I think the game is more for people who are interested in playing the game, but don't have a console or big PC. China is huge with mobile gaming, so it is primarily for them, though everyone else will get it. If the game does not allow us to use our existing character, it's a huge no for me, because I'm just not interested in playing the game all over again lol. But if it did allow us, then I'd use it to gather or do some crafting while on break or traveling.
I personally would have wanted a remastered 1.0 storyline version of this but I'm in the minority. But it is kinda weird they did use the 1.0 starter scene with Thancred and a younger F'lhaminn dancer in this teaser trailer?
I could see that being part of the plan tbh. We don’t have any confirmation atm, but I’m just cautiously optimistic at this point. Especially after learning there’s no gacha.
Yeah that’s what I’m saying!! The Thancred scene alone got me at least hyped for a new 1.0 experience, but if this is just ARR onwards again then I’m not super interested 😕
Ngl itd be crazy if you could get the legacy tattoo from the mobile version. If it uses the og cinematic that connects it to the original dimension from 1.0 which is different from the one we are in now. In universe if you played 1.0 your character was teleported to the current world by Louisoix and the tattoo you get is remnants of his magic.

These parts of the world rely largely on mobile. As long as it doesn't impinge on FF14 the base game, and if it keeps SE from trying to insert gross monetization into the base game, I don't care if a mobile version is getting made. In fact, I look forward to playing it with someone who will now be able to enjoy the story with me. :)
Each job's kit will probably be in line with what we have in the PVP kit on the PC/Console client. Only monetization possibility will be the same we have in our online store, if there is no P2W or gacha. Overall I'm just glad there is no crossplay with the original client and it will be a community of it's own. However, I hope this does not ever, in any way, shift priorities from their main game to this.
I don't see how it would. Not only is a separate studio handling it but it will get all its content from the main game. It's going to be playing catch up for years.

Thanks for educating your fellow westerners. Phone games is here to stay whether you like it or not because in other countries it is easier/cheaper/time efficient to get a phone than a 5k PC with 4090. Even if they did some sort of a gatcha systems, thinking back to my DFFOO days, that game was honestly probably the cheapest gatcha I've ever played. Sure, cosmetics were $$$, but building your roster of actual gameplay affecting characters was really not expensive at all. Pretty sure I just did the monthly like gem bundle or whatever for 5 or 10 a month and that's it, and I never had a character I wanted come out that I couldn't get.

I'm guessing there will be content-gating based on gear level and gear will be upgraded through various materials dropped by dungeons/bosses/whatever. An energy system will cap your progress daily and you may get an hour of progression a day without paying. Whatever gate-keeping energy system will be able to be bypassed by throwing money at the screen one way or another. Maybe by selling the gear upgrade materials directly and/or through a battlepass. Encounters themselves and their rewards might be monetized and sold individually like Diablo Immortal. This doesn't take into account the possibility they might do that with exp/levels as well. Who knows really, but it is mobile and it will be predatory one way or another.

Personally really interested in this - as someone who has to pinch their pennies more and more these days, a free to play option that allows me to still experience the game (and on the go, no less) is very much welcome, particularly if they've found a way to sidestep gacha features. Plus, here's to hoping and coping that if FFXIV mobile does well enough, they MIGHT return to the idea of FFXI mobile, since FFXI would honestly have benefited far more from this.
Im here for it. Im absolutely here for it. Im looking forward to it. Is it gonna be mobile? Yes. Are there concerns about gacha and micro transactions? Of course. But do I trust yoshi P? Absolutely. That man has saved, innovated and has basically been the father, leader and direct voice of 14. It may not be the same as on pc, but i would love to be able to have the experience in a mobile form factor. So im happy for this announcement but still vigilant about what the other forces may make him and the team do.
I would be cool if they went for a " we are actually on another shard that is very similar to the source but different events take place after the calamity. that would make me actually play it if it was different story but tied to the main games story and eventually comes to a head
Pretty sure the only way I’d play this is if it contains new voice acting for ARR. That alone would be worth the price of admission. I can’t tell if that was Minfilia’s post or pre ARR voice in the trailer.
