I'm 72 and i have wanted to relearn watercolor painting after 40 year lapse. i wanted to paint again to help me work thru grief and depression. its been fun and its been hard. im so thankful for all the artists who are sharing their time and talents to those who want to learn whatever their arts and crafts specialties are.
I can totally relate. I'm using watercolor as an outlet for the heartbreak I feel watching Alzheimer's rob my sweet husband of his abilities ever so slowly.
I suffer from depression, anxiety, and complex ptsd from many traumatic events that happened in my childhood. I just needed to tell you what a difference you have made in my life.
What a blessing you are. Sharing your precious gift with others in such a down to earth wonderful way. I am a beginner at the age of 66 and struggling every day to rise above some health issues, I am blessed to have found you and your teaching videos. The first one I did was the bunny and it was so good I couldn't believe I did it. I make cards and that's what I did. I even made a second one. But I just want to thank you Emma for inspiring this still young at heart lady to find passion in learning water color painting which I have wanted to learn for a long time. So I Bless you with the blessings of heaven and may you continue to encourage people to create something beautiful through water color painting and using their gifts to bless others. You sure have and are encouraging me. You are one special lady!!!!!
@MaryPauley, Aloha! Kindred spirits! I too as a “ lady of Grace” am wanting to learn this, hoping I have the patience to try & keep @ it , longing to enjoy someday get the hang of it! Lol love & Blessings to you! 👋😁❤️🙏💃💃💃
Im really thankful for this women, she is helping me connect with a part of myself that I never met before, and making it fun and inspiring, God bless her with happines and abundance, her videos are priceless 😍

You too are inspiring me! I always wanted to learn painting from a teacher when I was a child but my parents couldn’t afford it and now when I am 24 and have my own money but was hesitating to start! You comment really inspired me dear. 🌼
I too have had a 40 year lapse in my water color painting and am now alone with time to fill following the loss of two husbands. I am a very sharp and mentally able 86 year old. I am loving watching the online tutorials and learning a lot and it’s coming back to me. I paint every day. Thank you.❤
I am a 78 year old self taught watercolor beginner. Was doing ok until Covid sent me into a downward spiral. I also have suffered from depression since childhood. I always said “When I grow up, I want to be an artist. “. Well it’s time. Been struggling with. Watercolor now for a while (I actually started as an oil painter) so I do have some training in painting. Well last night I stumbled onto your UA-cam tutorials. What an amazing find for me. You are exactly what I need at this time. I need to practice all the. Strokes and how to hold a brush etc. Thank you so much for doing this for those of us cannot find an instructor in my area. You are amazing and so calming to watch and to listen to. I can’t say enough to thank you. Love your work!
I have searched utube endlessly without finding a teacher that really hit the mark till I found you! I love your teaching style! Easy to follow! Thank you!
Just finished the final flower bouquet in this video after about 6 hours of practice across 3 days. My friends said I came pretty close. That's a testament to how good a teacher you are. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge with the world for free.
The best 31 minutes spent in a watercolor class ever. Emma, you are so clear, so precise and so calm in the way you teach us how to make painting a joy instead of frustration. You not only show us how to do paint beautiful flowers but how to put the paint down on the paper, which kind of paper, not too much water, and ust the right amount of pressure. Success. Thank you for your amazing videos. After watching how to make each stroke of each flower you tied it all together with a painting showing us that all you taught us can be used to make our own bouquet.
My thoughts exactly.... Now I don't have to type it 😁 Teach the drills and then how to pull it all together into a beautiful picture. Perfect for learning a new hobby!
You are a wonderful instructor- like you, I am also a former teacher (retired high school teacher). It's so great how you've transferred your teaching skills over to watercolor instruction. Thank you for making this incredible transition! Your videos have taught me so much.
I paid for an expensive course last year to learn exactly what you have taught in the 20 minutes I watched your video. The course was very rigid, you could only make the leaves, petals and bubs a certain way, no adding extra pigment once the petals or leaves were laid out, so you needed to have that perfect technique, 1 stroke = Perfect shape and pigment. You were not allowed to go over what you had painted to add little stems inside the petals, that had to be laid out and thought about while laying down your petal. You could not use colour bleeds, which was totally banned, a stem and bottom of the flower had to be laid using the perfect technique once more. It was so rigid I felt everything I was doing was wrong and I could feel the teacher frowning upon me through the Internet. Your video is fantastic, giving so much more flexibility to what I was told before. It's what I love about watercolour, it is a flexible media and mistakes can be corrected and used to make something else or add character to a painting. I might go back to painting flowers. :) I am so glad I watched this. Thank you.
