I might have an oilcooler..i think its for an 230, but its look like the same size. I will check it out tomorrow. Btw, i live in Sweden, and if you pay for the shipping, its yours for free! :-)
Hey man look on autodoc for the oil cooler and you can get one for a w116 Is not the exact one and it has top and bottom inlet/outlet connection but with some slight modification you can make it fit. I did it on my w123 and it sits nicely. Good luck
Very satisfactory to watch, all though I was just at the dentist today and removed a tooth and that high pitched dremel sound brought back bad memories. 😳😁
4:53 oi, those timing chain sprockets are really really worn. See the way they are bent over and even broken at the tips? Might want to think about replacing those. Great episode.
Despite that, for the age of the engine it seems pretty well taken care of. Sure they get old and worn out and replacement would do it good, but I'm surprised at the lack of well, destruction here.
@@RestoreIt Well, if the client doesn't want to shell out money for a new part, you might be able to do this: If the sprocket is simply keyed to the cam AND if the hub is symmetrical (no offset) you could turn the sprocket around and gently file the tips that are gnarled over so the chain seats nicely. Just don't forget to transfer any timing marks to the other side of the sprocket too. That will buy some time before the part fails.
I would go with Hydroblasting to clean up the parts , it also takes off rust and doesn’t leave pitting like sand blasting. Didn’t know about Ice blasting before this video.
great going champ 🤜🤛 as for the cooler, get a reputable radiator joint and ask them to either repair the one you have or make a better one (more cores) usually they come up with a better bigger and more durable solution also look up forums until then, keep the grrat content coming 🥃🥃
Just a friendly. Never grind valve covers or manifolds unless you flatten them before install. Since you haven’t done that yet I would recommend it. Good job on it so far.
´the wire whell doesnt take off material...i use it in the shop to clean off old gaskets and sealer on valve covers and sumps and if you look closey it doesnt even remove the machining marks...you just have to use a not very aggressive wire wheel and dont force it, obviously
The black paint on the bell housing is overspray from the factory, and wasn't necessary to remove. The shift linkage was a non coated steel when new, and was never painted. Only a yellow inspection paint mark on each end would have been present. The Exhaust gas recirculation pipe is stainless steel, and was left bare when new. It was not painted. However, the nuts on each end were yellow zinc plated. In addition, the top of the EGR valve was yellow zinc, not clear zinc (silver). The fan and pulley on the alternator were clear zinc plated when new. They were never painted.
Hello :)! There is some time I would like ask to you about, I hope you will don't take it bad. So, why are you using the dremel with a metal brush for cleaning the aluminium part? It's a thing i often see, and it always a paint to watch it as it scratch and alter the aluminium surface in the process. Why don't you use instead some soda blasting on the aluminium part, it's a good compromise for removing greases film and contaminant as paint. That's especially really effiency for cleaning sensitive part as carburators. Always found it (little ;)) damaging your overall resaerch of high quality and clean as possible restaurations. Otherwise, as usual, good continuation to you ;)!
Hey man! I've seen some pretty gnarly injuries from using a bench grinder/wire wheel without gloves. It makes me scared when I see you do it.... Stay safe
ive been in a hurry before and once had my index fingered sucked into a bench grinder. it doesnt happen twice. get some pliers and gloves. it aint worth the pain and inconvenience of healing....
For the love of god please wear a respirator when sanding, cleaning and de-rusting surfaces :/ Love your videos I have already learned a lot about Body work and welding just from watching your work :)
Will you replace the starter motor brushes as a sort of preventative maintenance or are they not really worth replacing until the starter stops working properly?
Something else worth talking to the owner about is deleting the oil cooler. Yes, I did this to my own car, and it is fine. Simply fit blanking plugs & copper sealing washers in place of the oil cooler fittings on the engine. It has no ill effects to the engine.
@@goeatapizza2572 actually they don’t. The ones that are fitted with air conditioning usually have a bigger radiator. Mine has a three core radiator. Non ac ones use a two core, except in hotter regions like Australia, where three core types are used. The oil cooler in my 123 wagon is still there, but is not used.
May I ask what the make and model is of that steam cleaner? I may want to purchase similar equipment if it's within my budget. Thanks for another great video!
I wee people spend thousands on these cars getting them like new, then selling them for a lot less than it cost them to do so, just to keep them there. That model next to the rover p6 are worth saving for what they taught us.
Where do you leave the water with the paint remover? and which rust remover are you using? Here in the netherlands I can almost choose of just 1 remover and 1 reformer..
I also restored a M110. I think you won't get around redoing the head. Valves, valveseals, valveseats, resurfacing, you know the drill... Should be around 2000 Pounds
I can only imagine what you could do with a 500 Watt Laser Cleaning machine. You would save many hours of time. Not sure how expensive they are. Have you considered one?
Hello !… J’savais même pas qu’il y avait des 5 chez Merco ! V’la la pollution avec tout ces produits chimiques , mais c’est le résultat qui compte. J’en remets une couche, vidéo pas finie 😿
Great job! Just wondering, where does the grease go when you steam clean? I expected to see it dripping off but it seems to just evaporate or disappear?
Curious if you know Sandro over at Auto Craft Car Detailing in Melbourne. He’s practically the best detailer in the developed world. Look him up and his channel up. You guys deserve to have a beer together.
I agree with degreasing and steam cleaning but I would have covered alternator and ignition distributor & other sensitive parts..also rubbing with the dremel and the rotating brush the alloy head cover is not a recommended treatment, hope it was at least a brass brush, not steel
there are people who make custom oil coolers and radiators for very cheap...overhere in Portugal you would be looking at about 200€ tops for a custom oil cooler in aluminium and very similar to the original....
I was searching and looking forward to the dry ice blasting video, but it’s nowhere to be found despite that this deep clean video is already 6 months old.
You should know it's easy and hard to make that much profit. I say EASY because it's very possible to make that much, and Hard because you'll need professional assistance to do it, I'd suggest you get assisted by a market advisor.
I can't disclose too much, but yea I've been using a coach called 'Mrs Mary Margaret Refior and through her guidance, I've been able to make approx. $24,000 in dividends on a monthly basis, it is pretty straightforward, not as complicated as it used to be.
@Andrea Stefano You don't need to be surprised Andrea because I'm also trading with Expert Mary Margaret Refior she helped me recover all that I lost trying to trade by my self.
It's funny that we still call that a rocker cover even though there may not be rockers under it. Someone smarter than me ought to come up with a better name for it.
Nice. But use the original Nuts and Bolts back on t he engine. Hate seeing Made in China bullshit on classics. The quality of German steel is so much better than today's made in china stuff :/