I’m not sure if I want this version of the game to cover future expansions or to diverge from post ARR, I think the latter could be pretty cool running parallel to the main game and seeing how different things get
its difficult to imagine how to make a PC/console MMO into mobile format. But here we are, witnessing FF14 going mobile lol. I hope they know what they are doing on this one.
I would imagine it’s similar to how Ever Crisis plays to FF7 Remake. We’ll almost certainly not have even a fraction of the number of buttons as FFXIV Prime.
I can see its appeal for mobile players in parts of the world that have more support for those games. But for me who has been playing since Heavensward, I really dont see myself playing this on my phone. Especially if its basically the same story over again. I would have really taken an interest if they had a different story set in the same world. Like they are literally sitting on the dystopian timeline where certain events happen that I wont elaborate on due to spoilers. But imagine being an adventurer in this hostile timeline helping others with ideals that pretty much fly in the face of the whole "every man for himself" way of thinking?
If it is Free to Play then the cost of development will be covered as all f2p mobile games are. By the whale spenders. This is how these games work. They literally cannot be sustainable from a cost perspective otherwise. So even if it's not "Gacha" it must have a revenue stream that encourages some users to spend a lot of money. No F2P works without this.
It also brings the question if I can play this on a Tablet as well... Which I assume that it will but I can imagine playing this more on a Tablet than a Phone and if so, Makes me consider more to get a Ipad with the new M4 chip in em, Something to play and Something to do art on.
The game design of an MMORPG is largely a consequence of monetization. FFXIV is designed around the subscription model (although lately the system has some cracks, and the patches practically always arrive later and are smaller and more divided, where it almost doesn't seem like you're paying a subscription). However, this mobile game will practically be a different game. To change the business model, you also have to change the design
EDIT: im leaving this comment here since i still feel they partially apply, but i did type this before getting to the mention of controls and honestly unless they made the game only compatible with controller or mouse and keyboard i cant see of a way that they could make the current controls work on screen, so with that in mind i feel less bothered by the mobile version but still think they shouldve done something else with it (maybe add the ARR in a condensed update like KH union cross did with the story from KH X) as much as i will be checking it out when it comes out i feel like they kinda wasted a chance to do something really amazing or really original. if you are anyone who has a pc or console (non switch) then there is really no reason to play this since the free trial of ff14 surpasses most of the content included in mobile (as far as we know). If they wanted to open up the doors for mobile users to play ff14 they really shouldve just bit the bullet and make a low spec copy of the console version. I know that doing it that way the game probably wouldnt be as pretty (thinking fortnite mobile as a comparison) but then there wouldnt have to be a worry about playerbase and lack of content not to mention it probably would be easy to port to switch. on the other hand they couldve done something more orignal or seperate from FF14 something close enough gameplay wise old timers wouldnt be alienated but not so close to the original that it basically loses all reason to play it if you are a veteran or if you are currently playing FF14. the only people i can think of that might enjoy it even after playing FF14 is the dumbasses like me who can afford ff14 rn and need something to scratch the itch.
Might give my friends a try who don't want to play the normal retail version. The fights will be dumb down but least will see wtf I talk about my old days in 14. Curious what Summoner be like if it's even in it from seeing the Lala's. Larry will be Happy I assume if we got our Dot Mage back in this version lol. But i'm more concern on yes Monetization, How the combat will work (I'm thinking prolly Monster Hunter Now Movement. Dunno) and worse of all. Is my Relic of a Phone gonna Burst into Flames moment I hit the title Screen. I feel the Specs on this is going to hit High End Phones to keep up the process and battery life.
SE has already EoL so many of their FF mobile games (Record Keeper, Opera Omnia, Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Mobius) Most of those had gacha so how would they even make money on this to keep it running?
Okay having no Gacha takes care of one of my big two concerns. The other is combat gameplay. I can't really imagine anything close to FFXIV working on a touch screen only. This is going to be a very hard sell for me, but I'll keep an open mind until we get a more direct look at how control and combat will work.
I wonder how popular it'll be globally. Like, will people pick it up as a side game? Switch over completely? Even if I were interested, I can't see myself playing 2 different versions of XIV.