You are truly a teacher , and not just an artist. Thank you for all your help. You have been the BEST tutorial I've found. I'm new at painting and so many tutorials never mention even the size brushes they are using, it can be very discouraging. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
my husband sent this UA-cam to me because I put my paints away. Frustrated! but I love the way you explain how to make paint. Thanks. getting my paints out today.
Love your tutorials on the drills and practice strokes. It's so important to go back to basics often. At least for me. If I'm away from them too long, my memory muscle forgets! Thanks, Emma!!!
I cannot believe how much I’ve learned from you Emma! I have never done any painting at all and can see my progress, finally! Thank you so much for sharing your talents!
That is beautiful! And in hands of an artist, looks easy. However, much as I learned about the strokes (& to practice doing drills)... What you can't teach me is that which I totally lack ~ "an eye" for how it will come together. I stood here mesmerized the whole time & 'saved' video to watch again, when have more time to try it too. Thank you! That was terrific fun & inspiring!
i know it's double speed Emma, but you make it look soooooo easy. Yes, I too, like Mary, have wanted to do water colour painting for years, and I have tried a few times, but, now I have found your channel and am working through the drills with your expertise to guide me, you are incredible Emma, your channel is so calming, so inspiring, sharing all your talents with others, I could never afford art classes or schools, I took up painting about 20+ years ago as therapy, it's the only thing that helps me to be totally absorbed a sort of meditative mindfulness and get relief from my tortured mind, I am 72 and I am so grateful to lovely ladies like you Emma, especially you, you are certainly a great teacher, and so gentle, forthright and down to Earth, I really love your videos, soooooo wonderful, thankyou sooooo much. Have I told you how lovely you are and how grateful I am..........lol.........thankyou Emma.
Thank you so much Emma for your wonderful lesson and tutorial. I appreciate you taking the time to even show how to troubleshoot what beginners in watercolor might do- which help ease my anxiety and willingness to try. This is so new to me so I enjoyed the step-by-step lesson! You are wonderful and have a gift for painting and teaching!
Hi Emma, just want to tell you how inspiring you are. Watercolor was my greatest fear and i never went near it after my 1st try but you make it look so easy and enjoyable. When life is too serious and stressful, your tutorials make it bearable and even FUN! Thank you for being a big part of my weekends and continue being an inspiration for aspiring painters like us❤
What a joy it is to follow your tutorials. I just started playing with watercolors (not one ounce of artistic skill here) and I am falling in love with them. Your tutorials have helped me learn and practice but the best part is I am painting beautiful flowers that bring me joy. Thank you for sharing your talent and explaining everything in such a simple manner that is easy to understand. I can't wait to become a patron and learn more with you. Sending blessings to you and your loved ones.
You are an amazing woman Emma, I have so much respect for you and your amazing talent. I love the way you approach teaching those of us that have lived a long life and still want to learn more. You are perfect for us, I thank God for you sweetheart, Hod bless ❤
Waouh!
Thank you Emma! This video is exactly what I needed! I love how you explain and demonstrate the strokes then how to use them in flowers...also the trouble shooting! This is brilliant teaching and just what I’ve been looking for! Please do more just like this 🤞🏼🙏🏼🤞🏼Yaaaay... can’t wait to get into my studio and try 😬🎨
You should really check out De Winton Paper Co.s channel. Its run by Harriett de Winton and I’m almost certain Emma gets her material, lingo and techniques from her. The videos are eerily similar and Emmas videos are all dated later than the other woman’s videos. Harriett is a published watercolor botanical specialist lol. If you think these videos are well explained you will absolutely love the videos from Harriett because she explains the techniques even better if you can even imagine that is possible lol . She is phenomenal at teaching watercolor and she has everything from the most basic beginner instructions to very technical and detailed. She will teach you how to make some of the most beautiful watercolor botanicals and she teaches in a way that makes it so easy! I promise you. I really hope you’ll check her out because Ive never seen anyone as good as. or better than her. And she’s English so the accent is fun and extremely soothing to listen to LOL
@@lritz1 what an odd thing to comment on someone’s video. I actually was messaging with Harriet the other day! You’re right, she is a wonderful artist and teacher. I love her work and just discovered her videos! To be honestly though, if one of my followers commented what you did about me on her videos, I would be so disappointed. Instead of taking your time to question the integrity of my videos, head on over to her channel and show her some more love! #communityovercompetition
Thank you so much for another helpful video 🙏 I am learning more and more by watching you and listening to your explanations 😊 Lots of love from a very grateful beginner 💖
This was so helpful. I always avoided painting flowers, now I think I'm ready. Will definitely do the exercises. Thank you for all your drill and practice stroke videos.
