Sounds like they need some corals from my tank as they have all been stress-trained thoroughly! 😂 Great video and awesome things that they are doing over there!
@@Reefscom I have a purple tort, green acro, toadstool and a scoly that have survived 3 tank crashes in 12 years. 90+ degrees for 3 days when a light timer stuck on (150w HQI no chiller, out of town). second time faulty sensor/s filled my tank with rodi from the ato salinity at about half for a day and recently a faulty doser added a whole bottle of NOPOX in 36 hours to my tank. all the rest over the years I have lost at some point but there are a few colonies (and some fish) that have stories to tell for sure
Great video and very informative! I am a born and raised Floridian and have been a commercial fisherman for over 30 years (I am 43 years old now) and I also have had successful reef tanks for at least 15 years ! I have seen a lot of changes in our coastal bottoms, due to water pollution! They need to start focusing more on WATER QUALITY and stop all of the run off and pesticides that have been used for farming for so long! Without good water quality there great program is going to be in vain, this is my opinion. No talks are ever about water quality, it’s always on how to restore. There really needs to be more focus on WATER QUALITY and then and only then will these great restoration projects will be successful! I know that I or we as commercial fisherman are frowned upon, but I can tell you that I have a deep devotion for that ocean because it has always taken care of us and so I have always taken care of it! Lots more effort has to be put on WATER QUALITY and I really hope that with all of the enfaces on global warming issues, that one day the WATER QUALITY issue will also be resolved!!!!! Thank you for the great video and please keep them coming and thanks to everyone involved for caring about our Oceans health... Sincerely Marco Herrera
Absolutely Marco. Alot of things have been going downwards due to greed and ignorance of humans over the years. I tell this to everyone that I possibly can. Please be sure to vote for people that can enforce / have impact on making the quality of the water better so that we can preserve what we can and hopefully make things better for the future generations.
Goes to show there is a lot more work that needs to be done to save our reefs. Glad to see they are all over it and trying to make the process efficient and effective long term.
Once again yet another great and informative vlog. I wish we all had friends like you Richard who were bringing knowledge to the hobbyist :D Thanks, Dr. Winter.
Very good one and it is going to help for our restoration work in Sri Lanka as Sri Lankan ocean is very hot and get too much sun light also more polluted
This is very interesting as a reef hobbyist would be interesting if we could introduce the algae into our home aquarium to also improve success rates with species such as acropora. Is this something that might be available in some form down the line?
@@ashgriffiths3596 that's still at the bleeding edge experimental stage at the moment and there are no guarantee that corals will readily accept that as new zoozanthelle.
Hah, you should invite hobbyists to donate fragments to you! Also, why not try World Wide Corals in Orlando? Some of the hardiest coral are the ones in hobby tanks.
Not for this project as the univeristy of miami and frost museum is ONLY working with endangered Caribbean sps at the moment but for different awuaculture project, wwc and many different vendors pitched in to help seed the aquaculture tank in the museum.
You know there is group doing this on a genetic level they are breeding the strongest ones able to survive at higher temps. Then replanting them in the ocean. And they're having good success.
I found it, maybe some of these study's can help with your project! I really want to help with the oceans issues! ua-cam.com/video/hOsZOpp6x4c/v-deo.html

Lol i have tons to give as well hahaha. Making alpha corals here hahaha.
That made me laugh. I'll toss in a dozen from my tank. Tee hee hee
I got some that could survive 24 hour sunlight in vodka and not die.

Very cool. Thankful for people like this working hard for our reefs.
Fascinating!

Yup. Efficient and effective. Funny that you mention what i exactly told the scientists ha! :)
When it comes to knowing how corals function......Dr Riyah has to be one of the smartest person I've ever heard.. Amazing
Pretty awesome! thanks for sharing! Makes me happy to see hope for the future of our reefs
Makes me happy to see you here Dev. ;)

Thanks for watching B. :) Imagine me there, all giddy lol
Great news
Right?
Amazing work! Very good to hear there are serious studies to avoid many coral extinction events...
Thank you very much! Stay tuned as i will focus more into conservation things as well as going in deeper aquaculture side of our hobby.
Great fun job.
Awesome and encouraging research guys! Thanks for taking on the bleaching of the reefs. 👍🏾👍🏾

In your frag system I don't see any fish,,, there is any fish in frag system ? do you feed sps corals with something or just light??
Yes, they are all spot/target fed same amount of food in a separate container/buckets.
@@Reefscom thank you but , there is any fish in frag system ?? As I can't see in video some fish?
