23:24 Mark unironically explaining obsessive compulsions so well caught me off guard, but honestly it was so nice to see and hear him mention OCD, as someone with ocd it often gets misunderstood and misused by people so it was rlly refreshing to hear him explain some of what it’s like so well
It's so poorly stigmatized and widely misunderstood by people who don't suffer with it or even know about it that I used to think it was "Obsessive CLEANING Disorder" As funny as that is, it just shows the continued massive lack in mental health awareness and the struggles people like you and me go through every day. I do have mild symptoms of OCD, though I don't experience them every day, but I have a ridiculous amount of autism and adhd symptoms that do impact my life and how I'm able to operate. I know my brother has both which makes it more likely for me to have both, but my mom is a weird traditionalist so I'm gonna be on my own because my brother can have mental illnesses, but I can't because I was born with different body parts.😕
it's so hard explaining to people that sometimes my compulsions as somebody who's diagnosed with ocd are horrible and forceful in a way on my emotional and mental state. yes, i HAVE to do this task or complete something a certain way or i WILL cry because i'm overwhelmed with frustration and the idea of not finishing it how i wanted to. i can't finish games with achievements because i HAVE to 100% them lol

24:12 as a dog trainer we are taught “never end training on a loss you win at something small, a victory you know you can achieve. You don’t say stop when the dog gets tired and stops listening even when you know they can acomplish the task… you always finish a task then end on a high note because that leaves a positive impression on you and the dog of training. And dogs have short memory spans so it’s important to end on a high note in training… I have learned people are like this too.
OCD: get *really* stuck in your routines to the point breaking them can be distressingly painful. ADD: struggle to focus on anything at all. ADHD: change focus from task to task until, oops, this one task took 16h and you didn't eat or use the bathroom once during it. Huh. Better go that now. Why do I feel like crap?
aren't add and adhd the same thing except one includes hyperactivity? why are the descriptions so 0 to 100 when the only difference should be that one has like ticks or struggles to stay still yk. I'm by no means an expert on the subject so this could be right but I don't feel like the difference should be so night and day no?
@@TheHomieSogga In decades past they were different diagnosis, nowadays ADD is officially "ADHD, inattentive type." Essentially, both struggle with focusing, but "ADHD, Hyperactive-Impulsive" is the one that hyper-focuses and often has trouble staying on track due to changing focus often, whereas "ADHD, inattentive type" is more prone to being forgetful and not paying attention to details, not because they are focused on something else, but because they can't focus on anything. So, in short, they're more different in presentation than in my little humorous description, but confusingly enough, grouped further together in diagnosis. That's mental health for ya.
I have adhd, mild autism and ocd. It is NOT fun and I spent so long from ages ~12-21 thinking I was broken and horrible and being off and on depressed because I was convinced I was a monster. OCD is the worst because mine is tied into anxiety.

As someone who has OCD, I really appreciate Mark talking about moments like that. I can't count the times I've been unable to tear myself away from a game because I *needed* to complete it. From my personal experience it becomes a thing of "if you don't complete this you're a failure at life and everything you try and do in the future" and nothing can change my mind. It seems silly, but in moments like that OCD can be truly debilitating. I genuinely appreciate Mark taking the time to talk about it, even just to acknowledge that stuff happens, just makes me feel a bit less childish
Same here. As soon as he went on a rant about not being able to stop, it just reminded me of myself; as I have OCD as well! There’s been plenty of times where I physically couldn’t pull myself away from something, whether it’s harmful to myself or not. If I could finish what I was doing then, I wouldn’t have to worry about any “consequences” that I made up in my head. It’s so exhausting to live with OCD and it’s hard for me to manage. I really do like Marks rant ^^
I’m not OCD but I’m autistic. When I play Pokémon I must catch every Pokémon also I must have ALL of them above a certain base level and level them up evenly. Like I have to. I’ve been playing this way since I was a little kid. It takes me over a year to beat a game 😭
@@kaidevaleria2531 growing up i was absolutely devastated when certain pokemon were game-specific. i still am tbh. i can't complete the pokedex in these conditions!! and the levelling thing is so so real. i guess it was a good thing to not rely on the starter the whole time... but man it made the game so much longer than it needed to be lmao

23:22 I completely get this. It's why I have to avoid playing video games late at night, because if I find a part where I NEED to beat it, I can get locked in and be unable to stop until I make something resembling acceptable progress. I've sometimes been up until 2 or 3 am on a week night trying to accomplish a task, and I can't break myself away until I do.

