- As episode #100 of "What Makes This Song Great" approaches, #99 (The Cars) was just taken down off the platform and I've been issued my FIRST copyright strike. I'm pissed.

Imagine wanting to take down a video about how great your song is.
Seriously. He CELEBRATES songs and promotes them to 2.1 M people!
EXACTLY
Rick should only make videos on music of openminded artists
That CARS episode was very good. What a shame.
Rick Beato, You might want to give UA-cam corporate a call and set them straight!
Having your song featured on "What makes this song great" series should be considered an honor. They should be thanking you for keeping their songs alive. Sad.
Spot on
Enjoyed their music, but always thought they were up themselves
it's probably worth it for the band to let it go as many of us who hear a new song go out and buy it
He said Tool promoted the vids featuring their songs. That's cool.
@@williamcozart8158 yea because maynard is smart and not greedy
Imagine a band so dumb they don't want you to talk about how great their song is.
It's all the lawyers.
I agree, it’s the agents, lawyers and others who all want their 10% even if it’s 10% of 1 penny, they want it even though most of them don’t need it.
no imagination needed as he gave multiple examples makes you wonder or maybe not and just post some stupid reply about lawyers the artists dont give a fuck buddy
its not the band usually.... usually a record company
Some weirdo sponge bob cranky pants!!
Tool is smart enough to promote someone talking about how great their song is.
Rick, I'm 68 years old and I was a musician back in my youth. And I have learned so much watching your videos, and this just pisses me off to no end! Hang in there, my friend! You do a great service to all of us, young and old alike.
Quite right Faith, well said. I'm 73 and still playing. Love this channel for the things you don't see or hear anywhere else.
The whole thing is just so ass backwards. Who in their right mind would have a problem with you sharing their music with your audience for the sole purpose of telling them how great it is? Makes no sense.
Absolutely. As a musician I would jump like mad at the chance to have someone like Rick praising my music. Its promotion and street cred that would take me months, years to build up. Absolutely insane to reject it in such a way.
The musicians are usually not involved in the copyright complaints but rather the big record companies.
Hey Bill, love your work - do you go through this, too?
@@spyralarchytect yeah. I’ve had 3 copyright strikes but luckily they were spaced out enough that I didn’t lose my account.

Nothing to do with creating harmony
These artist are getting paid for other people's work. but they still complain.
someone needs to create a list of artists that lead to copyright strikes so creators know to avoid them
Basically anyone associated with Warnermedia or Disney
So 85% of film music
Agreed.
And thus have them disappear into the ether. How perfect is that? What was that dude's name? Don Hen, Hainley something. The Eggles?
An artist is Secret Rivals.
I see your Cars Episode 99 is back, great work! The Cars are awesome and so is your video. Honestly, it’s just want I needed ;)
The system is broken. The music industry is taking advantage of people who are helping them, little do they know. Rick Beato is introducing people to music they would have never heard of. I'm a Hip Hop guy and I appreciate his musical knowledge and appreciation for so many music genres. This channel is one of the best on UA-cam!
There has to be something we as fans and students can do!
No Cap!
I'm an R&B guy ..well Jazz Funk originally and been following Rick for 3 years..love his content and learn so much about bands I never normally listen to..wonderful..TBH that Cars song ..lets just say I'm surprised its them.
@Luke To a point you are right but do they even watch him content. He use this series to teach and introduce people to their music, imagine if after seeing rick's video i decide to get a Toto album, that's money in the bank. Tell me if its not greed.
no bands/publishers lawyers broke the system
And I am a 59 y.o. olde school classic rock dude who has learned to appreciate some hip hop and even pop stuff. I couldn't agree more with this.
Never apologize for ranting about this, Rick.
Here here!!
And I will buy one more coffee mug of his site for every copyright strike if he will just keep making these amazing videos. They inspired me to learn about music theory for the first time in my life at age 46 and inspired me to learn to play an instrument for the very first time.
Amen!
BTW, what song was it?
@@elaineosuch838 Just What I Needed.
My favorite Cars song.
Although that's a two year old video, but I had really say you kudos for what you do. I mean I'm in my twenties and there's are so many old, classic songs I listened to because of you. I mean in this generation of money and fame, we have to respect a man like you who is fighting for promoting an art. That's really commendable job, my all love and respect to you sir!
