- Nancy and I spent a very windy day at the mouth of the Blind Sucker River near Grand Marais, Michigan hunting for agates and other rocks. I found a big agate and we both found plenty of other nice rocks.
I didn't get a chance to add close ups of my big agate in the video, but I posted it on my Instagram page. pCdO-8n4rz...

- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

Checked them out thnx
lol I came to the comments section to DEMAND pics! Thanks for sharing; that's a beaut! What are your plans for it?
Nice big agate! I agree with Nancy, A++!
@@SyntaxMSU I plan to keep that one as is. I don't usually do anything to my own agate finds.
🙋♀️❤❤🌷🌻Another great outing! THANK YOU!
You're welcome, Margaret.
Outstanding finds..it still amazes me on the infinite number of farout rocks there are up there in Michigan..I would keep everything you guys put back and then some..lol..thanks for sharing..🙏✌️
At least Nancy and I are on the same page about what to keep.
I want all those rocks you are putting back, we don’t have rocks like this ☹️
Where ever I’ve ‘picked’ or found rocks, nothing ever seems to compare to the brilliant colors and designs of Lake Superior stones.😍👍I get antsy when it’s been a while since I’ve been able to be UP there- nothing ever seems to quite measure up to what Lady Superior produces.😊🪨🌊🌬💥💗
Great beach with lots of beautiful rocks. My bucket would have been quite full. :)
Those Lake Superior beaches are awesome. I love it up there.
Thanks for braving the cold and the wind. Nancy’s prediction came true. You did find a big agate. That large unusual stone was really cool too. Thanks for sharing.
As she was saying that I was thinking, "What are you promising??? That's going to be hard to live up to!" I guess I need to bring her along more often to make wild predictions.
@@MichiganRocks She was definitely your good luck charm that day !
THANK YOU! I enjoyed going along the river with you and Nancy and not feeling the cold. Nancy needs gloves. You both are very pleasant to watch! Love the sound of water! I cried, you let go of gneiss, quartz and granite. I am adding on my bucket list "Michigan rock rounding"
Nancy has gloves, but she kept taking them off for the video. she was wearing normal winter gloves, but I did offer her some neoprene gloves.
Me too!!
The checker board unakite is really pretty! ❤️❤️😃
That’s a fine agate! Nice rocks Rob and Nancy! Nicely done!
Thanks!
It was great to see Nancy getting her hound on too! It looked cold - but so worth it. I hope we can see that agate cut someday.
I won't be cutting that agate. That's a trophy that I'll keep as is. Sorry!
Really nice finds! Great to see you both out braving the cold and enjoying time together!
It was chilly but fun.
Fun day with lots of wind. Yeah on the big agate
I could have done without all the wind, but it sure was a fun day.
Wow ! Looking at your videos, Michigan really does rock !!! Thanks for sharing !
I love my channel name because it can be taken several ways. I graduated from the University of Michigan too, so that fits in well too.
Cool!!! Awesome rocks!!! You guys are hard core rock finders!!! Thanks for sharing! Happy Mom's Day Nancy!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
I just relayed your Mother's Day wished to her.
Thanks for sharing very nice adventure .
You're welcome, John.
Thanks so much. I really enjoyed our walk.
Thanks for tagging along.
Fantastic find guys xx
Michigan shorelines are such beautiful areas to hunt stones
You've got that right!
I just wanted to say that it was our extreme pleasure to meet Rob in person and he is gracious and kind ! My husband was absolutely thrilled to meet him in person.
Were you the couple I met at Netta's?
Yes, my husband is just thrilled to meet you. He retired and was bored until he found your videos. Now I seem to spend a lot of time walking in cold water with him.
Thanks for the video...
Very pretty rocks.
Great hunt, guys!!! Loves all the Unakite and other green rocks. The big agate is FABULOUS! 😃💯🙌🏼
I am attracted to green rocks too, for some reason.
I loved all the rocks you tossed back. Great video as always.
Thanks, Stacey.
Dude!!! That big chonker agate is awesome!!! I haven’t been rockhounding for like two weeks… I’m starting to get the shakes 🤣 We have had SO MUCH rain here. I’m sure there’s great stuff washing out in the creeks.
It has been a rainy, cold spring here too, but this week looks like it's going to be beautiful.
That was so satisfying to watch! Always nice to see Nancy, she rocked it today! I‘ll be coming to Michigan in July to spend a week with my husband in Christmas rock hunting and celebrating our 25th anniversary so I live seeing what to look for!
Christmas in July! How fun!
Hi, Rob, I love your adventures. Thank you, for taking us along.
I live in Georgia, southern part, by Florida. We don't have many rocks.
I love rocks.
Thank you, again!