What about specs? Does it really run like teaser on a normal phone? Or u need like a rog phone? Another thing its the space. How many Gb will it be? Like 30Gb? I think this is the basic of all. Like FF7EC, not all phones run the game and FF14 will push much more than Ever Crises
I'm more confused in general as to who this is for. Cause it's not for existing players, because why would we want to go back and redo all of the story, on mobile of all platforms? So it must be for new players, but then why would they want to play it on mobile? Especially when the type of players who seek out mobile stuff like this, will ultimately stick around for gacha mechanincs, which we are now told this won't have. I give it a year or two of life, before Squenix announces it didn't meet revenue projections, and pulls the plug on the servers
Why play mobile? Because there are millions of people in other countries like China who only play on mobile and do not own and also cannot afford PCs or consoles.
@andrewichigo Toram Online is a 9 years MMO on phone right now. Although it has awful graphics but still is the top quality/favorite MMO of millions people. See? there is a market for it. FF14 could be a big hit in this market if they manage it right.
I don't think there is much pull for PC players to the mobile version. These are vastly different markets because of the gameplay designs (mobile grinds, energy systems, dollar-to-win, fomo, etc). I know what f2p mobile gaming is like without gacha and it's still very lackluster.
my bet their main monetization are either through skins (glamour), bazillion currencies for upgrades and auto-battle system. how else can a free game with no gacha make money? just look at Ragnarok Origin
My only interaction with this game will be to get rewards from the the base game. As long as that is not paywalled I don't really care about it's existence.
Why can't I connect to my PC WoL? I'm guessing gameplay wise there's no longer a need to move around in battle. It's gonna be skill button mashing. It should have been a companion game that can standalone. Like a tactics game based FFXIV. Battle at Cartaneu prologue to orient us with the controls and gameplay, then jump in to the background battles that happen alongside Warrior of Light's adventure, first recruitables are gonna be sprout adventurers, then progressing to Heavensward, tier 2 jobs, dragoons, summoners etc, moving to stormblood, bigger battles because it's war with the imperials. And I'd be alright with the Gacha if we get the strategy game, getting an Aymeric, getting a Hien for the Stormblood wars. Or Rauhbahn with immortal flames recruits. man. I'd subscribe to that battle pass everyday if we get a tactics game like that. even if they went with sprites for graphics.
Curious about the systems and differences though currently not likely to play it, but gotta say…the gacha jokes are still funny. Can’t blame people when there’s been some large gacha games released across platforms includjngnouknes
For those moaning and complaining about the mobile version…you do know the other half of the planet actually really loves mobile gaming right? Like it’s a massive market over there lmao
I think this is how everyone who already plays 14. It looks visually great considering its mobile. It could be kinda cool. But who asked for this? Who wants this? Considering its an mmo its likely not something i would want to play on the go.. like what if im on a train, decide to queue up for a dungeon and we dont finish before my stop, so now i have to quit and ditch because well im on the go.. i know mmos have been on mobile in the past but it always just seems so weird.
The reliability of this information coming from paid sponsorships is so minimal. I'm goign to wait for actual news from this and not paid sponsor spots, but this does not look good at all. It looks to be a china-first censored version of the ARR story made by a company notorious for generative AI usage, shoveled out into the market. It doesn't leave me hopeful at all even with segments like this saying "see look it's not gacha", it's still a f2p chinese mobile game it's not going to be very consumer friendly in the slightest.
I mean, it's a mmo...it's already in the far deep end of grindy time wasting mechanics. If they somehow do introduce gacha like system. that would be something lol.
all i can say is. no. just.. no.. he may say this now but mobile companies always find a way to fuck the players over. i dont see this lasting. i was hoping for a mobile way to play it on mobile. dont wanna start over xD. so ill stick to the pc/console its a neat idea tho
A battle-pass would be just as bad as a Gacha mechanic to me, if not worse. Battle-passes are the worst, because 99/100 times everything in those damn battle-passes are gone forever, never to see the light of day ever again. It is some heavy FOMO BS that should have died with the dinosaurs millions of years ago.