I got a Copyright strike on Instagram for a video i did in 2017 where I was waiting for my cousin to shop and drive her back home. I was just showing off my new car to friends and family! I had The Eagles playing on the radio and it was about 30 secs or less. I get this notice and yeah I claimed fair use act because it was just something playing on the radio at the time. I assumed it was from the band because who else? It never told me who only the long list of countries including the US where it was blocked. There should be a limit to this and bands need to step up and help their fans who are harassed like this. Keep up the good work I love and watch you as I love the music too and my favorite band of all time Led-Zeppelin is something i want to see always put in the best light possible so other can love them as much as I can. I'm glad Robert Plant has his own channel and that others get to know about them as time goes on and people who don't listen to them will never know they were around and would have other wise loved them had they did.
The irony here is Beato is going out of his way to maintain or revive the relevancy of these artists as they strike his channel. They should be sending him letters thanking him.
The "labels" are why Rock is dying. The "labels" are out to grab as much as they can, while they can. They are burning bridges like a fucking pyromaniac. When interest in ACTUAL music is gone, They won't care. They will just pump out "ringtone" level crap made by using an Excel spreadsheet not instruments.🤢

Your opinion over what someone should do with something they own means nothing.

@@sludge4125 I agree the owner gets to decide. I have often posted that it is a marketing decision they get to make. I just feel that it is a mistake to block. And there is a clear case of fair use here. He's not just posting their song but transforming with commentary and teaching.
It's funny to think somebody was like "How dare you tell people that my song was great!"

I can’t read music or play any instruments yet when I stumbled across your channel I immediately subscribed. You’ve given me an entirely new respect for music and your passion for it is undeniable. I hope you continue to find the patience and perseverance to share great heritage music.
Rick, Don't let the haters get you down. I think the majority of groups and musicians appreciate the honor of having their music recognized by you. I want to see and hear more.
”We need to keep this music top secret, that’s how we think we can become really rich...”
Time to start a new thread. "What Makes This Song Suck": their publishers.
Well learning from the h3h3 lawsuit he would have a much easier time if he just spent the whole video slamming the songs! But that's not what Rick is about.
Someone should make a list of the publisher/artists doing this then we downvote them and give bad reviews.
What makes this platform suck!
I'm new to your channel and just signed in, but I've seen enough videos to tell you're certainly a generous person for sharing all this knowledge with such an enthusiasm. In regard, this copyright strike sounds even more ridiculous and unfair. And sad. You've got all my support
I quit doing my travel guide series (printed) because artists have become so difficult to deal with. If I take a photograph of a public park, and if that photograph includes a work of art in the image, then I have to get permission from the artist, the artist's estate-or most usually-a rights management business, and usually pay them. (Including artists who are long dead and gone.) Mind you, these are photographs where the work of art is not the "focus", but rather one that may be seen in the distance, incidentally, say through an opening in distant trees. And in most cases, these are works of art a publicly supported entity paid for, such as a park or city department, through common tax payer's funds. The whole thing has gone completely out of control. In many cases, I decided to Photoshop the work of art out of the photograph, because, evidently, art "shouldn't be visible." Wow. I'm an architect myself, and often wonder when architects will start demanding fees for any photographs, say of a city skyline, that includes one their buildings. We haven't done that yet, because architects aren't as greedy as artists. (PS. One very famous artist with a very famous work in a Chicago park demanded that a police officer be present to prevent people from taking pictures of his work of art.)
This is crazy. I may understand if the art is THE focus of the picture. But if it's far in the background... Now I understand why TV shows have a blur on most painting on walls. This whole idea of control freak is absolutely stupid. Any art, whatever the type, needs to be seen or heard. If not, no one knows about it, no one buys from that artist and that artist ends up flipping burgers at McDonald's. There is a difference between taking an unfair advantage of, and to promote someone else in total or part. This will blow up in their face sooner or later...
BS ALERT.
There’s something very wrong when a man like Rick is punished for trying to share his considerable wealth of knowledge.
Keep it coming Sir.
No matter the situation, human greed will find a way to F it up!
Classic music was only great because back then there was no alternative. Only what you heard on the radio. Same for alot of classic TV shows and movies. In reality, someone on UA-cam now can generate their own content that is superior to a top show in the 1980's. Those bands don't want the fame now, like you said, just let them disappear.