(After he finished the pizza frogged game) He explained it perfectly. About playing video games and frustration. My OCD would kick in too. It’s also hard on parts you need to be patient at when get frustrated and wanna finish that part.
There’s a theory that the experience of spring trap being oswald’s father is a way to emulate the grief of the Afton children. They can’t distinguish their father who is also a murderer. It looks, acts, talks like their father but they can’t the image of the murder from their head. The fear, confusion, nightmares and inability to separate the two result into them not even viewing the person as their father but somebody different. Somebody who took their father’s body, springtrap
23:10 I can very much relate to mark on this part of the video (ADHD & OCD symptoms). It's impossible to explain the exact feeling at the moment but I know exactly why it's not easy to deal with and really gets in the way of even the random stuff that we do. But I'm proud to those that survive and manage through it!
It’s the hyper focusing part of ADHD where your brain isn’t satisfied till you do something a very specific certain way. I related way too hard 😂😭 knew exactly what he meant
Yes! I have OCD and ADHD too. My OCD is really, really bad, but it's more O than C. Still, I was sitting there listening along to him perfectly describe an obsessive compulsion, worried that he didn't know, because OCD is so much worse when you don't know that you have it IMO.
I have ADHD and honestly that exact feeling that mark was explaining is actually why I love games like Celeste, since it kinda nurtures that feeling and helps with learning how to get past it without treating it like it’s a bad thing but rather a learning moment. And that state of just pure happiness when you get past it is so amazing. It does get in the way a lot yes, and at times I seriously despise the feeling, but honestly I’ve found using it to my advantage has helped me get passed some very difficult obstacles and often actually allowed me to get way farther than I thought I thought I could just because the feeling kept nagging at me to keep going.
23:20 I'll say as someone who has autism and adhd, yeah I find that sometimes they can seem pretty similar to OCD. Being very particular about the way something is, having rituals you feel you must do, repetitive behaviors, needing something to be "just right", feeling like you can't move on from something until some invisible condition has been met.... These are all things I've experienced in some capacity while not having OCD. Additionally, one of my former roommates has OCD and for the longest time I thought she was also autistic just because I was getting an ND vibe. She has safe foods and is very particular about cleanliness around the dorm. Since meeting her I am pretty convinced that autism, ADHD, and OCD have a lot more in common than you might think - not to mention how you are statistically more likely to have OCD if you have autism and/or ADHD. Also, I'm super happy that popular creators are getting more comfortable talking about their neurodivergence. I think it's very good to raise awareness of psych disorders and fight the stigma and stereotypes! I for sure would not have gotten diagnosed if I didn't find out about ND things on the internet, especially being an AFAB gifted, quiet kid. Good stuff!
agreed, also i think one of the most frustrating aspects of psych evaluation/testing is that the overlap in symptoms and behaviors of nearly *all* mental disorders and conditions, not to mention the prevalence of comorbidities, make a diagnosis difficult to determine. i have adhd and ocd but my psych of +9 YEARS revealed she’s suspected i could be on the spectrum since she met me too ?? and didn’t tell me until a few months ago ?? i wish it was easier to get definitive answers (preferably when you’re younger and can obtain the accommodations you need)
I completely understand the compulsion to do something exactly how your brain tells you how to do it and if you don't it becomes overwhelming and you feel the biggest sense of relief when you do it. Plagued me as a child to the point of having a meltdown every time. I get you mark, it sucks
The thing around Mrs. Meecham's neck that Mark commented on a bunch of times I feel like is an oddly placed glasses holder. Like the thing you put on the ends of the glasses so if they fall off your face they hang on your neck. Or its like a monacle thing. Strangely illustrated either way.
yeah...i use one of those and i'm ~95% sure it's supposed to wrap around your neck so your glasses just fall onto your chest when taken off of your face for any reason and not hang stupidly in front of your neck to do nothing when your glasses eventually fall.
23:30 the way you explain all of that and mention that adhd and ocd has overlapping symptoms, felt so real and relatable. Like the frustration with your hands not doing the thing you want to thing correctly, knowing you can do better which kinda spirals, is literally me all the time with school assignments TvT
i hate to be "that guy" but that's not what OCD is. what mark is describing is just a regular compulsion and it's not inherent to any specific disorder, anyone can experience it, though it is more common in people with things like ADHD. OCD is an anxiety disorder that causes repetitive behaviours due to persistent intrusive thoughts, for example, checking that you've locked your door 30 times otherwise you feel like someone will break into your house. yes these are compulsions as well, but these severely impact day-to-day life (hence why it's a disorder), it's not just frustration that you aren't doing something "correctly" or that you can do better. not trying to shame you or mark, but OCD is a very misunderstood disorder, and spreading this type of misinformation doesn't help
@@GeneralWarlock39they're not saying everyone with ocd experiences those symptoms lol just saying that they experience similar ones to mark. Doing things like replaying a game segment over and over again can absolutely be attributed to ocd, and seeing as how the OP brought up ADHD and OCD, I would assume they have at least one of them. No sense in shaming someone for relating to a creator they like.
@@GeneralWarlock39 ocd means obsessive compulsive disorder. you can have compulsions without obsessions, like mark or op. compulsions are common in people with adhd, although they usually dont come with the obsessions like they do in ocd. that is why mark said there is an overlap. op is describing what those compulsions feel like, they do not seem to be describing the obsessive aspect. im sure they realize the difference.
@@embertea789 the first part of your comment is basically repeating what i've already said. as for the last part, their comment does not make it sound like they know the difference, especially considering the extremely common misconception that ocd is just needing things to be clean or "correct", which they echoed in their comment.
23:27 I totally understand man. Like 110% that’s adhd in a nut shell. But when it comes to frustration, it’s like you have to overcome that frustration out of pure spite. So that you can win over that frustration.
I looked down to check on my phone and turn it off right as he clicked on the mill only to hear him say that! 😂 That's the first time I really felt like I was being spoken to directly in a youtube video where a person does a bit like that.