You have some fossilized coral down that way. Some of that is really awesome.
Nice finds.
Thanks guys! This video has me excited! We’re headed up to Lake Michigan next weekend for the summer 😍
That sounds exciting too!
Excellent video Rob! Great day out on Lake Superior. Hopefully one day I make it up there. I love the unikite and agate finds. Sweet seam agate Nancy! Great variety of rocks, beautiful views and peaceful waves. Thank you!
I'd call this a very successful day.
It's really cool that you and Nancy like to go on long drives to check out beaches for rock hunting. My hubby and I like to go on long drives to nowhere too. Most people don't understand why we do it, think we're wasting time and gas. Duh... Look at ALL that beautiful scenery and the peace of mind you enjoy in return!
I never mind driving in the U.P. We ended up in Marquette and stayed with my sister and brother in law, so there was more than one reason for the trip. My mom lives in Marquette too, and it was nice to see her.
Congratulations on the agate! Nice to see Nancy joining you. 😊 Some really cool rocks on this trip.
Thanks! That agate made my day.
Big Daddy....Best of Show! But boy, do I love Nancy going down with that huge bucket. That's a woman after my heart....she knows!
And an "eh"? Yooper talk!
There was an "eh?" Me or Nancy? I don't remember either of us speaking yooperese.
@@MichiganRocks you!
That's my kind of beach. Congrats!
The kind with huge agates? I like those beaches too.
12:50 great stripey rock nancy!
Honestly I dont know much about rocks but these videos are still very pleasant
Keep watching them and pretty soon you'll know a little more about rocks!
Congratulations on finding the biggest agate so far , who knows you may find a bigger one in future 👍
I sure hope so. It wouldn't be any fun going out without dreaming about hitting the jackpot along the way.
You two are lovely. Nice video! Never would have thought I'd like watching stone hunting videos, but I sure do now!
I never thought I'd be making rock hunting videos, but here we are.
You two make a fun pair and fill in each other's rock knowledge. What a fun hunt. Cold, but fun.
I think Nancy knows more than I do. She taught eighth grade earth science.
I think I would be bringing home buckets and buckets of those pretty rocks. So fun to watch your adventures, keep them coming.
You must have very strong arms. Rocks are heavy.
I’m as green as those rocks! Thanks for sharing, stay warm you two!
Ha ha! That's a funny way to put it.
Hi there - I really enjoy your videos. I just discovered your channel last week and have looked a quite a few of your rock hunts. I am wondering what the stone is that had the round looking hole in it toward the beginning of this video. You mentioned it was from Canada? How do those holes get in? is is a fossil or man made? Anyway thanks for bribing us along on your trips. I live in NYC and your vids give me bit of relaxing out in nature virtually! lol
That's an omar or omarolluk. Here's an article about them: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omarolluk
@@MichiganRocks Wow so amazing ! thank you!
13:50 another cool one!
Nice agate!
These videos help me recognize my rocks it helps Thank you for them and keep it up
I'm not a geologist, so I only know a few basic rocks. If you like learning about rocks, you might enjoy these two videos where I took two geologists to the beach with me for some serious identification.

@@MichiganRocks thank you I’ve seen one of them but I’ll watch the other.
Wow!
The chartreuse color of epidote is so vibrant. Great finds...biggest agate!
Yes, I love that color.
Beautiful rocks!! ❤
I think Nancy needs a warm and waterproof pair of gloves for Mothers Day! : D
Rob, if you sliced down some of those decent sized granite pieces, they would make nice counter tops and table tops for some ritzy doll houses.
Nancy had on some winter gloves and I offered her a pair of neoprene gloves. She was mostly just taking the gloves off for the video. She still has all of her fingers.
I'll keep the granite idea in the back of my mind in case I start making doll houses someday.
I am very happy I stumbled upon your channel recently. I have been enjoying your hunting and tumbling videos. Thank you for the great content!
You’re welcome!
Just this week I found what I believe is a glacially transported Lake Superior Agate in a central Iowa creek bed. I thought it was a piece of gray smokey quartz, but after washing it saw translucent reds, greens, white, black, shades of gray, about the size of my fist. I've got a couple slabs almost credit card thin, and a couple at 1/4" and one 1/2".
That's awesome! According to this map, almost the whole state of Iowa is agate country. orrenfrances.blogspot.com/2018/09/lake-superior-agate-map.html
It's nice to see you and Nancy enjoying the waves, walks, and rocks. I also like, that she picks up rocks that you might walk past.
Yeah, it's good to get another perspective.
Oh man! Nice agate! Did you find it wet, or in the water, or up on a dry stretch? Thanks for sharing another excellent video!