You don't say. (Not trying to mock, just sharing the realization).
Just imagine the thought process behind this:
"Hey this guy with over 2M subs on a service of mostly people 18-35 just made a video called "What makes this song great" about one of our tracks, what should we do?"
"Better take it down and strike his channel. It's not like it could expand our audience, make us money, and at the very least is flattering or anything. Yeah, I don't see any positives coming from this."
I mean, how out of touch can you possibly be. It's just absurd.
Completely absurd
To be fair, it's probably not the band members that asked for a copyright strike. It's most likely whoever owns the publishing rights (a suit, or some family member who only cares about money)
Can't put brains in statues.
@@marcstolk6682 that's a great quote. Thanks.
@@Fabh83 Even if it's a family member, they should have realized it's essentially free promotion of their product. Would you strike an ad that says your product is great and asks people to go check it out? I mean how stupid can you be?

I can’t even read music but I know how to listen to the great music now!
Thank you so much!!!
“What Makes This Song Great” Is a win-win-win-win endeavour.
UA-cam wins by getting views and building an audience for advertising
The artist wins by getting publicity and potentially receiving income
Rick wins by fulfilling his passion and making a living
And viewers like me win by receiving education and entertainment.
I do hope this stupid copyright strike is quickly withdrawn.
Count on YT to turn a “win-win” situation into a “win-lose” one, outside of any sane reasoning. 😖
We bought Yes, after watching this. Never heard of them before his vid and they are great.
More like a win-win-lose if youtube is sending copyright claims
I wonder if there is a way to see if the artist he talks about gets a bump in downloads. Hmmm
Love Rick’s insight and trust his logic.
I think it’s time to start focusing on artist from the last 10-15 years that have been hurt by the demonetization of music because of streaming services. There is a lot of great music and artist that would love and appreciate Rick B’s praise and promotion based on their artistry.
I had no idea The Cars were getting advice from Don Henley.
Dang it, you beat me to it. The Eagles have the most litigious reputation. The tried to sue a restaurant in Baja, California, which is technically Mexico. Accused the restaurant, called the Hotel California, of appropriating the name and using the song to attract customers. Problem, they only used the normal music service any restaurant pays for, which has already paid copyrights. And the other bigger problem? The restaurant Hotel California opened for business with that name in 1950, nearly two decades before the band existed and more than 20 years before the song was recorded. The restaurant kind of won.
Copyright infringement is where you make money from someone else's song, especially recorded song, without paying ASCAP or BMI fees. Most of these channels here are not trying to make money and like this channel, don't mind be demonetized just to use the song as a lesson. But this platform makes sometimes think they do not understand copyright.
Any, doesn't matter, the CEO giveth and the CEO taketh away.I hate being the black pill. But they will find a way to get rid of Rick without any sort of legality.

How true! It's the groups youngsters love that get them started on an instrument. I'm glad my guitar teachers could show me what the guys are doing without going to jail! Like the band Tool did. Exactly my thought too.
One would think right lol nothing but ungrateful curs.
@Luke You are acutely uninformed. Please do some research.
@Luke I became a Tool fan and a Slipknot band and bought their music only AFTER watching Rick's videos. I replaced my old cassette of the 1978 Cars album with a brand new CD I purchased only because i got excited about them again after Rick's 99th episode. I have spent some money on the bands because of him. I know SOME of the 2.1 million subscribers have too.
@Luke I can confirm that i discovered a lot music because of his videos.
What makes this Copyright Strike bullshit: Episode 1-The Cars
Yes!!! This!!!
*video gets copyright strike*
Dude, Please don't give up !! I have been a self-taught drummer since age 7, and I learn SO MUCH from you. I can't relate to the new bands. I grew up on Grand Funk, Humble Pie, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple, JoJo Gunne, Focus, Pure Prairie League, and so many more. I used to stay up late to catch Midnight Special and Rock Concert !! You have taught me so much about odd time signatures, too. I don't want to belabor the point, but there are a LOT of people like me who so appreciate what you do. Keep going, man. Don't let them win !
