It seems to me that the people in countries such as Japan tend to be more “patient” or tolerant of other peoples shortcomings or system’s shoertcomings in general because of cultural issues.
I remember growing up with close Japanese friends: the way my friend’s mother educated her was to never react abruptly and always have a face similar to that on the mask that was handing from the wall ( emotionless) . Japanese culture values the capacity to self restraint

Professor Sunde , you are very right about the patience in economy is linked to the age and circumstances. Our Social Security Service guides the retirement benefit distribution based on the research and policies of the American society/industries of Life Insurances. Patience is the virtue and influences the risk taking and vice versa with increasing age. Women tend to be more patient due to their higher longevity. You did not mention about the different data for single persons and widows/widowers.

If people became more optimistic about their longevity they would according to this study it would show up in the patience rating. Might patience be a good measure then if people felt they could hav 30:09 e more control over their longevity?

on diet @6min, I suspect the prohibition on chocolate must refer to normal milk chocolate as cocoa has shown benefits in many other studies.
