As a beginner, I appreciate your demonstration of the three methods. I only knew of the first one. I think I will try the second method of going through both threads. Thank you so much ! 😊👍
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all the beginner help!!!! U r a kind and wonderful lady!! It really helps all us self taught crocheters!!! 😘
That was a great demonstration and explanation! I have heard a few people say to go only into the back loop, but never explained why. I did find it abit hard, but with practice, I'm sure it will get easier. Thank you for yet another great video, and for making me understand crochet better! :-)
Ha! I tought myself to crochet and never knew which way was correct. I guess they all are! Thank you for the comparison. I do top and back or chainless depending on the project. I'm just starting a shawl with 315 chain and cannot start with chainless. So i wanted to know if i was doing it right. Thank you so much!! 315, 314, 313...
Thank you so much, I was having such problems I wasted 4 hours and got no results in a project I wanted to start. Thank goodness I came across your videos once I viewed this it took me only ten minutes to start...LOL....I would like to know how to keep the chain from twisting when you join to make a circle. Love your video and can't wait to have a look at what else you have. I have tried the three methods they were so easy....I am going to make up little swatches of the three with explanations for the 3 types to keep for future reference....you are a good teacher. :)
I'm so glad this was helpful. And you could continue crocheting! As for keeping the chain from twisting, when I'm ready to join the circle, I hold the chain in such a way that my thumb runs across the "V"s on the front as I pull the chain through my fingers. In this way, I am making sure all the stitches face the same direction. Kind of hard to explain but I hope that helps.
*Great* to know that we don’t have to be tribal regarding the different foundation crochet techniques! FSC is difficult as I have fine tremors (Rx) and I feel as if I need an additional hand to make it look good. Doing the foundation ch separately means I need use a size hook 2 - 3 times the size of the rest of the project.
I am new to crochet and was wondering what would the pattern look like if you HDC the 1st 2 rows from the chain then did 2 rows back look then 2 rows front loop and repeat? I feel silly asking but wanna make my daughter a blanket and thought it might be unique. I couldn't find any videos on that. This was the most helpful though and thank you
I am enjoying all your videos and finding them helpful and informative. Quick question - if you are doing a shell stitch pattern which method shown above would work best for going into starting chain. Thank you.
Hi Ms.4evabliss , 1. U have a great teaching voice send seen extremely patient. 2. I taught Myself how to crochet about 5 years ago but still get confused about whether to crochet into first stitch or whether to count 1st stitch (I'm going to watch ur how to count row n stitches videos next) 3. I found a crochet tutorial on how to make a slouchy beanie hat that I like. However the person providing the lesson does not always explain why when after slip stitching to the round and going to the next round sometimes you count the chain as the 1st stitch and sometimes you crochet into the same stitch. I'm confused about that wondering if you could watch the video and do a tutorial on it?
You would join with a slip stitch to the first stitch (or beginning chain, depending on how you are using your chains in the project), then use your yarn end to join the base of the stitches when you weave it in.
LOOOOVE going through the back bump! Also because if you are working down one side of the chain, around the end and and across the othre side of the chain it is much easier to to get into that side of the chain.
Could you please go over how to hold your yarn. I never do it right and my fingers on my left hand get very tired. I know I’m not doing it right , snd my tension is terrible . Thank you
I really enjoy this video your instructions where very clear and very helpful! I really learned something today thank you very much!!! Liz x PS just subscribe to your channel...
Just saw the chainless foundation single crochet video which looks a bit more complicated to do but think would be worth the effort to do it chainless since it gives a nicer edge look.
How do you work a chain that is really long ie 130 chains in a baby 3 weight ? I cant get the chain to stay straight , plus the yarn is varigated in a way that it's difficult to see the stitches. HELP I'M A BEGINNER !!!!!
In one of your other videos you showed only going through the top loop for beginners. On here you said the standard way is go through both parts of the V. So my question is am I really doing it wrong if I'm only going through the top loop? I'm on row 3😕🙁 Also would you mind doing a video showing how to go to the next row starting at say row 2 or 3? I feel like I'm doing it wrong. Thanks
The foundation chain is worked differently than the following rows. This video shows you those options. Check out my videos on the single crochet and double crochet stitches to see how to do the other rows. You’re on the right track!
None of these, as the chain is already made. I suggest using the next hook size up to make the chain if it’s too tight. Or concentrate on intentionally making the chains a little bigger, but this takes practice to get the right feel so changing hook size of often easier.

Wow! So helpful to see all three options compared side by side. Thank you!
I love all your videos, easy to follow.
Thanks for taking the time to showing
us how to make crochet not so hard.

Wonderful! It does take practice and little more time, but I think the end result is worth it. Thanks for leaving a comment! :)
Thank you for explaining in such details and demonstrating with the results

Thank you! I did not understand the different uses of the foundation chain. I have been using the back bump and now I understand the difference.

My default is working into the backbone. I like the final look best.
Thanks for sharing.
Really helpful video!

Thank u Mam for the yarn over method watching the video helped me alot.
Love you tutorial I was wondering how you would join a foundation chain in a ring.
You would join with a slip stitch to the first stitch (or beginning chain, depending on how you are using your chains in the project), then use your yarn end to join the base of the stitches when you weave it in.
Thank you very well explained

When is a standing stitch called for? And can you demo one? Unless it's simply adding new yarn unknotted. Just looped.
The chainless one looks better than the other 3 chain foundation ones.
Just saw the chainless foundation single crochet video which looks a bit more complicated to do but think would be worth the effort to do it chainless since it gives a nicer edge look.
Thank you.☺♥️

Back loop.... unless a pattern specifies a specific loop. I love your nail polish color... what is the name of the color you're wearing?
+Christy Gabany I'm with you...back loop. Thanks! I'm wearing Jamberry's nail lacquer in Royal (NC153).

@@ForeverBlissCrochetThank You. I've watched you step 4 video over & over again probably about 7 times while doing mine step by step & finally got it.
What is your favorite way to work into the foundation chain?
Forever Bliss Crochet It's always the back loop for me. I'm hopeless at the foundation chain! lol
Which one would stop me from making the foundation chain too tight? Or would either help?
None of these, as the chain is already made. I suggest using the next hook size up to make the chain if it’s too tight. Or concentrate on intentionally making the chains a little bigger, but this takes practice to get the right feel so changing hook size of often easier.