Rick, I grew up in the 80’s and love all the music from that generation along with the 70’s and 90’s. I tried playing guitar once and my mind does not work in that way to read music etc. my wife plays a number of instruments and I am always showing her your videos. Thanks for what you do even though I am not successful in playing myself, I feel even more connected with music by watching and listening to how you breakdown each song
Hey dear friend, I know you probably won't see this. But as a fellow UA-camr who goes through this constantly (and wins), I would like to pose an opposing view: given your stature in the industry, could it be time to start disputing these claims?
Before you dismiss this outright, consider that given your huge fanbase, you could be the one who makes a difference here.
I know it sounds like a major hassle, but it's really not that difficult and I would be happy to share the language my lawyer drafted up so you can use it.
Now I know that the reason you don't file disputes is because you want the artist to get paid which is quite noble.
But the reason that I'm suggesting an alternative course here is that the record companies are quite terrified of this actually going to court.
Not only do you have a completely valid claim for fair use, but if they decide to take you to court and you demonstrate fair use, they are open to HUGE liabilities in anti-SLAPP lawsuits (strategic lawsuits against public participation--basically lawsuits that are designed to prevent the powerful from intimidating you into censoring yourself).
Honestly, if they were foolish enough to issue a takedown and file a claim against you, they could potentially get hurt so badly they would never do so again.
You are a giant in this field Rick, consider that you might have the power in this case to make things better for others out there.
Warm regards,
Matt Ramsey
Copyright is so bullshit
this
I agree with Matt ^^^
I think this is a great suggestion!!!
Perfect response and I hope Rick contacts and listens as his channel is important as it demonstrates real passion and love for all music .
This might be of help - I've gotten a copyright strike once and when you go to dispute section there should be an email contact of someone who is in charge of that particular copyright. I wrote them an e-mail and explained myself, I was doing something similar to you, talking about a certain live performance and teaching people about singing a song like that through that example. I apologized for not asking for permission, asked nicely if they would be kind enough to remove the strike, told them that I am willing to delete the video, or if they agree, they can leave the video up but demonetized it. In a few days I got the response - apology accepted and that I should send the ID of the video that got the strike. Miraculously, they removed the strike, allowed the video to get published and even agreed to - shared revenue. So that dispute function can really be helpful, I actually use it often for blocked videos. Sometimes they respond and say that it is still blocked but I never got a strike after they disagreed with me - so that's a good thing. In most cases, nobody response, and after 30 days the video is fully up and all the revenue goes to me because they failed to respond withing the time period they have to response (which is 30 days). After that I think they can't demonetize it, block it, or anything later. Hope this is helpful, I know how much that sucks...
This gave me hope for humanity.

This knowledge is invaluable for fair use content creators. Thank you sir!

@@MegaMech Yes. And this is a dick move for the people who did this to Rick. Cars management are dicks.
You don't have to apologize to us. You're great! I been playing music for over 30 years, and I'm still learning. I've learned a great deal from your videos alone. These artists need to realize if they're big, it's because the fans made them big. Without us they are nothing!!! I'm flattered and honored when people use my music whether to perform, or to learn. The things I've learned are from my favorite musicians. You make music to share. It's the universal language. Like you said, it's not like they don't get paid. These artists are absolutely for entertainment and learning purposes. Those greedy bastards need to remember where they came from and what made them big. Thank you for all you do Rick!!! I look forward to your next video!! Keep on rocking my friend!!
I'll never understand why a band or an artist wouldn't want their music on this channel. It's all about what made their song great. Rick Beato gives a huge nod of respect towards their innovation and their brilliance, and he only praises their musicianship. It seems to me that the artists he has featured would consider this to be a great honor. I suppose some of them might have a valid reason to have a video taken down, but I just don't get why one would to try to hurt him in the process.
The really hilarious part: those artists learned by playing other artists music.

Hopefully this video gains enough traction that someone comes to their senses and they remove the strike. That's all he's asking for.
@Luke carry no weight? Alot of the bands he mentioned here my generation hasn't ever heard of. It's free publicity, sucks that ancient record companies don't overall understand the use of the internet and how it's free advertising. The music industry is broken and copyright is horrifyingly exploitable. Not to mention sometimes strikes are used by companies who aren't even the record companied.