Lightspeed? The Tencent company? My brother, you played XIV. Were you sleepwalking when Riol told you that you need to pay attention to where your money is coming from?
There is almost no ethical spending nowadays. Tencent has a hand in a lot of things people do/play, and almost anything/everything we own has moral lines that are crossed to make them. Not going to act like this is some big deal lol
As long as the mobile version stays 100% separate from FF14, I couldn't care less about it.
I think the game is more for people who are interested in playing the game, but don't have a console or big PC. its difficult to imagine how to make a PC/console MMO into mobile format. But here we are, witnessing FF14 going mobile lol. I hope they know what they are doing on this one.
I would imagine it’s similar to how Ever Crisis plays to FF7 Remake. We’ll almost certainly not have even a fraction of the number of buttons as FFXIV Prime.
Minfilia's VA sounds different in the trailer. Im guessing we will getting re recording for ARR msq
God I hope so 😭
I can see its appeal for mobile players in parts of the world that have more support for those games.
I think its Azure Dragoon cameo in fight with Titan. Thats why he use Stardiver. But who knows...
Kinda interested in it, but worried that it won't be available in many countries cuz region lock. In SE's eyes, SEA region sometimes doesn't exist.
Worry not, the one who develops and publishes is Lightspeed/Tencent for sure. Ofcourse they won't leave SEA out.
Thanks for the interview!
I looking forward to seeing how the combat works.
Tablet is the big reason I want mobile controller support, just for the bigger screen lol
That is not what i meant when i was dreaming about Vanilla FFXIV...
EDIT: im leaving this comment here since i still feel they partially apply, but i did type this before getting to the mention of controls and honestly unless they made the game only compatible with controller or mouse and keyboard i cant see of a way that they could make the current controls work on screen, so with that in mind i feel less bothered by the mobile version but still think they shouldve done something else with it (maybe add the ARR in a condensed update like KH union cross did with the story from KH X)
as much as i will be checking it out when it comes out i feel like they kinda wasted a chance to do something really amazing or really original. if you are anyone who has a pc or console (non switch) then there is really no reason to play this since the free trial of ff14 surpasses most of the content included in mobile (as far as we know).
I'm really curious if we are getting 8 man Prae or the new 4 person version
100% the 4-man version. 8-man Prae was always a hot mess and mobile gaming is not ideal for really long cutscenes in the middle of a dungeon.
I would also assume the 4 man version. I assume they'd opt into 4 people wherever possible
We got a mobile version of the game before getting more beard options.
SE has already EoL so many of their FF mobile games (Record Keeper, Opera Omnia, Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Mobius) Most of those had gacha so how would they even make money on this to keep it running?
finally, ffxiv oldschool
I am looking forward to trying ff14 mobile 😊
Hold up, that's not Minfilia's original VA. Is ARR getting new voiceovers?
Okay having no Gacha takes care of one of my big two concerns. The other is combat gameplay. I can't really imagine anything close to FFXIV working on a touch screen only. This is going to be a very hard sell for me, but I'll keep an open mind until we get a more direct look at how control and combat will work.
I wonder how popular it'll be globally. Like, will people pick it up as a side game? Switch over completely? Even if I were interested, I can't see myself playing 2 different versions of XIV.
I want it to be separate but, I wouldn't mind if I could unlock some cool cosmetics for base xiv for playing.
@FF-tp7qs I know that, but I don't see how they will opt to play FFXIV over any of the hundreds of gacha games they already abuse
@andrewichigo there's plenty of non gacha games to play as well
@andrewichigo Toram Online is a 9 years MMO on phone right now. Although it has awful graphics but still is the top quality/favorite MMO of millions people. See? there is a market for it. FF14 could be a big hit in this market if they manage it right.