Very satisfying to watch! Awesome work
Your videos are always great! As an old Mercedes fan I loved it.
My goodness! You are clearly a very patient & painstaking man!
I always enjoy watching you work. a nice job like always.
Excellent restoration

Please include window seal replacements in a future video! I have a 300CD and love these videos so far.
I appreciate how his clips don't have unnecessary music playing on them
Awesome information to restore that engine back to new condition.
For the cooler, could you use a fin comb tool to straighten the fins and repaint the outer housing?
that was so interesting ! i wish i had all the tools and spacework to get similar stuff done too
As always, a great restoration 👍
Very satisfactory to watch, all though I was just at the dentist today and removed a tooth and that high pitched dremel sound brought back bad memories. 😳😁

Great progress, looking forward to the next episode. Once again, great camera work.

I used to work on loads of those 110 engines years ago, always needed valve guides and seals.

I was going to mention the same thing. You especially don't want to on the mating surfaces.
You can use a fin comb for radiators on the oil cooler.
I work as a mechanic and have 9 years of skill from Algeria. I am looking for a job in your country. I like your country very much. I am 29 years old.

The fins of the alternator also have to be zinc plated, the exhaust manifolds are originally ceramic coated in a light grey paint ( almost white)

Hi,
What brand of wire wheel do you use for the dremel?
I bought some, but they fell apart in a few seconds of use.
Aliexpress 2 ~ 5min use (buy set x100)

Don't use caustic degreaser. It will severley attack the aluminium.

It drips down. You can see he has a large pan under the engine to catch it.
You must go through a hell of a lot of the small rotary wire wheels ?
Better plug up those ports to prevent contaminating the combustion chambers mate