@Luke Fair use explicitly allows use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
I bought most of the Steely Dan records when they came out on vinyl. Rick did a "what makes this song great" on Kid Charlemagne. He talked about parts of the song that I've heard, but he made me hear it in a different way. So what did I do? I ordered the entire remastered CD collection of Steely Dan. Rick deserves a commission, not a strike
Rick sir, I find your channel and the work you do extremely entertaining. Your knowledge of, admiration shown, and respect you give artists of the music you highlight is impeccable. Your professionalism alone in these videos should flatter any artist. But the enthusiasm you excude alone in my humble opinion, should have artists lining up for guest appearances, flattered that you think so highly of their works. I constantly have the kids (both All-State Choir singers) watching your work as motivation for their expanding talents and pursuits in The Arts.
I can imagine your discouragement at times and appreciate these videos as well. I just hope you can keep up the good work, shake off the nonsense, and find a way to navigate these sometimes... Redonkulous... laws and regulations to continue your delivery of this most excellent content.

Been watching "What Makes this Song Great" for a few years. This morning I listened to Episode 99 and was reminded how much I loved The Cars back in high school. However, I didn't have them on my Spotify playlist. I do now! Had I not seen your video, I would still not have them on my list. Hey Cars.....you should be thanking Rick!
"but The Cars.....come on! THE CARS?!"😂
A uniquely modern tragedy: music disappearing down the memory hole....destroyed by the artist who created it for a few dollars.
*not the artist. their publishing house. the suits.
A few years ago I was watching an episode of the game show Jeopardy. The question (answer) was about Buddy Holly. Not a single contestant could answer it or even buzzed in to answer it. Apparently they did not know who Buddy Holly was. In not too many years we may seeing the same blank response to The Cars and even, say - Bob Dylan.
2 main guys from Cars are dead, this is done by record label burocrats
@@valdobrov So there's no problem in giving thumbs down to the songs because the artists don't benefit from them anymore
I can't express enough how much I appreciate your what makes a song great series. It's truly too bad that UA-cam has created a system which incentivizes cowardly legal terrorism.
I only recently discovered you Rick, and I'm sad to see the greed music industry publishers show. That's exactly what it is. Of course it serves as a disincentive to continue with your posts. That would be a shame. I admire your ears, your honesty and devotion to popular music. Please don't quit. I've been a professional musician almost by entire life but because of you I know I can continue learning
These bands are just ensuring that they fade away into obscurity rather than find new audiences
Exactly!
They’re literally dead
If I never heard another cars song again I’d die happy.
It's not necessarily the band, but the copyright owner. These are people whose income is based on sales of music they own, and greedily want ANY use to pay them money. I'd suspect some aren't even musicians, but legal experts who will use the laws for their own benefit.
If Rick hadn´t made that video, I wouldn´t know who the Cars were
This is ridiculous but please don’t stop “What Makes This Song Great” I absolutely love that series.
I love them too but if its going to risk him losing the channel then he doesnt have much of a choice
Rick Ocasek and Benjamin Orr are both dead- the guys who wrote all those songs. The people whining about this didn’t even have anything to do with creating the art!
Same here! Don't stop doing that!! Not to mention your a outstanding musician!!!
Keep at it Rick, and don't let it get you down too much. Not only is what you are doing important, you're damn good at it too!
Rick - I love your videos, especially “What makes this song great”. As a “wantabe” guitarist and true lover of music; I want you to know I learn a lot from you’re videos and really enjoy them.

“What make this song great” complements the song and everyone who helped create songs! I’m so sorry you are going through this.
This man has roots. He's a font of knowledge for beginner, intermediate and, advanced musicians.
I spent about 10 seconds trying to understand how Rick is creating Fonts 😂
Not only for musicians but for aspiring recording engineers as well. He covers mic placement, effects, and all sorts of techniques. His experience is vast, and he shares it freely on UA-cam, but the Draconian "Masters Of The Universe" don't give a rat's balloon-knot about benefit to us users. If Rick were to be deplatformed, and all his videos discarded like yesterday's garbage, the loss would be tragic.

At first i was like wtf this dude is talking about hahaha
you're 100% right! He's a college professor for crying out loud! Giving of his time and money to make us all better. Online petition time. Where do I sign?
I know i'm rather late on this video but it seems to still be the same issues nowadays (probably even worse !) with this platform !