I agree about the controller. I imagine This would be great game to play in bed with a Backbone if it allows it
I don't think there is much pull for PC players to the mobile version. These are vastly different markets because of the gameplay designs (mobile grinds, energy systems, dollar-to-win, fomo, etc). I know what f2p mobile gaming is like without gacha and it's still very lackluster.
if they add controller support than this mobile version will be really good. I hate having to using digital joysticks
my bet their main monetization are either through skins (glamour), bazillion currencies for upgrades and auto-battle system. how else can a free game with no gacha make money? just look at Ragnarok Origin
Renda Rae in the red dress....rawr! :)
Curious about the systems and differences though currently not likely to play it, but gotta say…the gacha jokes are still funny. Can’t blame people when there’s been some large gacha games released across platforms includjngnouknes
Could care less if there's no gatcha. As long as Tencent hand is all over this it's a HARD skip for me.
item shop baroness:"FINALLY UNLIMITED POWER"
Only way I’d even touch it is if they give like… codes for glamor or mounts in the main game, otherwise y bother?
Imagine a better running ARR on mobile, without the PC/console's spaghetti code
I dont see how pvp rotations would work either. Even the most complex phone games limit themselves to 4 or 5 buttons total.
1 PVP style combo action, 2 offensive actions that transform into follow up actions, 2 support actions that may/may not transform
You know what this is gonna play like? Black Desert Online mobile. Dont kid yourselves that it will be different
It'll be interesting to have the ARR story retold in a pocket format with the new* (post 2.0) voice actors doing the lines.
Then maybe they can bring the voice acting to the main game on pc.
@@katherinemerkel3505 I'd assume they would in a later update... I feel like it's some sort of contracting issue or something at this point.
@@NotTheWheel Sigh….😔
@@katherinemerkel3505 B-but it'll happen surely enough! (probably) 😅💙
For those moaning and complaining about the mobile version…you do know the other half of the planet actually really loves mobile gaming right? Like it’s a massive market over there lmao
Yes exactly it's the reason china hasn't had a AAA game till wu Kong mobile was making them more than enough
ah ffs...DSR reprog again...
MobileCoB
This video is quite the nothingburger, but Happy that Mr Haps got paid for it, good for you 😺♥
I'm willing to keep an eye on this. Probably won't care, but eh.
Might be good, but honestly I am more looking forward to the next FF MMO.
Can mobile games without gacha be financially successful?
Well, now we know where our sub money went....
So ... what happens if you can't kevel up all jobs on one character... without paying for each class.
Then okay the original game ?
8:27 hi Ivy
The reliability of this information coming from paid sponsorships is so minimal. I'm goign to wait for actual news from this and not paid sponsor spots, but this does not look good at all. It looks to be a china-first censored version of the ARR story made by a company notorious for generative AI usage, shoveled out into the market. It doesn't leave me hopeful at all even with segments like this saying "see look it's not gacha", it's still a f2p chinese mobile game it's not going to be very consumer friendly in the slightest.
I wonder if this is why they’re getting us used to flipping buttons…
I mean, it's a mmo...it's already in the far deep end of grindy time wasting mechanics. If they somehow do introduce gacha like system. that would be something lol.
Wake me up when they make the ffxiv dating Sim
hmmm X to doubt
I don't think I'd be interested in replaying the game from the start again lol.
itll be funny if they port this version to pc and we have 2 different ff14s on pc
I've seen some peeps asking for a PC client already 😅
I kind of wish they would make a pc version of mobile so I don't have to drain my phone batteries cuz pokemon tcg pocket had been killing my batterie.
all i can say is. no. just.. no.. he may say this now but mobile companies always find a way to fuck the players over.
i dont see this lasting. i was hoping for a mobile way to play it on mobile. dont wanna start over xD. so ill stick to the pc/console its a neat idea tho
So did they outsource a studio to rebuild the entire game in a different engine?
yes
Correct, Lightspeed actually approached them and asked if they could license the IP
Small indie company are struggling for cash.
They barely scraped down chump change to release DT...
I wish we could have gotten this. But as FF11 Mobile: A Realm Reborn. Lol
Will there even be a 2.5 GCD? lol
Free players will not get any tomes and have less stamina/raid entry keys.
It begins. The 1 button combos. All the downgrades have come to this.
Play ff14 mobile on pc "eventually" XD
No gatcha is the best game for me because every gatcha always Got ruined by whales player