Although I said that the dry rocks are a better place to look, I found that right at the edge of the water.
Certainly great rocks found on a brutal day. Thanks for braving the cold and still smiling!
The smiles weren't fake. It was cold, but I was happy to be there before the summer camping crowd.
@@MichiganRocks I do the Jersey and Delaware beaches. I found loads of shells this year. More than what is normally found.
@@robbybobby6483 People have asked me if shells can be tumbled. I have never tumbled them and would think they'd be too soft. Do you have any experience tumbling them?
@@MichiganRocks I am inclined to say yes being the optimist I am. On my trip I got 3 big bags of Northern Quahog shells. I am core bitting out 5/8" circles that range from 1/4" to 3/8" thick. Basically Wampum purple clam shells are the ones I am making them out of. Bracelets and necklace is my thoughts. I plan on taking the edge off each circle and tumbling with 1200 grit. Just themselves, grit and water. I will let you know how it comes out. Then after they polish I have to drill a hole in the center with the dremel to finish. String them up...I sure hope they can polish in a tumbler. I would hate to hand polish each one. Hey Rob, how do you like using a footpedal?
@@MichiganRocks I see shells in tourist shops all over the beach that are polished. Maybe a vibratory polisher would be better for keeping the shape of the shell.
Awesome, always great to get out, no matter the weather....
Getting out early is a good way to get the best rocks. This is four hours from my house, so it’s hard to be the first one out.
Loved the video! I would want to take them all home! So beautiful.
It was another striped rock day. I love those. You found quite a few nice ones. I would love to see the big agate slabbed, so we can see what’s inside. Isn’t May late in the year to have that much snow still? Brrrrr. At least no competition for the rocks. Nancy looked toasty warm in her blue jacket. That’s her color.
I'm not planning to do anything to the big agate. I'm pretty excited about that one just the way it is.
This is the earliest I have ever gotten up to Lake Superior, so I don't know what it's usually like this time of year. It has been a really cold spring where I live though. I assume it's the same up there. I wish I could get up there as soon as the ice is off the beach, but it's hard to know when that is when I live four hours away.
Nancy doesn't like to be cold, so I was lucky she went with me. She didn't complain though.
Toasty warm wasn’t exactly the experience I had. I did appreciate the various layers though. Brrr!
Absolutely fantastic Rob! I know what you can get Nancy for Christmas... a pair of gloves! Thanks for letting us tag along!
She was wearing normal winter gloves and I offered her a pair of neoprene gloves. She kept taking her glove off to show the rocks. Probably better that way, but I have to put too many things down to take off my gloves. I carry a rock scoop, a camera, and we took turns with the bucket.
@@MichiganRocks I love your gloves! Are you wearing neoprene gloves? Also, what about the magnify scoop. Where did you get that. I have one but it's big to carry.
@@irockgneiss2740 I really like my neoprene gloves. Both the gloves and the loupe are in my Amazon storefront. You can find it in the description of my videos.
When I saw you guys all bundled up I thought this was an old on that I'd missed. :) 90 degrees down here in west Texas. :) I'm glad you've monetized this channel. I've learned so much from you that I'm grateful for a way to pay is back a little. :)
It has been a very chilly spring here. We saw a big iceberg in Lake Huron on our way up there. Today was nicer, almost 60!
Absolutely awesome finds, that big agate was really cool! What a beautiful spot.😍🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was pretty excited to find such a big agate.
What a lunker!!!! I would’ve passed out . Lol
I wasn't even sure it was an agate at first. I was having a hard time believing that I found one that big.
Love rock findings in Arkansas creeks for fossils and to look for arrow heads love your all rocks so pretty.
I haven’t looked for arrow heads yet, but that would be a really fun find.
Awesome finds thank you for braving the cold 😊💙
Awesome hunt, congrats on the agate! You find some awesome rocks!
I don't find many agates, so this was a really good find for me.
Amazing finds. I'm jealous. Lol. I'd love to be there looking at all those stones and crystals. I still need to figure out why my stones don't tumble to a shine. Thank you for all you do in helping.
Have you watched my videos on how to tumble? They might help.
That black rock with the circle hole in it was so cool! I see a lot of nice rocks that I'd keep but you throw them back! You get to visit such nice deserted beaches! That would be so amazing. I'm down in Illinois. Have to go over to SW Michigan beaches to find nice stones. But then there are a lot of people!
It helps to go on freezing cold days. There was a vehicle parked there when we arrived and we could see a couple people down the beach, so we went the other way. When we got back a different vehicle was there but they must have gone in the other direction too.
some nice finds well done 😊
Enjoyed…. Thank you!
Great video Rob and Nancy.
Sooo many pretties on that beach.