I'm a great fan of youtubers videos on matters that interest me but i'll never set a foot in here trying to make cool and creative content with educational or just interesting subjects because the way youtube rules work is more and more complicated and obscure.
You (and other youtubers) are very brave to go on doing this !
Thank you, stay strong and commited, and good luck for the future :)
Great channel. The musical content isn't what makes it great, it's your knowledge and experience ABOUT that music. You deserve the full value of the monetization.
I've come to accept that Social Media is the most Anti-Social thing in the whole wide world.
@@j_freed yes getting copyright striked by giant private corporations is peak socialism
Useless tidbit for you: I can’t accept the fact that a reality star is real.
All about how you use it 👍
Rick, it's not a rant, this is serious. You've done such a fantastic job of unveiling the secrets of music to enthusiasts so passionately and professionally! This copyright strike idiocy has to stop. If there's a way a couple million of your subscribers can help, let us know. 🤘
I believe what you do is fantastic. I am entranced by your breakdown of songs. Being a musician myself you let me hear things I never knew was there in the recording and I have a very good ear. All I’ll say is let Rick do what he does. I’m sure millions of you musicians agree with me and if your bands don’t want your songs promoted then tell him. Copyright Strike 3 and your out sounds like petty Facebook rules.
You're a great guy, don't let them assholes bring you down
If Rick wants to use one of my tracks for a “What Makes this Song Mediocre” episode, I can promise it won’t get blocked. ;)
😂
Perfect place for a song by The Cars.
This would be awesome! Encourage musicians to offer up a track which Rick would then review and show how to improve! Call it "What would make this song great"!!
He can have my songs for “What makes this song so bad!” series.
What Makes This Song "Meh"

He's right though...
We absolutely love your videos. Keep doing what you’re doing - G
People must not understand what the music world and how much other people are learning from you! Keep up the great work because I deeply appreciate what you’re doing.
I can feel the pain, I've been through this before! Pro tip: Stay away from Supertramp...
The Cars and super tramp share something in the way they sound ...
Rick should invite information from other UA-camrs so he can do a video on every band who have ever issued copyright strikes in this sort of inappropriate manner and leave them to gather dust away from all possible new audiences.
@@myksyk We need a large group of people, as it's done on reddit, to give these artists thumbs down and bad reviews and thumbs down
Wow, wasn’t expecting to see you here Sina. Your channel is fantastic - as is Rick’s. The music industry’s business model is broken.
@@myksyk Its extremely rare the actual band issues a takedown notice/strike/whatever, its the record label and owners who do that. Chances are the actual bands are getting pennies too.
New series “What Makes This Copyright © Strike Fucking Terrible?”
Hi! Rick, I can understand why the Artist don't want you to do a review of their songs. I just found your site a few weeks ago. You do a great job and I appreciate your work. ❤❤❤
You know a great song Rick and we all appreciate you pushing forward. These songs aren’t going anywhere and maybe the new great songwriters will learn how to get their name out there in this new age of technology.
The worst part of this whole situation for me is his “why bother” attitude, especially towards the end. It sucks to see a man sharing his expertise and passion for music, get crapped on. I for one have enjoyed these videos. So thank you sir.
Especially while promoting those artists
I just joined the Beato Club to support your work since this strike is unjust. Having said that......YOU SHOULD APPEAL THE CLAIM. Your videos ARE fair use and there's case law to support it. If you file a counter claim they will drop your strike and the video will be restored. Or they will have to take you to court, which they won't do because they will lose and it isn't worth their time.
if you dispute strike and they don't listen, they throw in a bonus strike which is why many don't dispute.
Makes sense.
Odds are against creators when it comes to copyright stuff
@@bunnyplush wow
yeah you basically have to kiss You Tubes butt and beg them to leave you alone.
Bless you Rick. I often look up the artists and their music and i'm sure they are getting royalties for that. You are driving business their way. Talk about cutting off their nose to spite their face.
It is a TRULY EXtraordinary situation!! Maddening!! You'd be MOSt surprised OR NOT, about the Rules on Jingles>>>OR the Tight Rules on Ice-cream Van Jingles!! IF I were in a Band, I'd be really happy to see/hear the way you introduce and promote the wonders of Music! Loved the Kate Bush analysis!! As a gifted Musician yourself this MUST be so frustrating!!! ;-O Hope you ind some resolution!!