I had to pause the video (I’m at the peony) to THANK YOU!!! I’ve needed just this kind of explanation for EVER! I’m a super-beginner and this has all seemed so mysterious and beyond my ability until right this MINUTE. I have HOPE ❤️
Thank you for the tutorial and ... assignment to practice. I am totally a beginner! I watched my grandmothers paint - probably acrylics. Now I am a grandma and enjoying expanding my horizons. So thank you for just teaching with no distractions. 🎉
Thank you. I am a silk painter, but I can not paint on silk for now. So I follow your instructions on this video and I am so happy with the results. I did not made it with all the flowers like yours. I love watercolor painting !
I'm German and live in New Zealand. I have just discovered your channel and absolutely love it. You are inspiring me to go back to water colours after a lifetime of acrylic painting. Thank you so much for your lovely videos!
How awesome, your willingness to make these awesome teaching videos that are beyond helpful! Thank you SO much! You have a God gifted talent for art! I love art and calligraphy as well and this is the BEST video I’ve seen yet! God bless you! 😇
I am now applying my eye liner with light pressure, heavy pressure, light pressure!!!! Lol your voice Emma is singing in my head. Your beginner drills are fantastic!
hello from France! Thank you so much, I improved my painting thanks to you! I'm going to check if you propose other exercises on your channel. Have a nice day, and again, thnak you!
I have watched this video over and over. Helps so much. Thank you for making these videos. I have learned so much from watching you. It’s almost just as relaxing just watching you paint as it is to paint my self. 😊
I have been watching your videos and following along for several months now and love them all! I particularly like this video as it shows how to paint each flower and then how to put it all together to make a beautiful (but easy enough to follow) composition. I often find that I can paint the individual flowers but I don't know how to put it together into a painting that looks complete. This video showed a lovely finished product. I hope you do more like this one!
Thank you for sharing your amazing talents! I am new to watercolor and you are so inspiring! I also love how you have organized your videos into playlists. It makes it easy to find what you are looking for. I hope you will continue to make these videos! You have a fan for life!!
Bonjour, je ne parle pas anglais, mais en suivant vos vidéos j'arrive à comprendre comment vous faites. Votre bouquet est magnifique. Merci pour le partage. Anne
Emma, 👏👏👏💓Thank you so much! You’re a wonderful teacher, you explain things so well, I rewatch your videos as I do my watercolor painting. Hope you realize how positive you are in our lives! 🤗😍
The thoroughness of this video is so impressive and helpful. I picked up watercolor as a new hobby about a month ago and it’s not as easy as people make it look but tutorials like this make me want to keep going! Thank you!
Emma - you are just the best teacher I’ve ever met . I hated paint flowers - with you showing how to do, a so useful funny technique, it was an adventure. I’ll stay wirh you and look forward to everething you’ll teach me. Jihaaa!! Best wishes from eva maria stockholm sweden
You are now my favourite tutor, I notice that your brush goes back in to shape as your lifting it off your paper so I’m guessing that’s where better brushes come in to their own, thank you for another fantastic tutorial Emma.
I watched your video this afternoon and headout to get some basic watercolor supplies in the evening. Im gonna give this a try tonight! My husband thinks doing some watercoloring will help with my anxiety and watching your video alone already did help a bit. I have absolutely zero background in painting and arts. My background is science and research so this is gonna be quite an opposite to how I use to operate. I love how things look a bit messy at first and turn out so nicely and pretty at the end. I need to learn to trust the process! 😁 Love the way you explain it, Emma! ❤️
Emma you are just the best! To teach florals to beginners you are the best teacher. This class was impressive and it inspired me so so much to continue trying to do nice florals like yours. I follow many watercolor artist since I am learning on my own but you are my favorite and the best of all. May God bless you in everything you do.
