings is what hurt Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic Unleashed was the saving grace for the main series but things like the Sun and Moon Medal collecting just padded the game out, the Werehog is fine but can get boring alittle while and entered Sonic in somewhat of a renaissance (while We got games like Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic 4 and Sonic Free Riders I felt Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction and thought Sonic Colors was great and Sonic Generations was awesome). TBH I think Sega should have learned from the Dark Age and move on from it