Rick, how about making a series of “What can make this song great” with songs of bands that aren’t mainstream/famous ?
I would love that!
Maybe check first if those bands are signed up with some label. If they are, the label manager may be as short sighted as these who file this claim.
Better to ask them first if they will accept free publicity and thus kill all what makes this channel great, to give an honest opinion of what those bands made great in the first place. Apparently that's what (some) copyright owners want.
This is fantastic
Seriously great idea
Yes, the first band should be Ben folds five
Warning, UA-cam: if you take down Rick's channel, we riot
For sure. It'll be something that will make the Capitol look like kindergarten.
I'm from Belfast, we're good at rioting!
Storm youtube headquarters.
@@williamcozart8158 It's not really Google or UA-cam that is behind this. The law forces UA-cam to enable the dragons claims. If anything, storm the record labels - They are the greedy monsters. The American record industry even managed to force the Swedish government to change our laws to facilitate their greed.
@@MattiasSchonning Too late I already stormed YT headquarters, there was no one there.
Thank you for bringing this up, don’t let it discourage you. I think you should do ep100
I bought the Cars album when it first came out and still have it. I was very impressed learning about the fine details of "Just What I needed" and was thankful that Rick Beato demonstrated taught it to us. Rick should not be chastised for teaching us. His channel is like a music school to me.
This is so ridiculous! Thanks Rick for sharing this with us. Keep it up!!
Time for you to be invited on a Beato interview !!!! Abraços Kiko !!!!!!!!
Rick! Please join forces with FairTube which started with JoergSprave's channel to demand your rights and make youtube a decent place to make videos!
seria massa ver o rick esmiuçando alguma coisa do angra por exemplo! love from home, kikão!
@kikoloureiro Yeah, I'm with the almighty Kiko. That is so Juvenile. You're great rick, and you are so sensitive to the original artists and copyright stuff. Crazy.
Caraio, Kikão no video do Rick.
The thing is, everything Rick does *IS* Fair Use. Every single demonitization, block and copyright strike against this type of content is illegal. Rick passes ALL of the Fair Use standards and is even HELPING THESE STUPID BANDS AND COPYRIGHT OWNERS MAKE MORE MONEY.
START FIGHTING OR LOSE EVERYTHING.
It's not an easy fight to win. The system is designed so it's much easier to just give up even if you are legally in the right under Fair Use. Unfortunately this is true for many legal issues, those with the deepest pockets win, regardless of what the law says.
Totally. I get why some “reaction” videos get taken down because they pretty much just play the song and don’t offer any of their own constant. Rick breaks it down; he analyzes all the different parts, he rarely plays more than 10 seconds of the full track. It’s totally his content and his video and is definitely fair use.
@@Zeric1 yep
Kudos
Artists should be grateful that you are raising their profiles so they are not forgotten. Surely the reason for creating any art is to immortalise it? Your videos do just that. Keep it up.
It must have all worked out because I just watched 99 - The Cars - and loved it. I can’t imagine any member of the band watching this video and thinking this is hurting us in some way. Anyway, I think it’s high time you do a vid about a Replacements song.
I know your rant is about the copyright strike but it’s outrageous that your content is demonetised when you are drawing positive attention to an artist’s work. They should be paying you!
They don't care about that. UA-cam wants as much revenue going to corporate interests as they can muster. Sad but true!
There’s no need to share revenue or demonetize because it is completely okay and fair for Rick to use 10 seconds of a song for educational purposes. YT and these record label interests are doing the wrong thing. Remember that.
@@phadrus They are just greedy ravenous wolves .... haha
The lead singer and main songwriter are both deceased.
The people who did this have nothing to do with the song.
Nothing.
Maybe you’re right, but the one’s still living better get involved and fix this. Rick is helping provide exposure to millions of people who may have never heard of The Cars.
like the guy who sued Zeppelin!
@@chuckconner3694 I think it's the fact that he doesn't own the rights to the music he plays. He's not making any money from it, I don't think, but he's using the music without permission. So who ever owns the rights to the music is coming after him. Or telling him to stop using copyrighted material.