Bit of Trivia: In his appearance in Adeptus Podcastus Episode 51, Mark's character design is that of a Commissar. Although, honestly, with how much he likes _SPACE_ maybe he should be a Rogue Trader?
He sounds more like a Dark Mechanicus/Nurglite devotee though, the phrase "I just want to see how much my body can take" feels like something they would say due to their increased durability and resilience.

It's so poorly stigmatized and widely misunderstood by people who don't suffer with it or even know about it that I used to think it was "Obsessive CLEANING Disorder"
As funny as that is, it just shows the continued massive lack in mental health awareness and the struggles people like you and me go through every day.

aren't add and adhd the same thing except one includes hyperactivity? why are the descriptions so 0 to 100 when the only difference should be that one has like ticks or struggles to stay still yk.

As someone who has OCD, I really appreciate Mark talking about moments like that. I can't count the times I've been unable to tear myself away from a game because I *needed* to complete it. I genuinely appreciate Mark taking the time to talk about it, even just to acknowledge that stuff happens, just makes me feel a bit less childish
Same here. As soon as he went on a rant about not being able to stop, it just reminded me of myself; as I have OCD as well! But I'm proud to those that survive and manage through it!

I don't have ADHD, but I do have OCD and this.... It hit wayyyy too hard.
Ok Chica just glitched out looking like she's dancing in front of the door (48:27) after she ate her pizza was just supper funny to me.
As someone who has "just-right" OCD, it's interesting how ADHD, autism, and OCD interlap with each other.
As someone who has both autism and bipolar I felt a nice warm and welcoming feeling

The thing around Mrs. Meecham's neck that Mark commented on a bunch of times I feel like is an oddly placed glasses holder. Like the thing you put on the ends of the glasses so if they fall off your face they hang on your neck. Or its like a monacle thing. Strangely illustrated either way.
yeah...i use one of those and i'm ~95% sure it's supposed to wrap around your neck so your glasses just fall onto your chest when taken off of your face for any reason and not hang stupidly in front of your neck to do nothing when your glasses eventually fall.

i hate to be "that guy" but that's not what OCD is. what mark is describing is just a regular compulsion and it's not inherent to any specific disorder, anyone can experience it, though it is more common in people with things like ADHD.

I looked down to check on my phone and turn it off right as he clicked on the mill only to hear him say that! 😂
That's the first time I really felt like I was being spoken to directly in a youtube video where a person does a bit like that.
I love the little detail at 3:36 when Lixian removes the hose after blowing it up lmao
wanna hear something funny thiss video wasnt edited by lixian
holy sh!t the video wasn't animated by lixian??
@@Crow-f7xYou can see in the description it was edited by “Diceroll”.

Imagine being a brony in 2024 💀
Mark would make an excellent Space Marine, especially given the painful process an initiate has to go through to become one. Not because he's a masochist though, he just wants to see if his body can handle it.
Edit: I was tryna make a joke and instead I attracted all the contrarians, by the throne 😭
Bit of Trivia: In his appearance in Adeptus Podcastus Episode 51, Mark's character design is that of a Commissar.
Although, honestly, with how much he likes _SPACE_ maybe he should be a Rogue Trader?
well he did recognize the weakness of his flesh in the last episode, so not sure about him being a Space Marine
Knowing Mark, he'd most likely join the Guard. Hell, he'd probably be the first one to bayonet charge a squad of CSM.
He sounds more like a Dark Mechanicus/Nurglite devotee though, the phrase "I just want to see how much my body can take" feels like something they would say due to their increased durability and resilience.