You are such an amazing person sharing all your knowledge and a great great demonstrator and teacher. Thank youuuuuuu so very much for helping me starting with my water colors. Love from Pakistan. Stay blessed 😊
This story sounds familiar! I’m 61 and have been painting with acrylics for about 3 years. Watercolor has always been a passion of mine but I really need help learning this! Emma’s videos are so helpful! This is therapy for me! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. It really clarified how to put the different parts/strokes of the flowers and leaves together in a painting. You are a great instructor.😊
Very helpful video. I appreciate that you show “this is what happens when …”. It also helps that you started with strokes and built in those, tying them into the complete flower. I can’t say I am “there” yet, but I am improving with your help. Thanks! I watch a few others on utube, but I keep coming back to your videos. The others I am in a class learning while, with you, I feel like I’m sitting down with a friend and we are painting together. It’s very calming, enjoyable, and helpful. 👍 🥰
You are so good at this! I think it is obvious you have worked hard for a while to get where you are! I look forward to learning more from you! I am working on patience!
Emma, so lovely, you make lessons so light and fun and really explain things so well! I really appreciate your lessons 👏❤️. Thank you for sharing your talents with us
Best watercolour instructional video on all of UA-cam! Was ready to give up on loose florals until I stumbled upon this. I CAN DO IT NOW! Thanks Emma! ❤❤❤❤
Just subscribed to your channel. At 59 I wanted some kind of painting in my life, so I started doing acrylic painting and loved it!!! So now I’m trying water coloring and really have no idea what I’m doing. I watched this video and absolutely loved how you are explaining everything!!! So now I’m hooked 😊
You are so good at making me and I hope everyone so confident. My pictures do not look like yours for nothing. But you make me feel like I am getting better... I can not thank you enough. You make it look easy. But you can tell that you know what you are doing. How many years of schooling? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Have a nice day, and again, thnak you!
You explained and show me.. Exactly what I need.. I have zero painting or art basic... So here goes nothing.
I’m 74 and I’m giving it a try! Thank You!
Bonjour, je ne parle pas anglais, mais en suivant vos vidéos j'arrive à comprendre comment vous faites. Votre bouquet est magnifique. Merci pour le partage. Anne
Thank you for sharing this. I failed so many times trying to make these shapes, and now thanks to you I'm starting to understand it!
Thank you!
I was just about to say she makes it look so easy!, yet it’s such a great tutorial. I got addicted to practicing these strokes😅
@@Liciaromero i really need to get back into painting but depression got the best of me this summer lol

I love your sharing and your teaching. Your baby boy is a glorious gift.
You really are a great artist AND a wonderful teacher of your skill...thank you!!!
You are now my favourite tutor, I notice that your brush goes back in to shape as your lifting it off your paper so I’m guessing that’s where better brushes come in to their own, thank you for another fantastic tutorial Emma.
I am convinced that this is the best florals tutorial for beginners! I love it!
Great for beginners and a great refresher for more seasoned painters - TWO in ONE! Like your loose creations.
Thank you, Emma, for such a great instructional videoI. You are a gifted teacher.
I am so happy to find you. It is amazing how simple Everything is. I will practice, practice, practice. Blessings to you!
Emma you are just the best! To teach florals to beginners you are the best teacher. This class was impressive and it inspired me so so much to continue trying to do nice florals like yours. I follow many watercolor artist since I am learning on my own but you are my favorite and the best of all. May God bless you in everything you do.

This story sounds familiar! I’m 61 and have been painting with acrylics for about 3 years. Watercolor has always been a passion of mine but I really need help learning this! Emma’s videos are so helpful! This is therapy for me! Thank you!

❤What a gift. I am brand new. Found you and holding my new brushes and gently doing your drills. I am excited about your book in September. Thank you.
Vraiment formidable, j'apprends beaucoup avec vous, Merci...
Thank you so much. Convinced me I need to sign up under your Patreon until I can once again feel comfortable comfortable to paint a picture again.
You are so good at this! I think it is obvious you have worked hard for a while to get where you are! I look forward to learning more from you! I am working on patience!

Loved the demonstration of the water bleeding at the end. Watercolor is so fascinating! I am excited to get my beginner supplies for Mother's Day :)
Such an amazing teacher! Step by step explanation was so easy to follow!
Thank you so much!♡♡♡
Very detailed and easy to practise. I love your dreamy little floral paintings so much.

You are so good at making me and I hope everyone so confident. My pictures do not look like yours for nothing. But you make me feel like I am getting better... I can not thank you enough. You make it look easy. But you can tell that you know what you are doing. How many years of schooling? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
