This mans facial get-up is banging.. People like this are the only hope for keeping our beautiful reefs alive into the future. Would love to shake your hand sir, well done.. inspiring
What I don't like is that he's claiming that he invented "microfragmenting". Our coral ornamental trade is based on fragging for multiple decades before Dr. Vaughn. I'm grateful for the work that he's doing but claiming to come up with something that he didn't isn't very admirable thing to do for a scientist of his caliber.
Coral reefs are really a community of multiple coral species serving different roles. One provides for a strong base while others help in dealing with undersea currents. In order to successfully restore the reefs, we have lost we have to find combinations of fast-growing corals that serve multiple roles in a reef. Any single kind of coral can create a habitat but it's bad for bio-diversity. We need coral banks.
Amazing inspirational, *Dr Vaughan a hero by any measure* ...just in the nick of time too to save coral (now let's do the same for rest of planet). He can retire a happy man his life's work had such great fruit to carry on centuries if not millennia. *Wondering if the whole microfragmenting can be done efficiently with mini machines* that walk across existing coral? In a tank or on sea bed...how nice if we could plant automous gardeners to monitor and manage change:-) the secret of success is not just having the idea but in it's exploitation in a repeatable efficient process
Coral fusion could be bad for the colony. Si hubiera una enfermedad, toda la colonia es afectada, pero si provienen de diferente parentesco la restauración es más resiliente
I hope he wins the Nobel Peace Prize for this.
I love you dr.David Vaughan. Incredible for this world
We need more Environmental Champions like Dr Vaughan ...Together we rebuild our reefs for our next generation