I think copyright should extend through the life of the artist, plus roughly 10 years. Even that seems pretty generous to those relatives of theirs. In addition, how about SHARING the money from these videos, instead of taking it all away?
Well Ric sang more songs than Ben I think but point still stands. I even saw Elliot share the video on Facebook
Hi Rick. I’m a 59 yr old lady living in Scotland. I’m also a complete beginner, having decided to learn guitar about 3 months ago. I love your videos, as I CAN remember the older bands etc. I’m a big fan of Pink Floyd and Peter Frampton especially. Your videos help me to understand how these tracks are put together and how much I have to learn. I am amazed at how fantastically you recreate these wonderful tracks. It’s a shame that these bands/artists are only thinking of the money and not the love of music that the fans have. Please don’t give up doing these videos Rick. It’s their loss not to be included on your channel. The Cars?? I only remember their one track. I can live without listening to them in future!!! Take care XX
Rick introduced to to tons of new artists that I love through his videos, I know first hand that he is doing more help than harm to anyone he mentions on his channel
I can't imagine why an artist or label would *EVER* want to block a channel like this from highlighting their work. He's not stealing the song. He's not playing the entire song uninterrupted. He's explaining why it's great and why you should listen to it and how you can listen to it even better and more thoroughly so you can appreciate it even more. How in the world could an artist or label ever think this was anything other than *AWESOME?* It's mind boggling.
It's almost never the artist. It's always a lawyer or a copyright troll. Same as when "U2" sued Negativland: turns out when the band tracked down The Edge in the Potemkin village that the label keeps U2 locked up in, he didn't even know about the suit and didn't want it to happen.
@@asusmctablet9180 I had a troll file a copyright claim on me. Unfortunately for him it was a song a friend wrote and performed and had given me permission to use it.
@@ellsworth1956 see, people like that need to be banned from UA-cam. Make one fraudulent claim and you're gone, doesn't matter who you represent. That would get rid of some of the bullshit I've seen, like Milli Vanilli claiming an Alan Parsons song, which I've seen right here on UA-cam.
It's not the artist-- unless the artist has a no streaming clause where they refuse to allow a work or works to be digitally distributed (Tool used to do this and I believe Eagles still block their own music). A private contract between UMG and Google-UA-cam allows UMG to control what is said about their artists and how their artists are used.
Rick, I'm pretty sure I speak for all 2.1 MILLION of us subscribers, that we are on your side. Whatever you need from us, let us know. We'll help you.
I’m fairly new to Rick’s channel and aware of the demonetization, but unaware of the insanity going on with copyrights. Someone may have already brought this up, but I wish some member of the congressional hearing would have asked Don Henley if he made a list of all the songs he and his bandmates covered in their early years and retroactively paid the artists. Keep up the good work, Rick!
Had it happen to me a few days ago on TikTok on a song I own, wrote, produced, recorded! Maddening. Our mutual friend Bumblefoot and Derek Sherinian both play on it, so I was PISSED. Just another day with the censors! :-/ I feel your pain Rick.
Years ago when royalty-free production music was purchased on CD, I bought a number of CDs of music for my PBS TV show (which is now a UA-cam show) about marine life. Ten or so years later, the publishing library was acquired by Getty and for about a year I got constant copyright notices on UA-cam apparently from Getty. I had to keep contesting for every video to straighten it out. I provided proof that I had legally licensed the music (CDs that cost $99 each which was the license cost). I finally got so sick of it that I tracked down someone at Getty. They told me they were NOT the ones issuing the warnings. It was the content ID system doing it automatically. Only the authorized person at Getty could "approve"--and remove the copyright warning, but the warnings were being issued automatically. So they were actually as annoyed about it as I was. There were thousands of people who licensed music from that same library and they were dealing with legions of angry producers every day.
Robots will kill us all
Nowdays, algorithms are going crazy. Not just only in UA-cam but Facebook and Instagram too. They take down several content with no prove of abuse or any kind of infringement. I dont know if this happening cuz they are less people working due corona or they are relying too much on their AI ...
Skynet has become self aware
@@alonsomesia7385 It's largely a question of volume. There's simply too much content out there for an actual human to scan it all, so they automate the process.
@Andy Arriaga I can see how the algorithm might be doing this automatically without their direct knowledge... but haven't they ever wondered why they keep getting cheques from UA-cam? :-)