Just a few that I'd love to put in my tumbler.
Love the really pretty glassy green rock.
No end of tumbler feed here, that's for sure.
@@MichiganRocks I'm tumbling some really pretty stuff at that moment.
Southland beaches, and Gemstone beach New Zealand.
Iv just uploaded another video of the process
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 I'll have to check it out.
Nice haul from that beach! Can't wait to see what you do with that chunker of an agate!
Hey Jason! I oiled it with mineral oil, and that's all I'm doing. Those are so few and far between that I like to just keep them as I found them.
I love all your videos. Very informative and love your comments I think I’d keep every rock you pick up and show us. I’d have the shore like everywhere on my yard and house. Keep them coming.
I'll definitely keep them coming for awhile.
Gr8 video. Luv the woods walk, beach is lovely, rocks are always awesome. Nice finds both of u. That Omar would have made a cool display piece for one of your creations. maybe the agate look a likes.. are skip an atom agates I'm not sure.. keep rockin.
I have brought Omars home before, but then I don't know what to do with them, so I leave them behind now. They're pretty common in that area.
@@MichiganRocks I'd probably use it for a ring or jewelry dish
@@seashoremudlark3916 I could see using it for that.
Beautiful trip & beauty finds. Congratulations & greetings from PL 👋
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks, Juli! I turned that button on but I didn't really think anyone would use it. I appreciate the support. Thanks so much.
I would have been jumping up and down & yelling if I found that agate!! So cool!
I was pretty happy about this one.
Beautiful!!! Congratulations on finding such a nice solid agate. It seems to have some water level in it, and I like the way it has other colors that pop out at you. The red is a nice touch, and the translucent blue area almost glows. I'm happy for you. Don't worry, because a pounder will happen for you. You have very large hands which makes it difficult to guess the size of an agate you show on a video.
I’m 6’2”. That’s fairly tall, but I don’t feel like my hands are all that big for my height.
I was pretty excited about finding such a big agate. That one is easily four times bigger than any other agate I’ve found.
Rob, you went to one of my favorite agate hunting places on lake superior, mouth of the blind sucker river, this year I had to sit out early agate hunting there because of back surgery, bur it was nice to see that you got there, I have found a few small agates there, but this year had to be in my mind only, congrats on finding your biggest agate ever!
Thanks, Garylee. Last year was the first year I went to this location. I have hunted Perry's Landing or the Lake Superior State Forest Campground and Muskallonge before, but not this spot. I like it too, especially after this year's find.
Oh, I want to go there! Great Video!
It's a nice little spot.
I don't know if you're a King fan, but that banded rock @13:00 reminds me of the stone Flagg gives his henchmen in The Stand. Great video, nice to see the shoreline and enjoy the views. Keep up the great work!
I do like his stuff, but I haven't read the book or seen the miniseries. I just looked it up and see that it's considered his best book, so maybe I need to read it some day.
It’s about time you found a big one!
I know! How big is your biggest find? Have you found one over a pound?
That empty bucket is full of frustration...😂lol. I enjoy watching beach videos like this when I cant get out and hunt. Thank you.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you.
You're welcome.

I'm going to try to go to that location this summer! It'll be a great day trip.
I think you’ll like it.
Nice rocks that you two found on that cold day. It’s 90 degrees here :)
This coming week is finally supposed to be getting a little warmer.
Grandmarais and White Fish point is my favorite place to agate hunt 😁
Anywhere in between is good too.
I felt cold just watching. I loved the big patchy 'dinosaur egg' I would have lugged that beauty home - for no particular reason
The green one? That one was cool.
The rock you picked up at minute 13:32….I have found and tumbled a few of those. Not sure what they are either, but I’ve had very good luck with the polished results. I’ve had the mauve and also a taupe/tan/ white color. I love greens, like at 9:38 and 12:17!! Those were gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing your bride with us, she’s so adorable!!
So that rock at 13:32 doesn't undercut like granite? I think I've brought one of these home in the past, but I can't remember how it turned out. I guess I'll have to bring another one home. They're really pretty. I came really close to taking that one home to make a cab out of, but decided against it.
@@MichiganRocks no sir, was worried about that too. The little white squares against the other colors was quite intriguing. I’m trying to find the ones that I polished. If I locate them I’ll post them to Instagram and tag you. (I actually sold some polished rocks at the Farm Girl Flea Market, they may have been in the box of granite, which, polishing granite, is like going to the dentist, irritating.)
@@jacqulynjohnson6237 That's great news. I'll definitely bring one home the next time.
@@MichiganRocks drats!! I’m not locating those 2 rocks!! They truly did turn out good! Hopefully you’ll find some more so you can try! Maybe I just had luck….lol!
